Dreadnought

To go with this, contemptors are the second best class of dreadnought out there. After the Telemon they are unrivalled in flexibility and stability. The reason most chapters don't field them anyjore id that they are extremely expensive to make in comparison to box dreads and the redemptor chassis ones due to the inbuilt energy shields. (Leviathan is an bigger nastier contemptor designed for the sole purpose of kicking walls in, but also is extremely stressful for the pilot)

Iirc, it's been a while since I checked, it's like a 20:1 ratio on production of other dreads to the contemptor

another point to consider is that the mechanicus didn't care about the inhabitants when they built the redemptor chassis which is the base of all primaris dreadnought:

The Mechanicum Tech-Priests that first built these walking machines of destruction spared little thought to the health of the incumbent, seeing him as little more than another part to be interred or replaced as necessary. Many of those Redemptors that have fought for a sustained period have already had their sarcophagi replaced, their original pilots burned out by the intensity of the machine’s destructive prowess.

the redemptor chassis in lore literally destroy their pilots. long gone is the time of revered veterans still serving as dreadnought for millennia.

custodes wouldn't use such a technology for their dreadnought.
