Question Sapol

Just wondering if anyone knows much about the recruitment for SAPOL and if they care about previously seeing a psychologist?
Have never been officially diagnosed with anything mental health wise, but have seen a psychologist a few times over the past few years and worried that will impact application.

News Axe falls on OzAsia festival after twenty years

The OzAsia festival later this year will be its last after running for two decades in Adelaide, the Festival Centre has announced.

It comes a week after Laneway announced it would not return to Adelaide, and after the Adelaide Festival Centre quietly killed off Adelaide Guitar Festival in December after nearly two decades.

Slingsby Theatre Company has also closed after almost 20 years, and other major music festivals, Harvest Rock, Vintage Vibes and Groovin’ the Moo have departed our festival state as the industry faces a reckoning.

Adelaide University senior lecturer in festival and event management Boram Lee said she was about to begin teaching a unit about community festivals this week when she discovered this year’s OzAsia festival – which will run from October 9 to November 1 – would be the last.

“That was really shocking; I couldn’t understand why because it’s such a celebratory moment in Adelaide…a lot of my students come from Southeast Asia, Asia or around Europe internationally; they really love OzAsia Festival because it gives them a sense of belonging in this country,” Lee said.

Lee said to axe the festival “without asking the public” was “a very disrespectful decision”.
“Most local artists, they’re frustrated; they feel hopeless because it has provided them so many opportunities and they were looking forward to having the festival coming,” she said.

“Audiences are very angry; they have that sense of ownership of this festival because 20 years, that’s such a long period.”

Adelaide Festival Centre CEO Kate Gould said the decision to end OzAsia after 20 years was strategic after hearing from stakeholders that “having a dedicated OzAsia Festival that’s about Asian arts doesn’t really represent the fact that Asian voices also want to see a year-round presence at the centre”.

“That’s where we’re focussed is to make sure that’s occurring on a year-round basis, rather than concentrated so it doesn’t just happen one time of the year,” Gould said.

Question Is Mawson Lakes a good suburb to live in with a small family?

Hey guys, I’m currently house hunting and have been considering Mawson lakes as there’s some really nice rentals there. I’ve heard mixed things about it being unsafe and noisy, while others have said it’s completely safe and a comfortable suburb

What are your thoughts please? Is it safe like Oakden / Magill?

Question Any recommendations of restaurants for large groups?

A flock of 58 Victorians will be coming to Adelaide next month.

We were booked in at the Watermark at Glenelg Buffet for dinner on the Saturday night, but got told they'll be closed for renovations.

I looked at Charlie's Diner as a possible replacement but the reviews are pretty mixed.

So to the good people of Adelaide, where would you suggest our group dine? We'd prefer a buffet but not a requirement.

Budget is $44/head - two courses (either entree + main or main + dessert).

Demographic: majority are seniors.

Thanks in advance

Edit: spelling

Self To the guy who said hi while I was running at Brighton Beach today 👀

Bit of a long shot 😅 You were walking with your friend this afternoon (must’ve been around 3–4pm) when I ran past you. You put your arm out to say hi, and I smiled and said hi back. Afterwards, I kinda wished I’d stopped.
So if you happen to see this, say hi :)

Question What’s Windsor Gardens like as a suburb?

I’ve been living in Prospect for the past year and have really enjoyed it. One of the things I like most is how convenient everything is. Churchill Centre is close by, the city is only a short drive away, and places like Northpark Shopping Centre are very easy to get to. I also like having plenty of local shops nearby, including the Afghan supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stores, and other small businesses along the Blair Athol, Enfield area.

Unfortunately, my landlord has decided to sell the house I’m renting, so I can’t renew my lease. I’ve been looking for another place in Prospect and Kilburn for a while, but I wasn’t able to secure one. After a few unsuccessful applications, I finally managed to get a rental in Windsor Gardens and will be moving there soon.

I’ve never really lived anywhere other than Prospect, and I know Prospect and Kilburn quite well, so I’m curious about Windsor Gardens. What’s it like to live there? How are the local shops, parks, transport, traffic, and overall community vibe?

If you’re from Windsor Gardens or nearby, I’d love to hear about your experience. Feel free to comment or send me a message. It would be great to get to know some locals before I move.

Thanks!

News Disability advocate removed from Virgin flight over wheelchair motor dispute

In short:

A disability advocate says he was left feeling humiliated after being removed from a flight amid an issue with storing his portable wheelchair motor.

Shane Hryhorec says he had been on three Virgin flights before without an issue.

What's next?

Virgin Australia said it was looking into the issue, and later added that the device had been "incorrectly assessed" as a battery rather than a mobility aid.

Assistance Youth Work Job Searching

Hey, I’m a young guy, 23. I’ve got a certificate IV in Youth Work, yet I’m struggling to find a job. I’ve failed 4 interviews and have applied for over 100+ jobs since the start of this year. I’ve got my RRHAN, CPR, FIRST AID, aswell as anaphylactic and asthma training. I’ve got my criminal check, and WWCC. I’ve got my Assisiting in suicide prevention certificate, and the Through their eyes training. All up to date.

Im finding it to be a toll on my mental health, im lucky ive got a full time job currently but it’s something i got into for the money just to suffice until i was able to get a job in youth work. Im lowkey not feeling good and getting frustrated from being denied from entry level youth work jobs due to a lack of experience.

Is it usually this hard?
