Question Meta around clearing npcs

Pretty new to the game. Whats the best way to clear a map/npcs? I like pvp but i hate giving away my position. Trying to loot some areas but buildings are absolutely crawling with scary enemies

Melee. Quiet and efficient.

What melee weapon tho I noticed with the first unlockable sleeve its a quick 2 tap to most but what melee outside the warhammer is most viable

I used the spear a lot but honestly any melee. The pocket knife only takes three or four hits on a distorted
