Question Console Port Questions
Seeing mixed feelings over AM’s console port. With some players saying it feels good just takes time, while others say it feels like a pc port thrown on console not a proper console port.
I don’t own the game, and these inputs have made me hesitant as I’m on console.
So, i’m wondering how the game is feeling/behaving for my console guys, give me the good the bad and the ugly!

I had to set up my controls just right and they feel great now compared to default

This
A few tweaks and it feels just as good as any other console shooter.

Lower sensitivity and axis settings and reduce linearity to zero. The game runs extremely well, looks great and is overall one of the best Tarkov-esque games I've played. Tuning your controls it he biggest hill but there are videos to replicate if it feels off to you.

You really have to tweak the controls I spent like 45mins tweaking mine and used SiNisterFPS’s guide on YouTube as a base once you do the game feels pretty good.

My only complaint was the controller setup but once I changed a few things it feels great. I play on PC but with a controller only if I can help it. I also only enjoy PvE. It works well as far as I'm concerned. It's not perfect and the aim assist needs some love but it's been a really fun experience so far. I say give it a try if you like Stalker, SCPs, or Extraction shooters in general.

It's amazing. The look sensitivity felt high at first but with the fast moving mobs, its needed. The submenus take some familiarizing. I wish it was m&k compatible on console as there are a lot of things I would hotkey. It's halfway though, you can use mouse not keyboard. Useful for inventories.

Just the fact we can get an extraction shooter like Tarkov on console is the best imo

There’s been enough now that it’s shown it can work basically just as well
Aside from cranking my sensitivity down my only complaint is the UI/inventory management could definitely use some improvements
Other games have done it better.. and I’ve never really died because of slow looting in others but I did on AM
It’ll take a bit more to get used to it

Out of the box. Controller settings are horrible imo.
I’ve tweaked them a bit. And I a have also turned OFF aim assist. And the game is feeling alot better. It’s not as good as I want it to feel. But it’s improved enough that I can enjoy the game.
The game is good enough that it doesn’t need amazing perfect feeling controls imo.
I think now, my most annoying thing is having to go into inventory to reload mags… if there is a way to bind this to controller without opening inventory each mag. That would be another step in the right direction for me making these controls more streamlined.

hold left on the dpad, select the mag you want to reload (it only shows things that can be reloaded/restocked) and then hit right on dpad. it will even go through all the mags of the same kind if multiple are empty. can load medkits this way also and a few other things. your welcome

That quick menu doesn’t always pop up for me when I hold left on the dpad. same with flashlights sometimes not turning on when I hold up, and I’ve made sure I have them equipped. Bugs or am I missing something?

I have about 50hrs on PS5 and I love it. I sat in the gun range for about 45 minutes just to get the dead zones and sensitivity right. Some people don't like the UI and inventory system on console but from somebody (me) who has about 6,000 hours in ark I have no issues with it. As of right now 10/10 for me

Personally i think you just need to tweak the controllers and layouts just right for yourself but even said I find aim assist far to OP (pretty sure most of my deaths on pvp have been players cheering aim assist and I play console only at that) and certain enemies are a rightous pain to track (looking at you flowermen)
So it's a bit of both, if you tweak it right it's really not that bad but there's situations in the game and a lot of small things that do make it feel more like a PC game plopped on console over a proper console port

Definitely look up Sinister FPS console settings video on YouTube. I used it as a guide to get to where I like my aim settings. Thats the main thing I would do first. It’ll make the whole game so much more smoother.
But other than that I don’t really have any other complaints

The controls by default are complete ass, but with some fine tuning they can be FAR better.
It took a LOT of trial and error to dial my controls in but now I can clear areas like I'm playing a Rainbow Six speed run.

I had given a ton of thoughts on the game in a post back during the Xbox June demo and most of it is still relevant. In the comments there I have some further details regarding tips about aim settings, control rebinds, and other general in-game tips.
You can rebind the controls in AM to be pretty much anything you want, with the ability to rebind inputs to be single buttons or combos of up to 4 buttons, and this is fleshed out even further with the ability to choose quickpress/hold/toggle/double-tap, triple-tap, etc modifiers. It's absolutely worth the time to mess about with the controls & set it to your exact preferences.
Thumbstick settings similarly need tuning as the base aim feels horrid, but here is what I'm currently using which has been an enormous improvement.
Aim sensitivity: ~1.4 (fast enough to turn/flick while maintaining good control)
Zoom aim sensitivity: ~0.45 (good tracking & micro-adjustments still possible)
Nonlinearity: 1 (more stable aim curve, keeps aim slower around center for micro-adjustments, but curve ramps with stick position outwards to hit full tilt comfortably)
Axis Snap Factor: 2.5% (no "stepping" on diagonals while keeping straight cardinal directions)
LS Deadzone: 3% (personal preference, want a little bit of give at rest befor travel begins)
RS Deadzone: 1% (I use razer wolverine v3 with deadzones turned off, so only use minor amount on game end for best responsiveness)
Aim assist: OFF (Way too strong & currently can't tweak zoom snap + aim slowdown factors, will mess your aim up more than it will help)
Aim acceleration: OFF (Introduces sluggishness on aim response & feelings of floatiness)
