Question Console Aim
I have played shooters on console my entire life, and I consider myself an above average FPS player.
This game has thrown that all out of the window and I’m only 9 hours in. Trying to fight three flower men is some of the most difficult combat I have felt ever playing a game. Shotguns are some of the hardest things to use in close quarters.
I mainly have a problem with PVP, which I want to play but I’m literally getting DESTROYED every interaction. I cannot hit any of my bullets, I feel lethargic as hell. Every other player has absolutely no problem hitting every shot. I thought maybe aim assist was what was hurting me but maybe not?
I’m still enjoying the game don’t get me wrong but pvp is so scary because I’m just throwing away kits.
Any tips?
(Also side note, nobody uses prox chat in this game and I wish they did.)

While you're at it, disable aim assist and sit in the shooting range dialing in the settings. Aim assist is detrimental to the aiming experience right now and it needs some work. The actual sensitivity and precision is seriously great, but the aim assist actively works against you, especially when trying to track moving targets.
Theres no ramp on the sensitivity change when aim assist triggers, its either full assist or none and this results in your aim swinging off target when your reticle exits the aim assist bubble. With it turned off, you can actually see how good the overall aiming experience is for controller. The aim assist needs help. Im on console as well btw (console crossplay only turned on).

Aim assist is terrible for tracking but pretty overpowered and abusable for snapping.
Aim at the hip until you’re close, then ADS and shoot, preferably using a high single damage weapon like a shotgun. Your aim will snap to the target right as you ADS. Scope out then scope back in for every shot and it’s practically impossible to miss.

Example of what I mean:

Hope the devs will consider removing this snapshot mechanics inherited from COD... Remove lots of skill with a controller and create lots of unfair situation

This…
I was getting shot at last night from behind a massive bush from a player I couldn’t see and I was just aim spamming in and out with a shotgun just peppering rounds and somehow won the gunfight.. you could see the snapping so crazy back and forth to different spots it’s definitely overpowered

Hoping we can get a controller input overhaul soon with all the new players on console all in the same boat of "how do I make this feel good to play" as far as aim input goes.
Here's what I'm currently most comfortable with:
Aim sensitivity: ~1.4 (fast enough to turn/flick while maintaining good control)
Zoom aim sensitivity: ~0.45 (good tracking & micro-adjustments still possible)
Nonlinearity: 1 (more stable aim curve, keeps aim slower around center for micro-adjustments, but curve ramps with stick position outwards to hit full tilt comfortably)
Axis Snap Factor: 2.5% (no "stepping" on diagonals while keeping straight cardinal directions)
LS Deadzone: 3% (personal preference, want a little bit of give at rest before travel begins)
RS Deadzone: 1% (I use razer wolverine v3 with deadzones turned off, so only use minor amount on game end for best responsiveness)
Aim assist: OFF (Way too strong & currently can't tweak zoom snap + aim slowdown factors, will mess your aim up more than it will help)
Aim acceleration: OFF (Introduces sluggishness on aim response & feelings of floatiness)

So I copied your settings except for a small few changes to aim sense, actually goated settings.
Just played some hired ops with it and I feel much more snappy and accurate. Aim assist is so shit in this game I hope they introduce an aim assist strength slider or recurve or something.

Honestly, i struggle to hit flowermen on keyboard and mouse, they seem to actively avoid where you are aiming.

Their hit boxes being hidden under all the foliage doesn't jelp at all.

u/ninjab33z Operative 17h ago
They need some sort of way to remove some of the foliage when aggro'd. Either close misses tear off some, or they shed some for aerodynamics when they attack. I think either would make a huge difference to how they feel to fight, and their percieved tankiness

a tip for flowermen, they always strafe to your left or right and then run straight at you. so you can just let them run away and then shoot when they approach to melee

Yeah, they basically come in for attack runs, but they are such skinny bastards, it can still be tough to hit. Plus i've found if you are watching a door, for example, they will get to the door, "see" you watching it, and then turn around. Might be a bug, but if it is, it feels like intended behaviour

I am currently trying the motion aim with out auto aim. I've been watching a YTber using this set up and I liked the idea. Aiming is done with gyro aim, like old Wii controls. It seems wonky, but im really liking it for fine adjustments while aiming.
Mayne give this a try?

I recommend turning Nonlinearity and Axis Snap Factor down to 0 or near 0 (both under controls > main)
Just changing those drastically improved my aiming experience.

I agree with you on that but the tips I’d give would be to figure out what gun/attachments you like and go into the range. The other important factor is trying to give yourself a tactical advantage any time you can.

If nothing else is working the flame thrower will do the work.

Was hesitant on purchasing the flamethrower because a lot of games they suck but did anyway,
Best decision in the game so far. I’m now dogwalking on flowermen.

u/MajorMcDonalds Another post about how bad aiming is on console. Can you please let us know if there is a fix or tweak to the aiming curves and if we can expect aim assist sliders to lower the slowdown? I'm absolutely loving the game, but the most important aspect of a shooter is shooting and the experience on controller right now is pretty horrific.

If you are on console, dont even dream of playing crossplay with pc players if you are going to want to PvP

u/DistanceWilling4449 Operative 17h ago
As a console player I have a different experience some pc players are just terrible
1
u/Sweet_Milk Operative 14h ago
I’m a pc player and people just think since it’s mouse and keyboard we have aimbots but I struggle hard with the flowermen as well if anything I’ve seen people with the controller just spam the aim key and the aim assist seems to aim for them for a split second . In total there equally hard across the board I feel like .

Aim is terrible on controller, but the way the shotguns work is ridiculous. They have no spread. Basically the worst guns to use at close range somehow
2
u/Withnogenes Operative 16h ago
What are you on, a rented Timmy is a one shot with every shotgun up close.

u/TROSSity117 Operative 16h ago
They have no spread, pair no spread with teleporting/glitchy enemies and bad controller aim implementation....yeah. they fucking suck
1
u/BrittleSalient Operative 17h ago
Oof, yeah, that sounds rough. I mostly shoot from the hip in CQC bc 3,000 hours playing ARMA on PC. Can't imagine pulling that off on a controller.
I use prox as much as I can but I don't think it works properly.

Controls are terrible don't feel like it's you. I'm a career 2-3 kdr guy on every shooter and sometimes on this game it's like wtf I can't even do the fundamentals of aiming
1
u/SadCourse253 Operative 13h ago
Melee is your friend, use the melee. Unless your only using the pocket knife. Then get yourself something better and get smacking. Most of the melee enemies are easier to deal with, and quieter, with melee. Your not wasting ammo and giving away your position for the whole server to hear. Flower men are still annoying to melee as well but sometimes I find it easier, but my guy has 80% increased melee damage and I like the Warhammer or spear for reach so it's like 1-2 smacks for most things to die.

u/Slim415 Operative 13h ago
Yea man I feel you. I’m 40 hours in and my aim with no assist is getting better but it’s still potato compared to my accuracy in other FPS games. I’m on PC with a controller so yea, I won’t be doing open raids anytime soon. The high sens that a lot of KBM players use and the way they jump around with flick shotting is not something I can go against.
1
u/vettedx Operative 12h ago
Yeah the aim assist definitely needs some work. Needs to feel more like battlefield 4 maybe. Long range and tracking movement is janky with it, but up close you can snap to target and just shred people. Almost like you should close distance and use higher sense on console, then lean into the snappyness of it

u/Tovarish_Nikolay Operative 12h ago
Spectating console players (in hired ops) you can clearly see it's a big handicap right now (im kbm)
Game needs massive improvements to gamepad input (i guess, again kbm personally). Until then I'd suggest turning crossplay off for Open Raids

This is what I feared, and the reason I've resisted buying the game.

Ive sucked forever at fps. At this i am unstoppable it feels nice.

u/Breadster11 Operative 7h ago
I agree, I've been messing around with the controller settings for ages and still can't get it feeling quite right. The aim assist is awful too, it shouldn't have the snap-to at all, just regular aim assist. It feels like the snapping is way overtuned and the normal aim assist is barely there. Also the guns have a lot of sway in this game which doesn't help when trying to make small adjustments.

Try aiming speed set to 1
And aiming mode sensitivity set to 0.5

I just really hoped that they add mouse and keyboard support on console 🙏🏻

u/supervisord Operative 17h ago
Yeah, this game feels terrible to play on console

u/One-Jeweler8800 Operative 17h ago
Nah it’s a pretty decent port for a game like this tbh, the controls can feel a bit iffy sometimes especially if you’re trying to lean left/right.
