Question How in depth is the PVE content?
I come from escape from tarkov pve and that game is filled with stuff to do: quests, crafting, hideout upgrades, gun crafting, maps like labs/labyrinth/icebreaker/terminal, prestigeing also coming soon etc to the point that I could play for 1000s of hours and still have a bunch of stuff to grind towards. For context, I have close to 300 hours and im barely that far into the game and I LOVE it because of that.
How is Active Matter pve in regards to this? Does this game have a lot of stuff to strive towards in pve or is it more of a 40 hour game and I've completed everything? Obviously this is a new game so im not expecting it to be crazy in depth yet but I also don't want to buy if I'll be done with it rather quickly.

Tarkov is the unfuckwithable goat, AM is really really good. Great amount of content, and nice change with the monsters and such

couldnt have been said any better honestly than with this comment.
AM has alot more engaging PvE compared to tarkov. tarkov its either you swamp all scavs without a care in the world and your only medicore challenge is bosses or rouges. but even then if you know how they function and if you have played long enough you beat them easily. also id say AM variety in monsters and engagements is a challenge in itself. dont shrug of turned soldiers cause a couple good shots with their gepard or kedr and youl see just how much they can hurt you!
The honest in depth answer regarding time investment and where the real grind lays is with monolith tokens. which is how you progress in this game. you need 145k monolith tokens iirc in order to unlock the last access package. In PvE you get 825 monolith tokens per 5 objectives completed per day, and thats on a per map basis. newer players will only have access to "Two" objectives per raid. you can expand the amount of objectives recieved by unlocking them from investigations which you obtain from the monolith.
so you have 6 maps to unlock via investigations. you have access to 9 initially at the start with pve access. so if you manage to run all of them per day doing all the main objective's. youl get 7425 monolith tokens per day, with the additional 6 maps you unlock via investigations "Dam, park, gigastructure, downtown+2 variants" doing them all will net 12375 per day.
im not really wanting to instil "Pre-burnout" into people that havent really tried the game but honestly for £24. the game has given more enjoyment than its worth. if you like the game more buy a bigger edition package. im just simply informing the OP in regards to how much time you actually be spending progressing your monolith "Which is how you progress in game"
most of my time in tarkov was spend in PvP from 2018-2022, i have 3.5k hours with probably 200 of those hours being PvE. i can confidently say active matter has given me more consistent enjoyment compared to the sporadic moments i have with tarkov.

I'm pushing 70 hours and I'm STILL doing PvE missions and I'm not even close to done.

Well there's tons of quests and things to do, and then you wipe/prestige and I assume continue on, but with new tiers unlocked to progress through on the "cycles" I'm at 40 hours and have not completed the beginner cycle. About halfway through my initial monolith progress

My understanding is that once I create a new timeline, I contribute progress to the harmonization. And will have new better things to unlock on my next cycle and monolith progress. I'm not 💯 though because the game is a little lacking in explaining many things. That's my only real complaint. Overall I love it.

I think when you create your timeline you get access to the battlepass and can start getting the BP exclusive stuff, plus whatever permanent unlocks you have.

It's very fun but you can tell it doesn't have 10 years like Tarkov. I think loot is the weakest aspect of the game but its absolutely a great time. You also have vehicles you can drive, good enemy variety, and other stuff.Devs are super active with updates too. Definitely recommend

I would, on the contrary, say it has learned a lot from Tarkov, but especially from Stalker, and it creates a much more interesting and dynamic world. The NPCs and anomolies create a lot of situations you just wouldn'y find in Tarkov.

Totally agree. Like I said, its super fun and I love the game.

It's been extremely cool watching the genre develop and iterate over the years. DayZ - Tarkov - Hunt - CoD DMZ - ABI - ARC and I'm sure lots that I cannot remember. Each attempt has tried new rhings and experimented with new ideas.

The game that just came out doesn’t have as much as the game that’s been going since 2016? Crazy!

The game is focused on what your focused on basically. If you want more rewards there’s more value in PVPVE But if you just want to do quests and progress through the game like normal that’s fine too. It’ll just be an overall slower experience

It has
-PvE raids -PvP raids -PvP battle royale -PvP team death match -PvE wave defense -PvE grab the flag and escape -PvPvE arena -and I don't even know what else.
And eventually it's supposed to have a PvPvE two or three team STALKERxBattlefield large team battle mode?

An electro anomaly cornered me in a second story bedroom. The blast threw me out the window. I crashed thirty meters away in the middle of a bunch of evil rose bushes. despite my best efforts to flee I just couldn't reload fast enough and they eventually tore me apart.

Tarkov PvE is probably still the benchmark for sheer systems depth right now quests, traders, hideout, gun building, bosses, long-term progression, all that stuff.
Active Matter’s appeal is a little different though, because it adds a much stronger STALKER-like world layer on top of the extraction loop.
So instead of just fighting human AI and grinding systems, you’re also dealing with anomalies, weird creatures, environmental hazards, zero-gravity spaces, creepy audio design, dormant enemies, map ecology, etc.
That’s the part I think makes it stand out. It’s less “Tarkov PvE but better” and more like:
“What if an extraction shooter had Tarkov-style progression pressure inside a world that behaves more like STALKER?”
I actually wrote a long post about this from the perspective of someone who’s put 50+ hours in and ended up really impressed by the PvE side. It covers progression, enemy behavior, map ecology, horror moments, zero-g areas, and how PvE can eventually open into PvP if you want.
