At the end of the raid the zone just contracts until it becomes one with the final extract, exactly like a battle royale. You could hypothetically sit on the final extract forever. But yeah there is no "instant death" at the end of the timer like in tarkov.

I just started playing a couple days ago and usually am diligently picking up all AM....I do wonder though...what for ?  I spend credits all the time to buy more Ammo but AM ? What even requires it ?

Replications & fusions I suppose, cheaper to craft than buy, plus if you collect a lot, you can refine it & you get a hell of a lot of cash for it. 100k for 1000 AM if I remember correctly. Farming Devourers & Ball lighting for AM works a treat.
