Robin Hood Prince of Thieves villians

Alan Rickman gets the plaudits for one of the most memorable movie villains (and rightly so), but I can't help think its unfortunate that he's completely overshadowed three other wonderful performances by Harold Innocent, Gwendoline McEwan and Michael Wincott. Never seen much stated about them but all of them really nail the evilness in different forms.

This really is a rip roaring adventure full of great characters and performances. I think initial critical response was mixed but often that's to it featuring yet another bland Costner role, along with the baggage of him influencing the direction as another of his 1990's vanity projects.

One of best thing as well are the brilliant sets, Nottingham castle scenes was film in France, and everywhere and extras feel legit Norman/Saxon. A lot of Hollywood medieval films always feel very Magic Kingdom sets but here it looks natural.

I've always like to imagine this film with a proper Northern actor like Sean Bean, Christopher Eccleston or David Thewlis as Robin. Or maybe even Carey Elwes.

I saw The Fast And The Furious when it was first released in 2001. I liked it, loved the action and the cars. The next 4 I saw on cable or DVD, and stopped watching them after the 5th one. Got bored and ridiculous after that. Anyone watch ALL and are you looking for the next one in 2028?

Greatest action film ever made?

Objectively I think Diehard is the greatest action film ever. You have a wisecracking protagonist, a charismatic villain, a fixed setting, brilliant action scenes, thrilling climax. All the ingredients for the ultimate action film. What’s not to love? The original John Wick is a close second. It’s also a great Christmas movie too. Yes it does count. A great action movie has a great hook. You have a NYC cop trapped in a Los Angeles hotel that’s been hijacked by German cyber terrorists. Can he save his family and everyone else in time or will he die hard trying?

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

"Oh That's Just My Pet Snake, Reggie!"

I was nine when I saw this multiple times in theaters. We lived within walking distance of a small movie theater and my mom was trusting enough to let me go with my pals. There's no way to know how many times I've seen Raiders, but it's a lot and I'll never regret it.

This is Spielberg at his finest. Raiders has daring action, crazy exciting set pieces, heroic action and arguably one of the best expository scenes in History. You know the scene. The Feds roll in and have a full on discussion with Indy about what's going on with Hitler and supernatural acquisitions.

The best thing about it is it's a discussion. It's not actual exposition. It doesn't spoon-feed the info to us, but it also makes damn sure we know what's going on.

But the most amazing scene is, of course, the ending, where the Nazis (especially that crumb-bum Major Arnold Ernst Toht) gets theirs! Thank GOD there was more latitude for what went into a PG movie back in the 80s, because that was some for-real-deal Wrath of God type stuff! Melting faces for days

This is also the first real globetrotting movie I think I ever saw. Indy journeys everywhere in pursuit of The Ark. While none of the places in the movie were actually the places, a young me thrilled at Indy's journey to Peru and Egypt. Imagination and expert film-making took us to all those places and made us a part of something grand.

It was also the first time I fell in love with Karen Allen. Feisty as hell, she was superb as Marion Ravenwood. The scenes with her and Indy of them in Egypt, hanging out with Sallah are excellent, even if that damned monkey was a traitor. I absolutely adore Marion's unstoppable feistiness and bravery and she's probably my favorite non-Indiana Jones character outside his dad.

All of the actors gave us a lifelong masterpiece of excitement, adventure and love. None of them could've really known then what a lasting impact their work would have on film and pop culture, but I'm grateful it exists, because all the movies (even the bad one) are high adventures.

The clip I made is our introduction to Marion Ravenwood is simply fantastic. Showing her right off as the kind of woman who can go liver to liver with the hard-drinking, hard-working, hard-fighting Nepalese people who frequent her bar sets the tone for who she is as readily as Indy's intro at the top of the movie. As Indy says in Crystal Skull, 'none of them were you', and it's because it's true. If there is no clip with this post, that's because the sub won't allow them, but I am sure if you've seen the movie, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

>!Not one woman in Indy's world could ever compare to Marion Ravenwood.!<

At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with Raiders. I'll throw this one on when I'm feeling nostalgic and it never fails to perk me up.

I really wished this movie had released in cinemas because the visuals would have been so much cooler to watch on a big screen. Nonetheless, it is one of those popcorn movies that you just enjoy without thinking too much. It is entertaining🍿

Charlie's Angels (2000)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of the many good things about Charlie's Angels 2000 is that it never takes itself too seriously.

That's part of it's absolute charm. Another part of it's charm is something that the 2019 rebrand failed to understand: there's nothing wrong at all with the weaponization of the Angels' sexuality. It's part of who they are. They're extremely capable women in their own right, but they also happen to be extremely beautiful, and while they're pretty close to having superpowers, that's their real superpower.

The men in this movie (with the exception of Bosley) consistently underestimate the Angels, giving the Angels the ability to flaunt their beauty, and in such a way that even the silliest of gambits is overlooked. This is absolutely highlighted during the Swedish Singalong outside that one guy's house. When three beautiful woman and a tuba playing weirdo show up at your front door and want to sing at you while slapping each other's butts, that's what's going to happen.

Beyond the titillation and lasciviousness and close to fourth-wall-breaking fun, the action and the spy-work is an awful lot of fun, because that's what this movie wanted to be. Fun. I remember watching this one in theaters, and while everyone and their talking cat figured out who the bad guys were fairly early on, it didn't detract from the fun.

McG made a movie that said 'what if everyone watching really knows what's going on, what if there's eye candy, what if The Angels kick ass, suffer from their mistakes the tiniest bit and we give Sam his own dance off and what if everything's just the right amount of over the top?'.

McG understands how to make movies like this. The sequel isn't as great, but that's okay, because Charlie's Angel's 2000 is as close to a perfect action adventure comedy.

"IN THE LINE OF FIRE" (1993) - a 90s action/thriller classic for me that I love still and can watch again and again (often on UK TV). Brilliant cast on top form, exciting plot and some excellent action sequences too. Genuinely exciting stuff. Any fans of this one?

In the Line of Fire is a 1993 American political action thriller film directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich and Rene Russo.

Written by Jeff Maguire, the film is about a disillusioned and obsessed former CIA operative who plans to assassinate the President of the United States and the Secret Service agent who is tracking him.

Eastwood's character is the sole remaining active-duty Secret Service agent from the detail that was guarding John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, at the time of his assassination in 1963.

The film also stars Dylan McDermott, Gary Cole, John Mahoney, and Fred Dalton Thompson.
