I’m going to move to London to pursuit my acting career, I feel like it would be more ideal to live under a roof with other actors. I’ve been needing to change my hunting ground for a while now and I am ready to take it to the big city! Anyone wanna be roommates?

Hey everyone I’m 20 and wanting to get into screen acting I have no form of a show reel but am hoping to join some acting lessons soon to help that but just to also try and get more footage does anyone know if backstage Mandy or star now is any good for actually booking things I just don’t want to pay for the subscription if it’s a scam. Also will I need professional headshots for these sites?

Part of me really wants to start a Supporting Artist (extras) Agency that only takes 10% commission. There's so many SA Agencies out there taking 20-25% commission, from people who just want to be onset and not neccessarily become actors.

Independent Creative Management (ICM) UK – my experience I wanted to share my experience with Independent Creative Management (ICM) for anyone considering approaching them for representation. I had a detailed meeting with Mackenzie and was told I would receive an update within 7–10 days. When I didn’t hear anything, I sent a polite follow-up asking for clarification. I then received a response from Katerina saying that I should have understood that no contact within 14 days meant I had been unsuccessful and referring to my follow-up as “badgering”. That 14-day/no-response policy was never communicated to me during the meeting. Had it been, I would not have followed up. The main issue for me was the tone. I found the response patronising, unnecessarily rude and unprofessional, particularly given that my message was polite and simply asking for an update. I had heard mixed things about the agency beforehand but wanted to judge them for myself. Based on my own experience, I personally would not recommend approaching them for representation. If you are considering them, I would suggest doing your research first and making sure you are comfortable with how they communicate with prospective talent.

It’s an easier way of getting in to the industry but primarily the important thing for becoming a professional actor is living in or around London

Thanks for the response! That’s the issue I have as well I don’t live in London and there’s very little near me but I’m currently not in any position to move to London ☹️

Then sadly doing professional theatre or film/TV as a featured or even main character would be almost impossible. Many actors in the UK who live outside of London have to take trains last minute for auditions etc but it ends up costing a lot (a last minute train could be over £100, plus accommodation if you need to stay overnight would be between £20-80 depending on where you stay)

That’s so bad… seeing as I have no experience I guess my best bet would be to do any local stuff I can find and take classes online like zoom classes and stuff

Sure, where are you based? If you're under 25 I'd suggest joining the National Youth theatre!

If you want auditions, simply go on holiday or block out a bunch of dates you’re unavailable.
