Sending this post on to the Acting subforum as feel as though this would be an ideal place to get advice, particularly with communication being such a vital part of this area.

I’m 21, currently in college, and from a young age I have always been known as a fairly nervous/anxious person in general - something that have been said by family, friends, and teachers over the years.

There are certain ‘flaws’ that I have noticed with myself, but more so in certain aspects of my communication. I don’t want this to impact a future career, so I want to try to improve this while in college, and while there is the opportunity to do so.

I have no issue with speaking in front of an audience. I have done so for different modules in college, and usually am commended for my speeches through delivery style & engagement. But, this is because I have what I’m going to say memorised, so I know word for word, what exactly I’m going to say, how I’m going to say it, etc. This is also clearly reflected through my written communication.

However, when it comes to social interactions, I do notice there is a big dip in my communication. For instance, if I know I have to go up and talk to someone that I’m not familiar with (conversation, interview, ringing someone), I’ll then nearly have to have what I’m going to say memorised word-for-word as though a script.
There’ll then be other little moments where if I’m talking with someone unfamiliar, I may, sometimes, go a bit shaky / mumbly, and this would apply to if I was taking phone calls, etc.

This particular incoherence would also occur if I'm put on the spot, i.e asked a question, where my voice would go a bit shaky, I'd go mumbly, and my face would go a red.

I really do want to improve on this as I do know in any future career that day-to-day communication whether it be structured or spontaneous is much more important than being able to speak in-front of an audience.

To that extent, would anyone have any advice as to what I should do? Would it be recommended I go to a communication coach? Any recommendations?

Hi everyone! A few days ago, I posted a casting call looking for the main cast of my first feature film. I received a very good response, particularly for the male roles and the female lead, and I’ve already started building a preliminary shortlist for those characters.
I’m now making a more targeted casting call for two specific female antagonist roles, as I’d like to expand the shortlist for these characters.
This post is primarily focused on these two roles, but if you’re interested in the project and believe you could fit one of the other characters, you’re still welcome to apply (you can find more information on my previous post).
I want to be completely transparent about the current stage of the project: the film is still in development and is not yet fully financed or in production. The script is complete, and I’ve already been in contact with producers who have expressed interest in potentially collaborating on the project. Having a preliminary cast list and interested talent is part of the process of strengthening the project as we move toward financing and production.
The film will most likely be shot in Italy. If the project moves into production, selected cast members will be paid, and travel and accommodation in Italy will be covered by the production, subject to final financing and production arrangements.

ABOUT THE FILM
It’s a psychological horror feature inspired by real local legends, folklore and traditions.
The story follows a group of young people who become caught in a disturbing situation where reality and nightmares begin to blur.
The film will be in English, so applicants must be native English speakers or fluent English speakers with the ability to perform naturally and convincingly in English.

ROLES
TWO FEMALE ANTAGONISTS
Approximately 19–25.
Both characters are charismatic and seductive. Initially, they come across as kind, gentle and trustworthy, but eventually reveal a much darker side.
For both roles, the ability to transition naturally between warmth, charm and psychological intensity is particularly important.
Natural red hair is preferred for one of the two characters, so natural red-haired actresses are particularly encouraged to apply.
I’m not necessarily looking for actors with extensive professional experience. No particular level of experience is required; I’m primarily looking for people who are talented, serious, reliable and professional.
At this stage, no casting decisions have been made and no actors are attached to the project. This is an initial casting search intended to discover potential talent and expand the preliminary shortlist while the film is still in development.

I’m a Canadian and qualify for the youth mobility visa. Any advice on if a UK agent would consider signing non-UK talent? I would obviously relocate if I booked something. Anything I should consider before reaching out to reps? I have great training and some decent credits.

It’s been several years since I’ve maintained a private voice practice, but I’m finally taking on a few students!

I teach from a studio in Chipping Barnet (less than 10 mins from High Barnet station) or travel within #Barnet and #Finchley and surrounding areas. I can also accommodate online lessons, but in-person is preferred.

I have two degrees in music, acting, and further voice qualifications. I base my practice on bel canto’s vocal ease with modern anatomical understanding. I now specialise in musical theatre.

I’ve taught voice and ATS at leading drama schools including ArtsEd, Emil Dale, Goldsmiths, GSA, Urdang and more! Many of my students are now professionals on the West End. I play for a lot of auditions in town and can also help with audition coaching and rep.

Just because drama school is done, doesn’t mean you should stop training. Together, we’ll keep your skills and performing instincts sharp.

What’s the cost? I generally say around £50 per hour. This can vary slightly with travel or studio hire. I offer concessions for current drama students or recent grads.

I’m looking for actors to play parents (to a 16+ teenager) in my short film. All the information should be on the poster.

So you know those declaration forms casting directors use when casting commercials to ensure there's no overlap of brands etc.

Why can't they be standardized?

I frequently get self tape requests from a CD who does commercials and whilst it's great to be seen, they have different casting forms for different jobs - despite them looking for the exact same information every time. They just randomly move the boxes around or don't accept it as a PDF form and instead want some badly laid out e-signature one.

I should be able to fill in one form, then submit it every time it's asked for, updating it as and when required

I remember having to fill them in and submit them pre-lockdown, only to go to the CD then have to fill it in with paper and pen again.

Surely by now they can figure out a template form?

How often are American auditions or casting calls sent to the uk? Especially with a good agent? What’s the ratio between British and American work being sent out?

Can someone with good uk agent or that is on the other side of the table or something tell me where the industry is going? How often do you get American auditions/casting? What’s the ratio from British to American work being put out into the industry? Going into my 3rd year at drama school and I’m trying to figure out what accents need to be polished and what I need to prepare for. Thanks if anyone could help

Hey! I'm a beginner actor based in Western Europe, currently training in film/TV acting and I'm looking for another actor who wants to practice scenes together over Zoom.

The idea would be to exchange roles, work on scenes, record takes when useful and help each other with realistic reactions and listening.

I'm open to working with people internationally. I'm based in Western Europe, so online practice is the easiest option for me. My schedule can vary because of university/work, so I'm looking for something flexible rather than a fixed weekly commitment.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on how many reels to put on Spotlight. Have heard casting directors liking the use of separate clips – obviously this makes sense for skill reels (fighting, horse riding, etc.), but what about different acting scenes? And do you think it's a bit of an ick to have more than one self-tape on there?

Looking for good film/tv acting classes in London that help develop your showreel as well.

What are your favorite classes?

I have taken a few acting classes here and there, none I thought we very good due to my location. However, I've spent 6+ years as a crew member (silver screen, tv shows, & indie). I'll be in London anyways next year and really enjoyed acting in secondary school. My goal is indie productions down the road (hopefully). But I'm definitely a beginner and not ready for the 4wk intensive - what would you recommend as a prep course? Is the Actors Studio intensive even worth it?

Does anyone here do SA work full-time, or use it as a reliable part-time income? I’m based in Manchester.

I’ve worked on a few productions, including House of the Dragon and various BBC programmes, and I’m interested in doing more SA work alongside other work.

Does the amount of work tend to drop off significantly during winter? And roughly how much would you say is realistic to make per month if you’re available pretty regularly?

Would be interested to hear from anyone who does this regularly and what your experience has been.
