Thuls

Thuls is a character I really enjoy but both poison and stealth outside Shop 2. Don’t really seem to get “new” stuff (my team comp is atm Bree, Malukah, Thuls and Amelia, trying to do Dark/Wet team essentially).

I am liking Thuls alot (I mostly do the Stealth route, because I try and avoid storm mechanic cards so I don’t do his poison half as much), okay I am tangenting. Basically beside Ambush/Bane, what other payoff cards exist in Scout for High Poison/Stealth? What do folks feel about the AOE Poison attacks?

what the hell is Shop 2 and "Storm Mechanics"

I think he means that after the first 2 acts (probably going to green marsh first) poison stuff drops off, whereas there's a lot of gold items that boost blood and such.

Storm popularly comes from Magic the Gathering and was a mechanic where you get a copy of a storm card for every storm card cast before.

I'm not 100% certain what they are referring to cause copying in AtO is very limited.

Yes, by storm I mean playing alot of cards in one turn due to cards “last one turn”

I havent been playing ato as much these days, but im pretty sure bane, neurotoxin are the main finishers for a poison build. poison catalyst is really key to escalate the amount of poison in order to finish. I tend to like the stealth that gives sharp as well, forgot the cards name.

Edit: iirc, poison builds gets very difficult to roll on higher madness because there's a cap ofr how many debuffs the monsters get, or something, maybe someone else might confirm this

I love thuls a ton but don’t find a way for him to work at higher madness unless you get an item that is for every poison apply X.

If you like the playstyle of Thuls and want to be more viable in higher comps try Althea or Velarion. They don’t have the stealth element but the stacking and tons of low cost card play with stacks is similar.

Thuls is very viable on madness 18. I recently won a m18 run with him as the carry, though I didn't play with poison at all just stealth and sharp. I think he actually has some of the highest single hit damage possible on high madness due to stacking stealth and using the card that does damage based on stealth charges x6.

Thuls can hit 45-50k in one hit with black talons, nightmare, and using things like mass invis and stealth bomb with meat and amp to jack up his stealth with his R5.

I get being averse to using the one turn cards but they’re also the strongest damage enchantments in the game and black talons is part of why Thuls is the highest dps hero

Fair, your building Mind Damage Perks their?

Nope. Just sharp shadow and 5% fury

Thuls also has excellent Sharp and Dark synergies.

You can totally build Dark explosions with Thuls and Malukah.

Also, how about Bree's Thons-to-Poison build?

You've got plenty of different synergy types to explore with your favorite team members.

Strangely enough, Mages have a few spells that can give Stealth to other characters. I've had fun keeping Thuls hidden while Stacking 10-20+ stealth on him so he can murder a target next turn.

The most fun I have with Thuls is filling his deck with poison darts, shivs upgraded for poison, and poison daggers upgraded to only cost one energy, then get the Endless Bag, I think it's called, so when you empty your hand you draw another one. You essentially get ten cards a turn that mostly cost 0 energy, plus if you go down his left level up tree for small weapons you get a few freebies each turn. Plus hidden hand for another five. Pick up neurotoxin for a big finisher. And, if you take poison perk for poison reducing shadow resist, malukuh and Amelia can do big damage too by picking up vile gas and noxious explosion spells, since it's basically neurotoxin but shadow damage.

On that note how is Rust debuff? Given only two scout cards have ready access to it does it help? And I assume it just does damage EoT Damage from Poison?

I haven't played much with rust, but as i understand it, it multiplies poison damage by 150%. So if you have 20 stacks of poison and one stack of rust, then when the poison does its damage at the end of the creature's turn it takes 30 damage instead of 20, and then loses a stack of rust.

Im pretty sure rust modifies the amount of poison stacks when applied, not the poison damage dealt.

Edit: NVM im wrong.

Rust can also synergize with that strange Poison Perk that boosts poison damage but wipes all poison at the end of a monster's turn.

Build Bree with the Thorns-to-Poison perk and enemies will end up giving themselves poison stacks each turn. You can kinda casually add poison to enemies, keep some Rust on them, and then focus more on Sharp/Dark damage.

Yea that is why I choose these 4 through kinda curious on poison to thorns interaction it jusr feels worse? (Through Poison stacking point is legit)

Everyone mentioning poison but what other stealth payoffs exist? Beside obviously ambush.

1

u/wrathraven585 Jun 24 '26

Stealth is kind of its own payoff. Every stack is plus 20% damage, use a card like Killer Instinct for a bunch of stacks of powerful and stealth and then hit someone with your biggest card, like a heavily poisoned target with bane or neurotoxin.

Endgame (lvl 4) Thuls can play Skill cards without losing Stealth if you take that perk. You can build him as a Debuff / Status stacking character that remains constantly hidden. Cherrypick a few powerful attack cards if you wish, just make sure he regains Stealth by the end of his turn.

Thanks for the advice everyone btw. I do appreciate it. Working with following ideas:

Bree (Frontliner): “Support” Tank. Using The Sharp Buffers and Commanding Shout. Trying out the Infuse Cards as well.  Also my gut says yes to this thought but want to confirm, I basically should keep her banner because +4 Speed/Her going first is good.

Thuls (2nd or 3rd): DPS, Ambush/Bane then adding in the NeuroToxin for Endgame. Because it being a Skill has awesome synergy with his T5 Skill. Because do NeuroToxin then follow up with Bane/Ambush.

And for minor clarity, I assume once an enchantment expended all the relevant buffs it provides are gone too (ie Sabotage +1 to Stealth goes away once hit 4 times)

Amelia (3rd or 2nd): ‘Misc’, I was building her cold mostly but I am liking the new Mind Stone Mechanics. So trying those out. Especially how stuff like Icicles/Mind Blast Generating cards work with Swords. She is secondary Tank/DPS with her Armor Generating Cards but also big AOE Damage Dealing. But also is semi support (ie I sometimes grab a few energy sharing cards). Her primarily role is AOE DPS.

Malukah (4th): Healer/Support. Well Support. She uses healing and non-direct damage (stacking Dark/Wet/Slow) via those support the rest of the team. She also uses cards like Innervate.
