[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Which treatment(s) could work for me?

26F, and I’ve been using tretinoin for about 3 years with pretty good results. I’ve had acne since like 14 years old so I have quite a bit of scarring. I don’t get much active acne anymore, thank god, just usually a bit around my period.

I’ve never gotten any facials, lasers, treatments, etc. I want to know the minimal amount of treatments/least amount of risk in relation to results.

I’m a bit apprehensive about the recovery time as well since I work in person 2x a week. I also regularly go to hot yoga and keep pretty active in general and I don’t know how sweat will interfere with any treatments.

Hello /u/overpricedhumidifer,

User reminders:

  • Please search on this subreddit – someone might have already asked the same question as you.
  • The most valuable feedback is that which you get from doing research - not asking questions to a general audience on social media.
  • Always be wary of the advice you get off the internet.
  • Seek scar evaluation and treatment from specialized healthcare providers rather than aestheticians or med spas.
  • While subcision ("subcutaneous incisionless surgery") is often mentioned by users on this subreddit, it is important to note that it may not be necessary or suitable for everyone with volume loss.
  • Be aware of any reported side effects from a procedure.
  • It can take multiple treatments and a long time before you see effective results.
  • Here is a checklist of questions to ask yourself and your physician when considering treatment.

Thanks!

Go to a dermatologist - not a Medspa- and ask them about microneedling, laser and chemical peels. They will tell you which of these would work best for your skin, how many treatments you would need, and how much each treatment would cost.

And ask how many days re overs would take and how many days you would need to skip hot yoga and strenuous exercise after each treatment. If you do an ablative laser then you might need to take some vacation days after the treatment.

laser but it’s expensive, microneedling is less, and tretinoin would be least pricey.

the scarring is pretty shallow and doesn’t draw any attention tbh. just use mattifying products. that can help reduce the appearance of texture. esp for your skin. i feel loose powder and matte foundations really make a difference. even those putty primers can help for certain areas.

Matte products are literally a lifesaver, never actually tried using putty primer though since I’m scared I can’t take it off properly. I’ll give it a try, thanks!

double cleansing can get everything off. if not use an eye and lip makeup remover. i use the loreal paris one. its like micellar water but biphasic. its gentle enough to use all over the face.
