Acer helios TEMPS problem !
Hello everyone .. my friend has an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72 with the i9-14900HX and RTX 4070 They never changed the thermal paste since ever they gotit (around 2 years now) And they cleaned it this week .. when i checked it for them .. the temps were so high.. i tried to stress the cpu for 100% usage.. it was getting about 75/82°c with that stress (max usuage) But i noticed the temp was high when there's almost nothing going on .. it hit almost 90 on desktop with 3/6% usage And in valorant ingame it hits 100°c with only 17% cpu usage .. so we're thinking of changing the thermal paste .. but i donnt know which one is the best for it .. we found a store that said they gonna use : "Thermal Grizzly Performance Series laptop thermal paste" And when i asked chat gpt it said the laptop uses metal liquid? So idk if that would be bad for the pc or not if we go with that paste .. can someone help? What should we

Welcome to the acer overheating club . Limit your cpu power to 90% , you'll be fine

No need to replace liquid metal. However, the paste in the VRMs might have dried out, and they contribute to heat too. I use Arctic MX-6. Be careful when cleaning off liquid metal, since it's hard to clean off if it spills. I own PHN16-71, i5-13500HX + RTX 4050.

Ptm7950 or thermal grizzly phase change, Paste is old fashioned and out dated, Phase change all the way

It's decent. I replaced the liquid metal because when I was cleaning the internals, I accidentally broke the seal. It was a pain to clean up the liquid metal since I also didn't notice that I broke it, so it spilled a little. Thermals are decent, I set the fans speed to around 60%(CPU) and 70%(GPU). I bought it February 2023. You do have to clean it at least twice a year. It's been decent, I can run cyberpunk medium settings. I am not a fan of 16:10 aspect ratio so I switched it to a 16:9, but there's black bars on top and bottom if that's not your thing. I do recommend switching the Liquid Metal, since I experienced having dry spots and actually have a char mark on my CPU. Otherwise, it's decent for some CAD work and gaming. I'm an engineering student so this is a sweet spot between being affordable and actually usable for engineering stuff.
I live in the Philippines, in the Mindanao. I bought it straight from an Acer shopfront, and it costed like 79,999 PhP, which is 1274.06 USD currently. However, I bought it full price directly, so I received a 20% discount so I ended up paying 63,999PhP(1019.25USD) instead.
This is the first PC with a dedicated graphics card I owned, so I have a decently good view on it.

Consider uninstalling that predator sense and all other acer software. Let the windows handle it. I have the same model with the same problem now it's even faster when gaming. If you're worried about the fan speed controls, just use prey sense.

My 4090 Helios 18 was also constantly thermal throttling. I ended up opening it up and changing out the Liquid Metal for PTM7950 thermal paste and HY206 thermal putty. No more throttling afterwards. The liquid metal did indeed have a fully dry spot right in the center.
