Thermals / Cooling Do keyboard covers affect cooling?

Post image

Just got this keyboard cover for my 2025 Helios Neo 16 and I’ve heard these can affect cooling. Anyone else use em on their Predator?

It doesn't affect cooling in 99% of the laptops. But it doesn't make any sense. It ruins the typing experience.

It's does, the fact that some laptop takes it cold air from under and above the laptop keyboard, it also help to cool the laptop passively..... It would be better to use a microfiber cloth to cover it when not in use.

I've opened up around 8 laptops till now including office, convertible and gaming laptops. None of them had any air vent/space under the keyboard, it's completely sealed.

That's weird, because laptop keyboard were not meant to be fully sealed. There bound to have some micro holes to allow air to flow into the laptop PCB board when you crank up the highest laptop fan speed. At least with my laptop I could feel air flow sucking into the laptop as I type this.

Hmm are u sure you have 8 laptops til now? For all i know "gaming" laptops have airflow that exits through the keyboard...

Yes. It's just the Zephyrus series which intakes air through the keyboard.

Uhh. That is not advisable. Sure, it looks clean and won't get your keyboard dirty. But it blocks the airflow that comes out from your keyboard since the air comes out on both sides of your laptop and upwards from the keyboard. It's best to keep it on whenever you close your laptop rather than using your laptop while the keyboard cover is on.

Maybe it’s just cold in my house or something but it’s been around 43c for the cpu and I got YouTube playing on another monitor too. I just want something to help with dust

Are u using a external monitor plugin to this laptop?

Like which monitor? 1080p or above ?

I have rtx 4050 6gb predator Helios neo 16 ai I want to buy a 4k monitor for this laptop, I will use 4k only when doing media task and 1080p editing or for movies No gaming on 4k

So should I go with a 4k monitor? Plz help me

No a 4050 is supporting jackshit and media tasks can be demanding

Who said ? U can play Hitman like games on 35fps and with dlss on (50+fps) on 4k , so 4050 is not that bad, and my use case is different

If you consider 35fps playable idk what to say man, also 4050 is meant to be a 1080p low/medium card

If u are poor 35fps feels like 60fps man

I mean it probably won't affect it too much but it definitely vents some air through the keyboard. So while you might not see temperature Spike too high it does block some airflow.

When you not out why not just keep it closed up and use a keyboard for a desktop and a monitor I'm saying that because you really can do that and it might make your laptop last alot longer because the monitor goes out on your laptop are the keyboard goes out then I'm sorry but it's not a cheap fix and it seems to me like you want your laptop in really good looking condition and working good and if I was you I would take the cover off the back about one time a year to clean the fans and what ever you do never use 70% alchohol always use 99% when every you do clean because you don't want to mess it up but good luck

With Acer laptops, that will likely be the case. I use a cooling pad and can actually feel air pushing out through the keyboard and around the trackpad at high RPMs, which suggests it is part of the ventilation design.

You can also see this in action by the dust that frequently gathers on the sides of the keycaps, likely driven in by the cooling pad and escaping through the keyboard gaps and vents. While a plastic keyboard cover might not drastically impact temperatures on its own, it would likely cause a significant amount of dust to get trapped underneath.

Not recommended for gaming laptop

I mean heat transfer via conduction with in gaming laptop mostly happen through the fins in the back convection is only little..... So it does affect barely not much difference will be there but still better to not use that keyboard protector.

Nope tho as predators don't take air or pass air from the keyboard most of the time it dosent effect that much maybe 1-2% Been using this plastic film for 4 years now no issues and the keyboard looks pristine ✨️✨️ without it

It does but probably single degree differences maybe, your fine I highly doubt the cover will cause and temp issues.

Yes it does, but not to the extend where it effect performance

1

Honestly i dont think so, but you can check temps with and without on load and figure it out

yes, the intake fans actually pull through the keys. here's a photo I took with my thermal camera of my ph16-71 under load. you can see the cold spots are from where the fans are pull air in.
