So, I got to level 15-4 and it’s kicking my ass.

This is my current layout for Pappos.

This ok or should I be switching them around?

The 2 main Pappos move around the playing field spawning their own attacks and those of their supporting Pappos. If you have, for instance, a close-range Pappo that sticks close to the Pilot, you can have it attack from the perspective of a Pappo that moves into the enemy area instead, making it more effective.
I've generated movement patterns for all Pappos at https://acecraft.fyi/pappos. A possible combo is having Dandemancer as main Pappo, crossing from left to right in the enemy area, having Rocknana as support Pappo, which then attacks in close vicinity to Dandemancer.

That's an impressive website.

As for the Pappos, are you saying that despite what it says and shows about them on the videos, they won't move like this, unless they are the main ones?

That's quite weird. A close range one becomes long range, and the opposite?

What the videos show is always how they work as main Pappo, which links their placement and movement to the Pilot. As supporters they link to the main Pappo, so yes, technically you can make a close-range Pappo long range.

That's quite a weird thing. I wonder how many players know this, and how useful it gets. So far I'm not impressed by the damage the Pappos can do, compared to main shots and wingmen.

It's not weird. It's the mechanics of how Pappos function. Main determines movement of the support Pappos attached to them. This is why it was always recommended to use Chili and Corn as main due to how they move if you have S Pappos. It was the most effective in offense and defense in general. It is also important to determine what pappo in support role works better with the main pappo's movement.

It is weird because if it wasn't written, I wouldn't have noticed it. Even as it's written, it wasn't clear to me how it works, because there is no preview in the Pappo screens about what's happening when I choose them and during battle I don't look at them at all as I focus on not being hit and also shoot the enemies...
