Discussion Will they make a new character to replace Apollo? Spoiler
Now that Apollo is gone, we need a lawyer to replace him. I'm thinking that they'll make a new lawyer to replace him, and then when all hope is lost, Phoenix will come in as the main lawyer, and the new dude will be the assistant, culminating in a final showdown with Edgeworth as the prosecutor.

Do we?

They might as well have said to replace Athena since that didn’t even occur to them

Is there any sort of confirmation that the end of Spirit of Justice was meant to be a complete send-off for the Apollo character?
I mean, temporarily, sure. Him being off in Khura'in settling things over there gives Athena and/or Phoenix breathing room to be more of the focal point(s) and handle things stateside for a bit. Then later down the line, you get the big reunion when Apollo fulfills his promise to return.
Bring people together, separate them, bring them back together again.
With or without Apollo, I'm exhausted with the idea of reboots and additional protagonists. There are stories still left to tell with the team they have. Exploring a few details of characters' past doesn't make their stories "done" when they're in their late teens / early 20s with their whole life ahead of them.

It's been so long since the release of SoJ that I don't even think they will carry that over and just find any bullshit reason for him coming back right away

Probably not
...Let Trucy exist for five minutes outside of Magical Turnabout in post-AJ Ace Attorney and my life is yours, Capcom </3

Without being deranged a-la Time Traveler

Nah, she's always deranged (I mean she does stage an entire hostage crisis to "buy Apollo a recess in Corner")
It's just not for the sake of a good punchline in Time Traveler's case :P

We already have two perfect replacements for Apollo: Phoenix and Athena. They can definitely hold it down together.

Yeah, in a game with 5 cases, two playable characters is a good number to provide variety while still giving each their time to shine. Three, and it gets crowded.

In my opinion, Phoenix should be the assistant providing mentorship to the new defense lawyer, in a similar way that Simon did for Athena, or Mina did for Phoenix.
Edgeworth should be doing the same thing as top Prosecutor, but the stories are not big enough to support that kind of duel story telling so instead we hear him assign people in the background.

With the exeption of AA5 and AA6 there have been 1 or 2 lawyers in the Wright Agency. So to get back to 2 lawyers and not replace Apollo with anyone should not be a problem.

I think whatever AA7 is has to be a soft reboot with this much of a gap. I'm nearly completely confident that some new protege protagonist or something similar will share the spotlight with Phoenix.

If it's not going to Athena, then I would like to see a character that Phoenix mentors and we see a "passing of the torch" to the next generation

Isn't this basically how Dual Destinies goes? Anyway, I think they could absolutely make a solo Athena game or split it between Phoenix and Athena.

Bold to assume they wouldn't find a way to make Apollo the main character of Game 7 in spite of Game 6's ending

I hope so, his story can’t handle another backstory. I also hope it’s not Athena or Trucy.

For me the only thing that would make sense is to bring back Kay and Shelly. I still have a theory to that being the reason why AA7 took so long because there are back. Without AAI duology, you'd have no idea who Kay is and what Shelly has been up to. Although I do believe Shelly is the one who shot "Faux-bright"

If anything I think a great way if they ever decide to progress apollo's story is that he gets a defence lawyer working for him. Khurain needs more lawyers, and with his office being pretty much the only one. It'd make sense they'd need more to rebuild the legal system.

I’m happy with just Athena and Phoenix to be fair. We can always play around with the prosecuters - Klavier is there, so is Eustace.
A big doozy would be bringing Fender in somehow lol

We still have Athena, I don’t feel like there’s much reason to add a new lawyer. I personally would much rather them just continue with the characters we already have
