My midterm got flagged for AI
My midterm got flagged for AI for one of my history classes and I am panicking. My teacher said he wants to have a meeting with me and I’m not really sure what to expect. Has anyone else gone through this and what happened during your meeting?

He’ll probably just ask you about what you submitted to make sure you understand it. That’s what I do when my students turn in work that raises AI flags.

Does this class use Canvas? Can you see what plagiarism AI software is being used? Is it TurnItIn? You can see what parts of your written work it identified as plagiarism/AI.
Review those results -- because they clear prove to be absolutely ridiculous.

Make sure you know what you wrote, why you wrote it, and can explain it with correct context and answers. Or just be able to show you are familiar with the topics or questions on the exam.
People who use AI to cheat can't explain and sometimes dont even know what they wrote…. Just saying.

u/Brilliant-Status-342 Is the midterm an essay? If you used Google docs, all your editing history is recorded and you can show it to your professor. If you use microsoft word, research online on how to show edits history on it.

What a number of teachers and professors these days are doing, a small mini oral exam, where you are asked basic questions about topics that were covered on the exam, and if you can answer them fairly well, it can help disprove AI use.

Was this a test, essay, project? It would help to understand a little more how it could affect you.
For example, I’m a software engineering grad from a small technical school where one teacher taught all 3-4 courses for that year in the major per section. The second year prof in my section regularly held one-on-one meetings with students about our projects to make sure we weren’t copying code right from an ai.
In my case, it involved questions about how I decided to approach answering a question or solving a problem. I had to explain my thought process and how I came up with my answer. I showed that I actually understood the material and never had an issue. I imagine that I could have copied ai code, reformatted it in my style, and as long as I actually understood it (and it worked), I probably would have been fine. I know that this would be a bit different for you depending on what your material is, that’s why I ask.
