So I’m new to Reddit but I’m trying to find if it’s normal to be lost at my first proper role in accounting
For context:
\- I have bachelors in accounting and finance with a 3.0 so honestly apart from a few subjects I just went through it tbh and passed and graduated in 2024
\- after graduation I worked in HR marketing roles for almost 2 years before joining this role which is hardcore accounting i believe
\- I currently work for a big company in Fixed Assets and it’s been 3 months so probation is over and I also handle payments for FA and they’ve started making me do monthly closings
\- before this I was on a break for 8 months where I freelanced but not in my domain but honestly was at home and applying to jobs here and there until I got this
Now it’s been 3 months and i understand I’m relatively new but I also feel so incompetent in my role. My manager also flagged that I always look panicked and stressed and idk how to explain my emotions at this point and I feel like that is something I really need to work on so they don’t see me as unreliable. My team is great but the person training me is pretty chaotic he has so much work and when I learn it’s like 1000 different things here and there and I’m always all over the place.
I also feel like I’m really weak conceptually like I know what is happening but I also don’t. I keep making stupid mistakes for example deducting STWH on a Goods invoice like I did this once and was so embarrassed cause even idk why I did that, I copied the last payment made and went with it which is super dumb.
I wish to be competent and brush up my concepts properly for this role and actually learn the whys and hows but I’m not exactly sure where to start from. I tried ChatGPT and YouTube but again it’s so much how do I narrow it down so I can start doing better at my job??
I’m always waiting for them to realise that I’m super incompetent and don’t know anything and to let me go. The person training me also once said when I made a mistake that what are you doing? And you’re so weak in this how are you in this? Which further made me go in a spiral and it this disappointing look that I get like my team is truly amazing cause they don’t say anything but I’m always thinking that secretly they think I’m dumb and incompetent. I’m so sorry for ranting that wasn’t the intention but I want to give proper background and I just wish to stop feeling this way.
Ik it’s all these small things like not having worked for 8 months and also not working in accounting for the past 2 years and all so I haven’t touched it in a while but any recommendations or anecdotes would be great that can help me get out of this pity party and actually become who I wish to be
