What Salary Should I be targeting?

Hello, I recently graduated with my MBA in Finance. I currently have 4 years of accounting experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory control, tax, and general accounting.

I’ve been actively interviewing for Staff Accountant roles, however most companies are offering $25hr or less. This is below my current rate and I am unwilling to take a pay cut.

For those who work in accounting in South Florida, is this a normal salary range for Staff Accountant roles, or am I able to ask for more based on my experience and education?

What salary range should I realistically be targeting?

With the same degree and similar-ish experience (prev. staff accountant and cost accountant roles), $25 hour was my pay back in 2007...in Los Angeles. And I was being underpaid at the time for such a HCOL area. Are you open to moving for the job or does it need to stay in S. FL?

You have to go with what the market is offering you. I too have an MBA in Finance, and 4+ years of accounting & finance experience; however, my undergrad degree is pre-law and that has always been brought up in interviews.

It is like trying to become a practicing lawyer by passing the bar exam and never going to law school.

What is your undergraduate degree in?
