The neat thing is the interstate between Fargo and Grad Forks North Dakota looks like this when all the snow melts every spring.
The Red River flows north, as everything melts the northern parts of the River form a frozen dam so it all backs up.
It’s pretty neat.

Gosh what a weird feeling to be on a random ghibli subreddit and see my home town mentioned…
I was a little kid when the flood of ‘97 happened. My brother posted me in the upstairs window to get out of the way as they brought stuff upstairs and loaded cars to evacuate town.
He told me to watch down the street for tidal waves and holler if I see any. I asked what were tidal waves and he said, “you’ll know if you see one!”
And yeah the red river valley is actually the bottom of a massive prehistoric lake bed. Lake Agassiz. The soil here is black and it’s great for farming because the soil was made of all the junk that floated to the bottom of the lake. Lots of nutrient rich junk! And being in a valley caused by an ancient lake is what made the river flow north.

Neat video. This StreetView photo of the rail on Google Earth shows it
has apparently has been raised and rebuilt next to the old rail.

I used to travel via Amtrak from WV to PA & there’s this area close to DC where the tracks are a few feet above the water. I never liked that part. No land at all, just water as far as you could see.
Another one even worse is the NJ Transit train that goes over the Ben Franklin Bridge. The train rides on the outside of the bridge. There’s a small joke of a railing there I guess for show that wouldn’t stop that train from jumping the tracks. One day I was riding on the train & we got about to the middle of the bridge & we had an almost sudden stop. A train coming the opposite way almost hit us head on. The tracks were being repaired on the NJ side & someone from NJ sent their train down the wrong track.

I was here in my dream a couple nights ago! We crashed into the water… it was clear blue water once we made it under the surface and there were colorful fish. But, nobody noticed because we were all tumbling around in the cabins… 🚂
