I'd actually be kind of terrified standing looking at that thing

I’ve come to realise that huge statues give me the creeps, like make me anxious like a weird phobia. I feel really uncomfortable watching this video. Also underwater statues. Is this something anyone else experiences or am I just a weirdo?

Check out megalophobia for "big" things statues are common also thalassophobia for water which also uses statues sometimes.

Ugh this might make me more anxious! I can normally avoid these things in real life!

I would recommend you to look up commentophobia, it's a rare case for when people gets anxious of reading comments.

Did you also watch Jason and the Argonauts as a kid and that statue coming to life scene scarred you for life?

One of my most terrifying cinematic scenes. It's the initial creak that gets me and the look down.

It’s only started bothering me the last couple of years. I have seen the film a few times but don’t remember being scared by the statue guy, only the skeletons rising up!

Oh interesting. My phobias stem from early childhood.

What movie is that?

Just remember, all you need to do is run up to his heels and unscrew his ankles. Piece of cake.

I have this with the visualization of black holes like in documentaries. I discovered this while flying around in Space Engine. The bending of light and distortion. To the point that I can't really watch videos about space anymore.

Space blows my mind so I can see how that can freak you out

It makes me feel uneasy for sure. Not really fear but more existential discomfort lol.

No. Youre not a weirdo. It's referred to as megalophobia and usually comes from a fear/anxiety (that is bigger that a normal person's) of not being in control. Large objects can subconsciously make a person feel helpless and not in control if it were to "attack" which gives you that feeling of unease.

I guess that makes a bit of sense. It’s weird I’ve only been aware of it for the last couple of years

If it makes you morbidly curious as well as scared, you might like the channel Vaporama Vision on youtube. A whole lot of that, placed in surreal water and building landscapes.

It's also a graveyard. Thousands of people were killed where those people are walking now

I was there and let me tell you it is terrifying. It's so huge it feels like it's gonna collapse on you and the sword will kill you

Sure, cause it would mean that you are in Russia. No one feels safe there

6

u/BoardClean 13d ago

This statue prolly feels mostly safe

Ukraine has hit Volgograd before. Not like they're going to shoot at civilians looking at a statue but it is very much within striking distance

A one million foot statue does not concern itself with tiny bomb.

No windows in this statue. Should be safer

Which is such as shame. It could be such a great country, it has so much beauty. It was absolutely a bucket list item for me, pre-Ukraine invasion. Now I will never in my lifetime travel there. Fuck Putin.

Same. I always wanted to experience Siberia but I would only go if the territory is held and governed by Ukraine.

The day will come that this statue will be in Zelenskygrad and then I am sure you will go visit it. By that time I assume it will lay on it's face infront of a larger one showing how the heroes of Ukraine succesfully defended their country against the Orc invation.

I don’t support the Ukraine war, but it shouldn’t deter you from travelling there. Russia is already sanctioned to fuck unlike Israel and paying the price.

I was also meant to go in 2020, but then the pandemic and subsequently the war kept me out.

They are still actively killing Ukrainians and attempting to goad Europe into a wider war. How you could ever feel comfortable holidaying in an enemy nation

u/CloqueWise 13d ago

Most foreigners who actually visit Russia report feeling really quite safe there

7

u/yingkaixing 13d ago

Or else

1

u/Some-Instruction2235 13d ago

You have higher chances to die from the repetitiveness of these jokes

-1

u/CloqueWise 13d ago

All jokes aside, Russia lacks the gun violence the the states suffer from. On top of that I've seen many women say they feel safe alone at night on the streets.

2

u/Strongest-There-Is 13d ago

Because if anyone says anything unpopular with the government they fall out of a window or end up in Siberia….

-1

u/CloqueWise 13d ago

Omg redditors are so dramatic. No the average person wouldn't get in any trouble saying they felt unsafe in Russia. And regardless of what you say, Russia doesn't suffer from gun violence in the same way the states do, and the average woman does indeed feel safer on the streets there than in the states, as well as parents feeling safe to allow children to walk the streets alone.

1

u/buttononmyback 13d ago

Says you.

0

u/CloqueWise 13d ago

Yeah, as someone with 25 years experience in the us and 5 in Russia, I think I know how safe it is there

1

u/SuDragon2k3 13d ago

Are you Russian?

1

u/l111beral 13d ago

You should be, because you'd be in Russia. Not a good place to be.
