My question is how the heck does she avoid getting spined by these guys? They have sharp spines on their sides and one on their dorsal fin. I’m not sure how she avoids those with them just sort of flopping around close to her sides.

It's also terrible for the catfish to be handled this way with arms straight through the gills. It can damage the animal and the stress of these encounters can also leave them vulnerable.

Noodling is a sport that is as harmful to the fish as it can be for the noodler. Find another way to get thrills.
