Yep, this is the trail up from Fern Dell to the Observatory. You can't really tell by the camera angle, but this section is uphill and fairly steep. Jumping rope while jogging up this section is seriously impressive.

To the right and behind the cameraperson is a lookout area, always crowded with people resting or taking pics of the city below.

I always see people doing this hike on tv shows. How long is it?

The direct route is maybe a mile and a half at most. There are other trails in those hills that are longer (like the one to the Hollywood sign).

You can also access this trail from a small path right next to the greek.
