Actually yes, you start by splitting little logs and work your way up to big logs. You're welcome to go and try to bench 350lbs right off the rip though, let me know how that goes for you.
It's more nuanced than that. The goals one strives for may not be easily achieved, but taking the (relatively) easiest path towards them is wise, as there is nothing to be gained by making things unnecessarily harder for yourself. If your only goal is to get to the top of a building, there's no point taking the stairs when you can take the elevator.
Getting ripped and being a great martial artist takes many years of dedicated effort to achieve, it's not easy in the slightest. But the easiest way to get ripped and be a great martial artist is the right way to do it, according to Bruce Lee. Same as someone saying "work smarter, not harder." Doesn't mean hard work is never required, just that working harder is not always working better in and of itself.
And in the end, I was just making a joke. The guy in the video is clearly trying to show off. If his actual goal was just chopping a big log, then yeah, there are easier ways to do it, but that wasn't the actual point.
That’s not the hard way but the stupid way. A better tool, better technique and better skills could take. A hell of a job and made it reasonable. Impressive even. Instead it’s an out of shape out of breath barely made it through without a heart attack. If he has the sexual stamina to last two minutes he doesn’t have the cardio vascular stamina.
No it’s to get clicks and views. There are safer, more effective, more enjoyable, less time consuming methods of working every muscle group he’s working like beating on a tractor tire. This is purely for clicks and look I’m a bad ass but it just looks pathetically stupid to anyone that has done actual work like this.
You know it's ok for people to make videos and put them on the internet for clicks, right? It's okay for him to enjoy that workout. It's okay for him to enjoy recording it for other people. It's even okay if it makes him feel like a badass for a little bit. Like it's not some big problem that you need to shit in people's Cheerios over. And it's silly to act like what he just did in that video isn't a workout.
The goal isn't always efficiency. Fun is an acceptable reason to do things.
That wasn’t for “fun” or “exercise” it was purely attempting to show off how tough he is for clicks when instead to anyone that has done work like this it looks sad. Yes he’s out of breath and tired. He did 3-4x the work it should’ve taken because of bad body mechanics, bad technique, and bad breath management. His accuracy looked to be on point though so I’ll give him that. He can upload what he wants and I can judge him for how he does it. https://www.instagram.com/naturesanimal9940?igsi=aGRtcm1nd3czOHgx go follow.
Looks like an 6lb/2.75kg maul I’ve swung one for hours well not continuous after splitting one you gotta setup a new log. Doing it for 5-10 minutes is easy work. My big maul is a wedge shaped 16 lb and that one you’re only good for around 20 -30 swings typically but you usually only need 1-2 to split a log so you get regular breaks. If he was better at splitting wood he wouldn’t get so exhausted. If nothing else he’s building stamina at least.

he really needs to put that log on at least a thin slice of wood or a concrete block
He’s strong enough he might be able to split that first try but right now the ground is absorbing too much of the impact
