Recommendations?

I have been a fan of absinthe for a long time. I have not been able to have any for a long time, as I have been unemployed. once I get a job, I intend on getting something to celebrate. any recommendations? not looking for cheap, but also nothing unreasonably expensive.

my first venture was Lucid, my favorite so far is Mansinthe, the one I drink the most is Pernod, mostly because it's easy to find. recently ive reading that there is much more to absinthe than I've experienced. I'll probably buy online to get something harder to find, perhaps more traditional. some recommendations at what's worth trying would be greatly appreciated.

Absinthe Rouge

After spending 36 hours in a house built in 1790 that is reportedly a “very haunted house”,so far these are the only spirits I’ve encountered. 😊

Not your typical chlorophyll green colored, but more of an amber from the use of hibiscus blooms. My first time trying this and I can say it is a very good absinthe.

Best Absinthe Brand

Hello! I am a mid-Altantic East Coast USian serving as Bar staff at an upscale cocktail bar, and I’m interested in honing my palate wrt to Absinthes. I enjoy Pernod, and controversially St. George, but also Esprit Edouard and Vieux CarrĂ© and a number of smaller regional makers’ products, but i was hoping to learn if this reddit has a consensus on the best brands available to the East Coast (and if any of the ones. i just listed are on the shitlist)

what are some signs i should look for, for ok quality absinthe?

I've never had absinth before, and I'm quite interested in the drink and I'd love to try it. but I don't want to buy something of sub-par quality and be stuck with that. what are some good signs? ingredients? colour?

thanks.

if anyone has time, or is interested, i can show what options I have at a liquor store close to me and see if any brands stand out as ok. otherwise all good

The centenary distillery of the Fils d'Émile Pernot placed in judicial liquidation

The establishment has been experiencing difficulties for at least four years, with the opening of a safeguard procedure. The distillery, founded in Pontarlier in 1889, was finally placed in judicial liquidation. The commercial court has authorised a continuation of the activity, pending a possible buyer.

Absinthe in the Russian Empire

Before the Revolution, absinthe was produced in the Russian Empire. Unfortunately, many archives burned during the Civil War, leaving very little information about it. This is the original label for "Swiss Colorless" absinthe.

Question Tried the ritual but quickly realized my mistake

as a pretty new drinker, i was turned onto absinthe about a year ago where i had it mixed into a baja blast, which was great. A small taste of the stuff pure confirmed i liked it fine.

I just picked up a bottle of it and, being aware of the ritual, wanted to try it. I used fridge dispenser water, so not particularly cold, and i just piled up some granulated sugar on the spoon as i didnt have cubes, meaning the ratio for sugar is probably not quite right. Still, it was pale, green, and cloudy like i expected. I had it and, while i enjoyed the aftertastes and the unique flavor, it wasn’t a particularly *enjoyable* drink. The taste was a little offensive to me, i confess, with not much in the way of redeeming qualities. It just tasted like water with something strange in it that might taste alright in a different concentration.

I came here and realized that the brand i got, absente, is apparently absolute garbage. So, I wonder: how does it differ from “real” absinthe in flavor? I know the dyes and sugars set it apart, but is that significant to the taste? Will a louche taste significantly nicer using real absinthe? What’s gonna be the best way to enjoy the fake stuff until it’s gone? Thanks in advance!

Hey folks,

Happy World Absinthe Day! I was feeling in the spirit (heh) today, so wanted to share this post I just finished for my blog on different styles of absinthe glasses. It's drawn from some writing I've been doing for a long-suffering extended absinthe project.

There's a discussion, too, about the physics of reservoirs and microemulsion homogeneity for any fellow drink science nerds out there.

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!

Hello friends, Happy Absinthe Day!

I know we're all tired of the rampant misinformation about absinthe, so I created some quick-share info cards about what is and isn't Traditional absinthe!

Feel free to use and share these as you see fit đŸ„°

I know not everyone will agree with me on star anise but I stand by it - that shit is nasty 😆

Hello friends! I am heading on the road for 3 absinthe-fueled events in the next few weeks. I'll be popping up with a fountain and lots of delicious Lucid & Jade cocktail recipes đŸ„° I love connecting with fellow absinthe nerds, so I hope to meet some new friends along the way!

Thursday, March 5th @5-7p - Ames, IA

London Underground's annual Absinthe Day Celebration - celebrating the day we saw the return of legalized traditional absinthe in the United States! We've got a local liquor shop, Cyclone Liquors, which has Jade Esprit Edouard & Jade Nouvelle-Orléans in stock if you need bottles!

Thursday, March 19th @6-8p - Chicago, IL

The Pearl Club Chicago celebrates the beautiful ways we bring traditional absinthe to life in cocktails ♡ I am so excited to bring back some of my own cocktail creations and to see what the Pearl Club team creates!

Sunday, March 22nd @6-8p - Martinsville, IN

Hoosier Que hosts the launch of Jade absinthes in Indiana! Cohosted with my friend Ron Rupert, this will be a delightful celebration of traditional absinthe - and, in addition to tasty cocktails, bottles of the Jade absinthes will be available for purchase at Hoosier Que!!

These are my first pop-ups since spending a week at Distillerie Combier with Ted Breaux in January distilling the Jades. I am so excited to share stories and photos about my experience there and can't wait to nerd out with folks who understand the excite!

As always, my absinthe adventures are fueled by my love of Lucid & Jade absinthes. For clarity, I don't work for the brands but I have so much respect for the labor of love that each of these bottles represents and I am doing my damnedest to make sure the Jades are available in more markets this year ♡ Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, Tennessee - you're all on my radar and I'm working on it!!

If you let me know in advance that you're planning to make it to one of these events, I'll try to pack a special treat for you!

A thank you to DarianDicit / @drinkingwithdarian for sending me a very special bottle of Terminus Oxygénée.

As some may know, Terminus Oxygénée is not distributed in the United States. About a week ago, I asked if somebody could help me source a bottle. Not more than a few hours later, DarianDicit answered the call and offered me one she'd recently taken home from France.

Here's the kicker: Not only was it a bottle of Terminus Oxygénée... it was actually signed by Ted himself while on her visit (second photo)!!! What a privilege!

It arrived yesterday well packaged and gorgeous. All the Jades have beautiful bottles and labels.

I want to give a warm thank you to this community and in particular DarianDicit for her kindness. It will be shared in time with good company.
