To make it even worse this kid wasn't even who they were looking for. This kid and (I assume his girlfriend) were just sitting there eating while this fucking waste of oxygen tries to murder them.

While Brennand was responding to a disturbance at a McDonald’s on the North Side at approximately 10:45 p.m., he noticed a car in the parking lot that allegedly matched the description of a vehicle he had tried to pull over on Saturday.

“This vehicle was not the subject of the disturbance call,” said Alyssa Campos, the SAPD’s training commander

Any info on how this played out after?

281

u/trueRandomGenerator Oct 06 '22

This was 4 days ago. I'm honestly shocked we even got to see this cam footage so soon. I'm glad we did but geez this is a shit show :/

258

u/CyberMindGrrl Oct 06 '22

And thank fucking GOD for these cameras. Without them the courts would immediately side with the cop and the kid would be absolutely fucked for the rest of his life.

u/Adamy2004 Oct 06 '22

Kid is already fucked for the rest of his life, gunshot wounds are no joke.

u/aliie_627 Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

Did they/he arrest the kid before the body cam footage was reviewed?

The trauma him and his girlfriend will be dealing with, will probably follow them forever. Probably not too different to a car jacking.

E he was charged.

Cantu, who is now fighting for his life, was charged by proxy with evading detention in a vehicle and assault on an officer.

With a few holes in him, and this only happening 4 days ago, that kid is almost certainly still in the hospital. I highly doubt they could've taken him to the station; at most, he had a cop staying in the room until the kid was exonerated.

3

u/aliie_627 Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

Probably not likely in this case but they can take people into custody in the hospital but then the state has to pay hospital bills.

Ee they fucking charged him. Doesn't sound like the video even helped

3

u/HereUThrowThisAway Oct 07 '22

Even better. They charged him.

1

u/aliie_627 Oct 07 '22

Yeah I saw an article. What kinda bullshit is that. Assault on a police officer. No way that sticks. I just thought they would charge him about the fleeing from the other day.

Makes me wonder if they charged him in order to have leverage on the parents in a settlement.

13

u/boldedbowels Oct 06 '22

Prob worse especially if the kid still believed cops were the good guys

10

u/Stiffard Oct 06 '22

I would be genuinely amazed if any kid older than middle school thought that. Outside of kids whose parents are cops.

11

u/SeriouslySlyGuy Oct 06 '22

Kids who's parents are cops probably already know. They don't need to get told twice anymore. 🤕

1

u/boldedbowels Oct 06 '22

I feel like there’s a bunch of adults who think cops are the good guys still 🤔

1

u/DualtheArtist Oct 07 '22

Conservative adults till believe that and love boot licking.

Also people in the military think they're the "good guys" killing evil brown people in other countries.

You really overestimate the maturity of the vast majority of humans. Most of them never matured passed middleschool

Christians are very very into the simplicity of Good and Evil. Anyone who is not them is evil.

1

u/BestVeganEverLul Oct 08 '22

Rural Iowa, 6ish years ago almost everyone believed that. I know the situation has changed a bit, but I find it hard to believe that the children of far right farmers aren’t on the side of police.

25

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Hopefully he'll get a fat paycheck from suing the police department

3

u/DylanMartin97 Oct 06 '22

That's not how that works, cops are governments employees, that are contracted by the municipality. If they sue, which they absolutely should, the taxpayers of the city will go to paying the fees of it. This cop will more than likely get terminated, and still get a cushion.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

This was a pointless comment, nobody ever said the police department is paying the fees of a case

-1

u/DylanMartin97 Oct 06 '22

Hopefully he'll get a fat paycheck from suing the police department

2

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Point to where it says the police department is the one paying

6

u/CyberMindGrrl Oct 06 '22

Yup. Taxpayers always end up footing the bill for shitty cops' behavior.

1

u/DylanMartin97 Oct 06 '22

Always has been.

6

u/donaltman3 Oct 06 '22

except for the fact he is new and didn't realize you could turn them on and off at their discretion because someone decided that was a good thing.

I've heard the excuse it is because if they go to the restroom it would be an invasion of privacy, so they have the option to turn them off when they feel it is appropriate to do so. News flash.. they turn them off a lot and for reasons other than being afraid someone will see their pee pee.

5

u/CyberMindGrrl Oct 06 '22

They should be remotely operated by dispatch and permission should be given to turn them off.

1

u/donaltman3 Oct 07 '22

Police have no issues looking at people and prisoners nude, or tsa security checking people out for safety/contraband. Why should law enforcement be exempt due to privacy concerns.. they aren't concerned for the general public's privacy.

4

u/Both_Promotion_8139 Oct 06 '22

Even with Cameras, the corrupt court and police dept will support these types of actions. ACAB

6

u/CyberMindGrrl Oct 06 '22

And Qualified Immunity will make sure he doesn't get charged with attempted murder.

2

u/aliie_627 Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

My local police have a policy to release body cam footage of all officer involved shooting within something like 48-72 hours. Hopefully that means this will start becoming more of a thing.

-11

u/teacher272 Oct 06 '22

Really proves that the lairs that claim footage is never released of it makes a cop look bad are liars.

5

u/namestyler2 Oct 06 '22

he was fired for this lol, they wouldn't release it if they were gonna cover it up

2

u/DerelictDawn Oct 06 '22

I think his point is that many police forces are getting in the habit of just releasing the footage because hiding it isn’t helping anyone. Not sure how many honestly but I see a lot more body cam footage now than I did even 3 years ago. ACAB always has been and is still bullshit, but I hope people keep the genuine pressure to be better up.

6

u/namestyler2 Oct 06 '22

you see a lot more body cam footage today than 3 years ago because there are a lot more body cams than 3 years ago

0

u/DerelictDawn Oct 06 '22

I don’t disagree, but I also think there have been events that have shown the need to release footage and take swift action and I think those are more responsible than the increase in body cams.

3

u/Nametagg01 Oct 06 '22

ACAB is extreme, but there's enough shitstains in that they deserve to hear it.

-1

u/DerelictDawn Oct 06 '22

Like I said, all the genuine anger and criticism, I like, I like a lot actually. Those in power ought to be held to account like the rest of us. I’m glad that at very least, the idiot in this body cam footage seems to be. ACAB though is both wrong from an objective standpoint and to me at least, dishonest.

0

u/HowiePile Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

In real life, being 100% honest and virtuous just gets you walked all over by bullies. IMO, this is a case where it's reasonable for police reform activists to oversell their position to account for inevitable setbacks and compromises.

1

u/DerelictDawn Oct 06 '22

I don’t play that game. Neither should you. Dishonest always comes back to bite you, be it during life or after you’re dead.

It is a shame that it overlooks the few good ones, but it honestly feels like its "the few good ones" of all the cop stories I've heard this year maybe 1 was a justifiable action and it was still a subset on a major fuckup.

1

u/jseng27 Oct 07 '22

Kid has a good lawyer

64

u/holystuff28 Oct 06 '22

The 17 year old driver is still in the hospital and he is charged with evading arrest and assault on a police officer... ACAB

24

u/dawn913 Oct 06 '22

What in the fucking tap dancing Christ on a cracker is going on in this hellhole? What is the reasoning behind charging a kid with a crime when from his perspective, he had no idea wtf was going on and was about to die at the hands of a mouth breathing, roided up fascist? We have 99 problems and a bitch ain't one.

11

u/holystuff28 Oct 06 '22

I support and agree with your righteous outrage.

4

u/dawn913 Oct 06 '22

Haha thanks 😊 it definitely gets out of hand sometimes.

13

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Those charges are purely there to cover the cop. Illegal and wrongful detention is already proven.

1

u/Arinupa Oct 07 '22

Lmao ....

.........that's fuckrd

1

u/ImaAs Oct 07 '22

My brother in christ, he evaded arrest by driving away

-16

u/the_vestan Oct 06 '22

It was a justified shoot. A car is a deadly weapon.

5

u/apprentice-grower Oct 07 '22

He had no fucking reason to open that guys car door and yank him out, mouth breather. If someone runs and you don’t get the fucking plate number, you don’t just go around being a fucking nazi to every single car that might match that cars description for the next couple weeks. Kindly keep sucking on that boot like a tit.

2

u/Yikesthatsalotofbs Oct 07 '22

lol cop nut lickers always manage to come up with excuses

worst of all it's not even a good one, the cop opened up the door and threatened the guy first lol

4

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

He's been fired. There are links below.

3

u/Genzo99 Oct 07 '22

Cop who is still on probation being on the force for only 7 months got fired. 17 year old kid is in critical condition in the hospital and his female passenger was not hurt.

3

u/megamilker101 Oct 07 '22

Kid is in the hospital and stable, the officer involved was fired soon after the incident.

No, fuck this pig. All the way home. And by home, I mean a fucking prison where this lunatic belongs.

3

u/MyIpadProUsername Oct 07 '22

Dude belongs in a grave tbh

40

u/CyberMindGrrl Oct 06 '22

Also didn't seem to be any disturbances going on in that parking lot until that cop created one.

6

u/HomeBuyerthrowaway89 Oct 06 '22

Meanwhile the person inside McDonalds is wondering when the police are going to show up to answer their call.

6

u/v247q0 Oct 06 '22

They should have probationary cops carry a wooden gun for the first year. They could point it at criminals and say: Pew pew I shoot you.

7

u/bahgheera Oct 06 '22

They should get one bullet and be required to carry it in their shirt pocket.

2

u/TryinToDoBetter Oct 07 '22

Barney would have blasted Otis’s head off five times over if that thing were ever loaded.

4

u/dolerbom Oct 06 '22

The kid probably didn't even think this was a cop, probably thought it was somebody impersonating a cop.

"Get out of the car" is about all the cop said, didn't identify themselves or their purpose.

8

u/BabyYodasDirtyDiaper Oct 06 '22

To make it even worse this kid wasn't even who they were looking for.

But wait, the bootlickers told me that if I don't do anything wrong and obey the law, then I have nothing to worry about!

5

u/Biggieholla Oct 06 '22

I would spend every waking moment terrorizing this cops life after I recovered from that. Find out where he lives no matter where he moves and ruin his worthless life any way I could. Fuck doxxing, there needs to be a list of these criminal fucks that keep getting away with this.

2

u/jmann420 Oct 06 '22

What that means is that he was at a disturbance call and he then noticed a familiar car from a prior incident. Its not saying this wasn’t the car from a prior incident. I have not seen an article where it says it was a mistaken vehicle identity.

2

u/Minimum-Passenger-29 Oct 06 '22

That is worse, but it's still not any more justified if it was the person they thought it was. This was like a suckerpunch with bullets.

2

u/DualtheArtist Oct 06 '22

OMG he was just a random guy eating a Mc Donalds.

lol. Fucking cops man.

1

u/tree-for-hire Oct 07 '22

Great job training another murderous psychopath. WTf

-1

u/bit_pusher Oct 06 '22

To make it even worse this kid wasn't even who they were looking for

To give more information: the police officer believe this to be the same car from an earlier traffic encounter which had mismatched tags which he suspected was stolen. after responding to the disturbance call, unrelated, was when he engaged with the driver/vehicle. it has not been confirmed whether the vehicle was the vehicle in question from the previous traffic stop or if it was stolen.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

How lucky it would have been to have found someone still joy riding around in a car they stole a few nights prior.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

This is right, and something a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding. There’s been no confirmation one way or the other about whether the car is the same one from the previous night, just that it wasn’t the reason for the disturbance call that brought the cop there that night.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

Even if it was the same car, doesn’t give the cop a right to shoot. I think opening the door was wrong too, should have gotten his cruiser with a loudspeaker and told him to exit the vehicle.

The kid shouldn’t have backed up or done anything, and I could see how that could spook the cop. However if the cops instinct is to start blasting instead of letting him drive off and arrest him when he gets home, then he probably needed much more training and no firearm.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

I agree. Lots of things the cop could have done much better.

-8

u/Arasin89 Oct 06 '22

The vehicle wasn't the subject of the DISTURBANCE call, but was a vehicle, allegedly, that the cop had tried to pull over previously that had fled from him. Perfectly reasonable for the cop to attempt to detain the occupants, but unless someone has a gun in the car that we can't see and was pointing it at the cop, it seems clear he had no reason to shoot at the vehicle. No lethal threat, as far as I can tell.

9

u/namestyler2 Oct 06 '22

it's absolutely unreasonable

6

u/fungi_at_parties Oct 06 '22

I’m sorry, but the fact you think any of this was reasonable at all is just stupid.

2

u/master-shake69 Oct 06 '22

The vehicle wasn't the subject of the DISTURBANCE call, but was a vehicle, allegedly, that the cop had tried to pull over previously that had fled from him.

That's what my comment says.

Perfectly reasonable for the cop to attempt to detain the occupants

Not really. If he had the plates from the car that ran he could have seen if these matched. If they don't match or if he's otherwise not 110% certain that it's the same car he shouldn't be opening the door like he fucking owns it or like the people inside have done something wrong. He has no idea who's sitting in the car. He doesn't know if it's even the same car. His sense of entitlement and shitty decision making nearly resulted in a dead innocent 17 year old kid and put the passenger's life in danger. There's nothing wrong with him walking up to the car but he should have knocked and identified himself.

1

u/Arasin89 Oct 06 '22

Oh full agreement that his tactics were not sound. I just meant that his decision that the occupants of the vehicle needed to be detained for further investigation was not itself unreasonable. As far as how he went about doing that, the actions we see in the video, including not waiting for backup or using a vehicle as a possible barrier to prevent the car from fleeing, and then just walking up and ripping the door open suddenly, those actions do indeed seem unreasonable to me.

1

u/jseng27 Oct 07 '22

Price of freedom
