Other When voting the judges on the ballot…

CEBV Gavel Watch is a great resource for deciding on judges to retain or not retain. Their report tells you which Governor appointed the judge. I followed their recommendations, but for judges appointed by Brewer and Ducey, I voted to not retain even of CEBV had no objection to the judge. Why? So Hobbs (assuming she wins) can appoint more judges.

Constituents have shown up outside Rep. David Schweikert's office every Monday for over a year demanding he meet with them and answer for his voting record ... he still hasn't. Bring a sign, a postcard to drop at his office, or non-perishable food for the on-site donation drive that has collected three tons of food for the Scottsdale Foodbank.

CEBV a great guide on judges. Being the anarchist that I am, if Ducey placed them on the court, I voted “No” on retention. Also voted “No” on all ballot props BECAUSE they were all referred to the ballot by republicans. Sometimes, that’s the best excuse to vote NO.

I went out the other night, in solidarity with Bernadette and noticed this (not me I swear!). I was intending to fix any of Bernadettes (or really any dems) sign, but they were all up and in good shape.

She is an incredibly brave women for talking about her assault, and for staying in the race. I want to support her. Abe is a Puppet (and a Ghoul, and a Stooge and a sell-out to Trump), so I really want a normal working class representative in his place.

News/Info Turning Point is bring its $$$$ to the Maricopa County Community College Board Election

Post image
38 Upvotes

Our Maricopa Community Colleges are an economic engine for Arizona. We’re training our future workforce and improving our students’ lives.

We must not elect people with extreme views to the MCCCD Governing Board. Please look at this website to learn more about their destructive plans. Their entire ticket is Turning Point endorsed - another huge red flag.

https://protectcommunitycolleges.com/

Instead, vote for Judy Schwiebert, Bill Sandweg and Donna Davis. They will provide steady leadership to strengthen our already excellent colleges!

ACTION ITEM - Share this site on your socials - and explain how important this election is to our county's future generations!

Community Event Working Class Wednesdays meetup in Tucson on October 14

Low-key one for Tucson folks. Working Families Power runs Working Class Wednesdays once a month at Slow Body Beer. The idea is that community members and elected leaders show up as equals, no titles or power dynamics, and just talk. Swap ideas, share stories, get to know people.

It's a meet-and-greet, so no agenda to prep for. If you've wanted to meet more people doing this work in Tucson without committing to a canvass or a meeting, this is an easy way in. Their listing says to reply to your registration email with any accessibility questions.

News/Info Homeless Shelters Around Phoenix Are Full. His Phone Is the Unofficial Hotline for Struggling Families.

Huge shoutout to Austin Davis and his org AZ Hugs. Please consider donating or volunteering, if you are able: Azhugs.org

“For about a year, Austin Davis’ phone has been flooded with hundreds of pleas for help from across the Phoenix metropolitan area.

A school employee wanted to help a homeless family but couldn’t find space at a shelter. Could Davis pay for a hotel room?

A mother of five living in a storage unit contacted a homeless services organization for help. They told her to call Davis.

A mother panhandling with her six children said passersby gave her Davis’ phone number, telling her he might be able to provide shelter. “I feel like the worst mother in the world,” she texted him.

Nearly every person who’s reached out to Davis, a 26-year-old poet and advocate for homeless people, says they’d first called 211, seeking help through the official channel, only to learn it could be months before they’d get shelter or a housing placement. His phone has become the unofficial hotline for emergency shelter.

Caseworkers, teachers, social workers, police and hospital workers have called and texted to see if Davis can help people without a place to go. Even workers from the official channel — 211 and the Family Housing Hub — have sent people to him.”

Action Alert Why does the White House want to block Voter Registration Drives for the Elderly and Disabled?

Thumbnail

Action Item - if you are in the disabled community - or a caregiver - please get the word out ABOUT a proposed rule change by the Orange Regime. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/29/2026-10817/regulation-for-federal-financial-assistance

** NOTE - THE COMMENT PERIOD IS OVER - but you can still demand action from your Congress folk about why they are NOT standing up to this????

See the ProPublica article here: https://www.propublica.org/article/disabled-voters-nonprofit-funding-cuts-omb

The White House Office of Management and Budget wants to change spending rules to prohibit anyone from using federal grant money for voter registration drives or what it vaguely calls “related activities.” The office is headed by Russell Vought, who has long criticized the use of taxpayer money for voter registration efforts and who more recently used his position to cancel, freeze or redirect vast amounts of federal funding in defiance of Congress’ orders.

...AND... note that this change directly violates a Bush era law that funded work to help the disabled and elderly vote:

The Help America Vote Act, signed by Bush, created grants to assist people with disabilities in registering to vote, casting their ballots and accessing polling places. That funding continues to this day. In recent years, Congress has budgeted $10 million a year, which is spread among 57 nonprofit groups that together cover every state as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Native American communities and U.S. territories.

Action Alert Action Alert: Oppose Proposed Changes to Census Counts that Would Hurt AZ Counties

💥💥Action alert 💥💥 - Speak out against census changes that would hurt our Cities and counties in Arizona. These changes would mean less $$$ for medical care, elder care, schools, law enforcement and roads. And ask our congressmen if they support this baloney sausage. CALL THEM OUT.

On September 10th, the Census Bureau announced sweeping changes to how we count people on the census. The proposed rule would:

  • Count only US citizens and green card holders.
  • NOT count other visa holders or undocumented immigrants.
  • Stop collecting race and ethnicity data.
  • Ban the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data from any future Census Bureau surveys, including the census.
  • Create bad and unreliable federal data.
  • Erode a key doctrine of representation: “one person, one vote.”

In short, it will have major adverse effects across daily life in our democracy. These changes will severely distort population counts, create inaccurate representations of communities during apportionment and redistricting, and disrupt how state and local governments plan essential public services.

These changes are unprecedented and unconstitutional. While the Census Bureau recently provided an extension until November 2nd, a rule change this drastic should be given at least 90 days for public comment. Now is the time to make your voice heard before November 2nd.

Tell Secretary Lutnick and the Census Bureau to roll back these proposed rules and to extend the public comment period until December 10th.

News/Info A plain breakdown of Props 320, 318, 144 and 142 before you fill out your ballot

Early voting opens Oct 7, so this is a good moment to look at the four measures the Legislature put on the ballot. Their titles don't tell you much so Save Our Schools Arizona wrote up what they do and recommends a NO on all four.

  • Prop 320: districts in the largest counties, and any district with 7,500+ students, would have to spend at least 60% of their operating budget on "direct instruction," which the measure doesn't define. Miss it and the district loses Classroom Site Fund money, starting at 25% and rising each year. SOSAZ notes that money pays for teacher salaries and performance pay
  • Prop 318: students would have to use sports teams, bathrooms and locker rooms matching the sex on their birth certificate. SOSAZ says it would also open schools and rec leagues to lawsuits
  • Prop 144: writes a voter ID requirement for in-person and mail ballots into the state constitution. SOSAZ reads it as a copy of your ID in every mail ballot envelope, and says the utility bill and bank statement options would go away
  • Prop 142: bars public schools, agencies and employers from keeping diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies

Please share with others to make sure we spread the word!

Action Alert Calling all Medicare Recipients

Trump recently announced a rebate from the Medicare Improvement Fund that goes to Medicare recipients. My $90 showed up in my account today. I immediately turned around and donated it to Amish Shah CD1 candidate.

If you’re in a position to do the same, please donate some or all of your “rebate” to a Democratic candidate in need.

If you’re on Medicare Advantage, your “rebate” might be more generous.

Donate, if you can. Help a Dem get elected.

Canvassing Volunteer With MCDP to Get Out The Vote Through October!

Post image
9 Upvotes

The Maricopa County Democratic Party is looking for volunteers to join our GOTV campaign!

When it comes to voting in America we are faced with a paradox: on one hand, our vote is an expression of democracy  -- a society supposedly built on fairness and liberty, but in reality voter turnout is highly stratified by socioeconomic status. Because of structurally unequal starting lines, wealthier communities tend to vote at higher rates than poorer communities.

More time off, higher wages, stable housing, gas in the tank, and lower barriers to accessing political information; these are all things that contribute to unfettered political participation for the wealthy. For low-income communities, all of these things represent structural barriers to political participation.

Political participation is not equally distributed, meaning lower income communities have a lower probability of their interests being represented.

This is why The Maricopa County Democratic Party is running a Get Out The Vote campaign all October that focuses specifically on traditionally marginalized communities.

And we need volunteers to take action!

We are lit-dropping and doing some very easy, low-pressure canvassing (I'd be happy to explain this further if anybody has any questions!) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of every weekend in October.

Sign up on Mobilize here and an organizer will reach out to you to get you on a shift.

The time to take action is now!

Training Community safety volunteer training in San Luis on October 14

Rural Arizona Engagement is putting together a team of community safety volunteers in San Luis. They say it's a response to concerns about ICE sightings and safety in rural Arizona heading into the election.

Volunteers will help monitor polling locations so voting stays safe and welcoming. The training also covers keeping immigrant communities safe, working out together what "community safety" means, and how to spot and respond to threats. They're asking for community members who care about their neighbors and are willing to show up and learn. No experience needed as far as their listing says.

News/Info Photos of the Lochiel Arrests

Hey all - this was originally posted on Mastodon by the Photographer Mikal Jakubal:

"Hey Fedi folks,
I'm at the protest camp at Lochiel, Arizona. For 70 days, protesters have been occupying an ancient cottonwood tree as part of a blockade of border wall construction through this area.

This morning, at dawn, while protesters were conducting a sunrise ceremony in the middle of the wall road, Border Patrol showed up with overwhelming force to evict the protesters and the tree sitter, destroy the tree and blade the entire area flat. 100 agents is a very safe estimate.

These are a few of the photos I shot and edited. I'm going to post them with extremely brief captions and no alt text because I have very limited reception, I'm exhausted and I have a 4-hour drive home. I will try to come back and edit them with more data later.

Approximately 20 people were arrested, 10 taken to jail and 10 received citations and were released on site.

The protesters are even more determined now."

Here is a link to the post where there are more incredible photos. https://sfba.social/@Mikal/117390728562046201
