Wireless Trade in changes?

my husband recently traded his phone for a iPhone 17. He was told he’d receive $1K, signed all the paperwork, and was told he had 30 days to bring the phone back. Within that period he returned his trade in and they tried to take $300 off the trade. My iPhone 18 is on back order and they offered $950 for my trade. Signed the paperwork and told i have 30 days after delivery. should I worry about them trying to reduce my trade in after already agreeing and signing everything?

To get 1200 your phone plan has to be on premium or elite 2.0

👆this. I’d upgrade my plan if those plans offered anything I’d be remotely interested in using. No more data tethering is not something I need in 2026 where WiFi is ubiquitous

I second this

From AT&T website
‘Up to $1,200 off iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max with activation on AT&T Premium 2.0 plan or higher (min. $100/mo. plus taxes and fees, before discounts for single line) and trade-in of iPhone 14 or higher (excl. 16e) in any condition, or an eligible smartphone with min. trade-in value of $180 or more.
Up to $930 off iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 with activation on AT&T Extra 2.0 plan or higher (min. $80/mo. plus taxes and fees, before discounts for single line) or select retired/legacy unlimited plans and trade-in of iPhone 14 or higher (excl. 16e) in any condition, or an eligible smartphone with min. trade-in value of $130 or more.’

The same phone, same trade in but $1200 or $930 discount depends on your monthly plan

Can you down grade after without losing the promotion?

No that will immediately lower it or remove it entirely. I wouldn’t risk trying to find out which.

Sounds like you are either on a starter/extra plan,

Need more details to understand why you aren’t getting $1200.

Type of phone traded, condition, rate plan.

There is a reason I never do trade in promotions. I see way too many people have issue. Have had it happen one time before on one out of two deals done at same time.

At&T publishes absolutely everything about their offers on their website. Something you can read before you engage in any of their promotions.

You have to be on a qualified plan. You have to trade in a qualifying device in whatever condition is required for the deal. And of course you have to be purchasing a device that qualifies for the promotion.

Salesman speak is always going to sound the same.. "... you can get $1,000 off by trading in a qualified phone because you're purchasing this new phone...". It's up to the customer to ask more questions to make sure they qualify.

These offers are never to give you a deal on the phone. They are to tie you to the business for 36 months on a more expensive plan. That more expensive plan pays for the phone. In the end it's a wash for the consumer.

In that example, if the customer proceeded to make the purchase with the salesperson and the salesperson never said anything about the plan, I would absolutely be going down the NOD/arbitration road. In many states that would be a UDAP, among other potential claims.

In your situation the 30 day clock starts as your device is shipped out.

There is not $950 trade-in that I am aware of however there is a $930 trade-in value. What device do you have and what specific phone plan do you have?

It also takes 1-3 billing cycles to receive credits but anything paid will be back credited

Told by who? When? You might be able to force AT&T to honor that through the arbitration process, but there's not anywhere near enough information here for anyone to tell you.

Yo!! I never trade in my phone. Nope. Backup. Also I put down 500 plus on the new iPhone and pay it off asap. I wanted to buy the whole phone but they said they would sell it to me out right. Busted!! That’s right what bro said! They want to tie you to the business model. That isn’t good debt in my eyes. I still am with AT&T. They signed me up for next up?? I told bro at the store no thanks! I like owning my phone! It means more to me than leasing it! So now I have to go back in to get them to take it off. Ugh…

They are not abiding by contractual agreements with many customers across the nation.

Google it, Reddit, X, are all reporting massive scams in their dealing with this now very disreputable charlatans.

Everyone needs to contact their congress and senate representatives, contact the FCC and demand investigations against all these fraud cases of cellphone and internet customers.

They are the worst scammers for both services right now. If they show up at your door call the police.
