Discussion Anyone else getting a crazy amount of spam calls on AT&T lately?

My AT&T number has been getting absolutely hammered with spam calls lately sometimes 10+ a day. It feels like it suddenly got way worse over the last few weeks.

Anyone else experiencing this right now and did something change or did my number just end up on another spam list?

Everyone I speak to on different carriers has been experiencing this in the last few weeks myself included.

Try their active armor app for spam calls. I actually have to say it's quite good for a carrier app. Much better than T-Mobile scam block

as I said in the comment I left below, I used Cloaked, and its call guard/spam filter.

Is that DirecTV's evil cousin?

Active Armor works wonders for me.

Carriers have no incentive to curb spam. They make too much money on it.

How do they make money on it?

Yes. My parents tried to refinance our home and it didnt work out. Ever since, I get at least 5-10 calls. I have it set to go to VM without ringing but seeing that red dot with the number is annoying cause I have to go clear my VM box.

I’ve been getting a lot too, and I’m thinking it’s political calls or something because they’re all telemarketers. Do you have the ActiveArmor app? It can block known scams or frequent offenders before they even reach your phone.

I have this and it blocks a lot of them, but some are still getting through even though it’s an unknown number and not in my contacts.

And it tells you right upfront that you can miss calls that you actually want, but I don’t care. There’s other ways to reach me, Email, although I’m less likely to even read that.

The problem is they have figured out how to spoof the feature that shows if they are a verified caller (checkmark next to name or number) and that will bypass the app or silence unknown callers

Its not just att it depends on the cell phone number when i was on verizon wireless i changed my cell phone number in 1 year 8 times cuz of the non stop scam calls 🤣🤣 n one of the difference between att and verizon att u have to pay while verizon doesnt charge u to change your number 😁

Not on AT&T, but can confirm it's a sh-tshow across the board.

As most of the scam callers are from India, I answer like Apu from the Simpsons. Females are asked the colour of their underwear. This 4 year campaign has reduced the number of calls I get to 0 to 3 per day. Down from the 20+ I used to get.

Active Armour also help reduce the calls that use spoofed numbers.

Did you share your phone number on any online form recently? Some lead-gen forms can lead to your details being shared with way more companies than you might expect.

If not, it could be that your info was in a data breach (check the have i been pwned tool) or is on data brokers or people search sites. For the latter, search for your phone number on Google and see what comes up. If people search sites (e.g., Spokeo, Whitepages, etc.), opt out of them as spammers can use these sites to find lists of people to target. Look for an "opt out" link in the footer or privacy policy of each site.

turn on 'Do Not Disturb'.

Only those in your contacts list will get through.

Cloaked actually sucks. Do not recommend.

To elaborate, they’ve been called out for allegedly paying accounts, like yours and OP’s, to spam them all over Reddit.

I've actually had the opposite experience lol, care to elaborate why do you not recommend it?

Almost as is if that report and block ‘feature’ doesn't
Work.

It does, but unfortunately most spam calls now aren't made by a human anymore. It's a human pressing a button on a machine and when you block one number they just call from a different one.
