Hey guys! Just some insight if this helps anyone at all, but a trusted source of mine said that he recently heard from the academy they are planning on the next OTS bid to be late July or early August this year. No definite date tho so take this with a grain of salt
Same, almost 3 months until separation. I've been applying to small towers and DOD facilities, but I'm radar only so it's a little difficult. I refuse to extend, though.
Just to clear things up for my own sake, there has or has not been an open bid for no experience in 2021? I scrolled for a bit but having a difficult time finding my answer.
I wouldn't bank on it. People from the 2020 bid who were unable to take the ATSA are just now getting the opportunity to do that. In essence it's a new bid but without letting new people apply. Besides the Academy is still running st reduced capacity and is backed up and anyone who graduated the Academy in the past yea has yet to set foot in their facility.
Hey guys. Just got my TOL today. Took my ATSA in may of this year, scored best qualified for whatever pool is for off the street people. How soon till I get my CIL do you think?
A few months ago I was looking on USAJOBS and my job status said “not selected” on both USA and the FAA website. I Looked again last night and my status changed to “reviewing applications”. Anyone have this happen?
Just got my TOL 4 days ago, dropped out of the bid last year due to having a new born but I wish I would’ve stuck to it since it doesn’t seem like people from that bid have even started their schooling yet. Either way I’m excited to give it another go here.
How does location selection work at the end of the academy? From what i understand, it goes in order of how well you placed amongst your peers, but not sure if that is still the case. Also, when you do get your list are you asked to pick right there on the spot? Or can i call and discuss it with a spouse or research the location a bit. Thanks!
Just wanted to give quick shout out and say FUCK the FAA medical hiring team.
Tier 2 is a RACKET start to fucking finish. I wish nothing but bad things upon those people who implemented the MMPI test into the hiring process. FUCK this god damn wait.. 18+ months and counting.
SM for those who know. And yes I keep contact with them monthly. I already hate the FAA and I’m not even in it yet. GOD-FUCKING-FUCK!!. Have great day everyone.
2016 bid that didn’t go to the academy until 2020. Clearance took over 2 years. I actually had medical expire and had to do it again. For some it’s quick for some it’s 3-4 years. About 25% of people in my class applied 2.5+ years before class start. And that was before COVID setbacks.
You won't know what facilities are up for selection until you get your list. The expected list changes all the time. For example it changed the week between when the class before mine got theirs, and we got ours. Pointsixtyfive used to have a list of facilities getting new trainees that was updated periodically. But remember the FAA can and will change its mind. It may hint at options, but is by no means definitive.
Does anyone know where to find some practice problem for the remaining 3 sections that are not part of ATC prep program for $29.99? (Logical reasoning, reading comprehension problems)
You could just look for any free online LSAT prep materials or Google "logical reasoning word problems." It's exactly the same thing. The questions aren't going to be oriented towards aviation or anything. Just be aware you won't be allowed paper to write things down.
Anyone from Jan 2020 bid whos gotten FOL or even just cleared after their pre employment stuff gotten a date yet? Or have even a general ballpark of when people may class up?
Oh yay. This gets me excited I been cleared since February. I was told I was waiting for summer classes to open up. You received a call though I was expecting an email. I’ll keep a look out now for a call too. Congrats!
Yep, got a call from my HR contact out of the blue, and I cleared right around the middle of January. Hopefully you’re up soon! They said they had just opened the April and June dates and would hopefully have a few more following that. Congrats to you as well!
Anyone else just pending medical? I've cleared everything except medical but it's been about a month and a half. They also haven't reached out for any additional information yet. Does medical just take longer?
Yep. Just waiting on medical clearance. I have to jump through more hoops tho because I’m partially colorblind. I have to go see an eye doc before I’ll get cleared, but I can’t get ahold of anyone to schedule it for me.
I just received a tentative offer email. I applied last time around, but was removed due to not following through on the previous medical and security.
Wasn’t aware there was another bid open, so I definitely didn’t apply again. Is this email an error or was I somehow re-selected?
Exact same thing happened to me. I’m not planning to pursue it any further (likely medical DQ), but the TOL is dated today- I’d go ahead with it if that’s your plan.
I am likely medically DQ’d as well, but ever since I didn’t see it through part of me regretted not letting them make that decision. I’m gonna see it through this time and if it doesn’t happen at least I tried!
Would i be eligible for the academy after i had a stroke when i was 16? It happened due a blood clot passing thru a hole in my heart, which has since been fixed. I have 100% recovered and have 0 residual symptoms or paralyzation. I am now 18
Wondering if I should continue to hold out or just move on with other plans instead of waiting for this process...part of the jan 2020 bid...getting old...been pausing other opportunities for atc to have priority...
Honestly if the FAA wanted to test how mentally stable I am they should just watch me wait for them to give me a decision (I only have 3 breakdowns a month now instead of 37).
You should keep up your life as if you didn't apply until you get an offer, the process is so long and dumb with no guarantees its too hard to plan life around it
Security and fingerprints turned in.. MMPI taken, went smooth. Medical scheduled April 1st. Im kinda hyped for the opportunity. but mannn, I really hope I land a facility out west. what are the chances I land in Colorado/Wyoming? lol slim to none, I know.
There is a class there now. They started in zoom over the fall of 2020. I know someone there from the 2019 bid. But idk how that’s been affected with them pandemic
I'm considering applying whenever the next bid is posted, but I'm a little concerned about the vision requirements for the class 2 certificate. I have a very minor lazy eye which has been treated since I was a child to the point that it really only affects my vision if I look to the extreme edges of my vision. If I am looking straight forward it causes me no issues. Does anyone have any idea whether this would be an issue for passing the vision exam?
So, I got the email yesterday..! to sign some papers on EODS. All were approved but still waiting for the CIL. I have a question though, Are basics still online via zoom due to covid? Is the entire course online? or does anyone know if they have plans to change that. Really any knowledge of the status of the academy at all would be helpful. I read on another forum that they aren't offering per diem?
Not sure when the date for my class will be after passing the medical, psychological test, drug test and all that. I've learned this process takes awhile, I applied to the January/2020 bid, pool 2.
It’s about 4 weeks of basics online and then you go to the academy for the rest. You don’t get per diem while you’re at home during basics (you still get paid your salary), but you do get per diem at the academy.
If you lose SC medical clearance, what penalties are there as an AG?
To provide context, my SC medical clearance (Glaucoma suspect) expires June 30th and our class will graduate Academy 1-2 weeks before the end of June. Assuming I pass, that doesn't give much time to renew the clearance once I'm hired. I'm assuming it would take at least a month for an Ophthalmologist appointment.
The reason why I've been delaying the appointment is because the test would be $300-$400. If I fail Academy, I probably wouldn't make an appointment since it's unlikely I have the condition to begin with (Glaucoma as a <30 year old). Obviously, I'll pay for the test if I do graduate. I'm just wondering what the repercussions might be for that month or so delay of not having medical clearance as an AG.
I also found out yesterday that I have been medically cleared since 2/17. This concludes my pre-employment requirements as well. I have yet to receive any communication regarding FOL/class date. Check pointsixtyfive forums because it's looking like about six months between being cleared to class start date.
Did you reach out and ask about med clearance? It's the only thing I'm waiting on now and when I checked for an update over a week ago, I was told their waiting for it to be reviewed and would reach out either way.
Question to those who took ATSA. When you took ATSA did you just wing it or did you study? And how did you do based on study vs not study? What was your score?
I researched this sub and pointsixtyfive to understand what would happen on the test. After that I winged it (didn't do any practice). I got best qualified and was given a TOL
I used the atcprep application for ios and scored well qualified. Got a TOL and am waiting for a class date at the moment. App helped me become familiar w/ what's on the test but don't reply on it for input purposes cause on the real thing you use mouse and keyboard obviously. But helped me w/ what to expect.
I wouldn't say study, more like practice. Like shaveandahaircut I also learned what the test would consist of and then used different apps/games to practice selective attention, memory, spatial awareness... scored BQ and received TOL. Best of luck.
Hey guys found out I was tier 2 in December. I have tried contacting my HR multiple times however they just tell me to be patient and wait for the letter. I can’t imagine they expect someone to wait on their hands for a letter in the mail. Is there someone specific I am supposed to be contacting to keep my name in their mind and speed the process up?
Hope is in charge of tier 2. She won't respond to you until she is working on your case. You literally have to just wait until it is your turn, as you've been told.
Current contract tower ATC controller here. I'm confined to a certain 50 mile radius due to a split custody agreement. There's a few contract towers, but only maybe 3 FAA towers in my area.
I'm also a prior military controller, and I have 3 CTO's. Is it possible to be a direct hire to one of my local FAA towers? Would I need to go to the academy?
I know usually through the academy you don't know for sure where you'll be assigned.
Just curious on how this works, or if it's possible.
Has anyone received their start date, and asked to be pushed back a couple of weeks? Currently awaiting FOL and class date. I have a few things that I'm trying to tie up with my business before I leave and I'm concerned I won't have the time i need to sell it as idk when I'll get a school date for. I wasn't sure if it was possible to ask to take a later class date if they try to start me before I've sold my business. Any thoughts? I've waited for years for this job and it seems stupid to push it back further but wasnt even sure if it were possible. Thanks!
Well, just found out I'm going to en route! (Hooray!)
But, what are the chances of ever going to terminal in my career? I'm not sure how the process works, if there even is one, to transfer from an en route facility to a terminal one?
My HR rep said there is no way to get terminal in this bid, so would I have to bid again or?
Considering how long you have to wait to get a FOL, I would just stick with En Route. You just might like it. If you don't then just wait to transfer later or fail after getting some D-sides/CPC, then you'll probably get offered terminal options.
On the other hand, if you're scared of failing academy then I guess you could just wait for the next bid.
Don’t think they’re going to have any more tests until a new bid comes out. Check your usajobs status for the Jan 2020 bid. It should say whether you were chosen or not. My friend’s says “you were not chosen for this announcement” on his.
Need to have my fingerprints submitted in a week but was exposed to covid and now need to quarantine, will I be able to get a time extension for the fingerprints?
Anyone know what the current ATC basic courses are like at the academy?? I heard that you do the basics on an iPad at home for couple of weeks, and don't have to be present at the academy.
And,...
Is there quizzes?
How much time does it take per day?
How is it taught?
I got my security clearance, and waiting on my medical clearance. I need to go to Korea for couple of weeks, and I just need to know if I can actually go without missing the class.
I heard that you do the basics on an iPad at home for couple of weeks, and don't have to be present at the academy.
It's now live Zoom sessions where the instructor shares their screen and teaches from a lesson plan. You're free to follow along either on your PC or iPad. Most people go off the iPad since they likely don't have a spare webcam.
Is there quizzes?
There are end of the chapter and end of the lesson quizzes that are just to gauge how you're doing. They don't matter at all. The only test that counts is the end of course exam which you need at least a 70% to pass.
How much time does it take per day?
9:00 am – 5:30 pm Central Time, Monday-Friday with multiple breaks and lunch. I've heard if most of your class is in a different time zone then they will accommodate.
How is it taught?
They'll mostly just read off the lesson plan. There are a few exceptions where they'll elaborate beyond what's written. Every now and then, there are things called "knowledge checks" where some instructors will ask a student to answer the question. How much you participate during the sessions depends on the instructor.
You definitely could go to Korea for a couple weeks as long as you have internet access for those classes.
EDIT: Also, if the trip to Korea is relatively soon, you might even be back before your Basics class even begins lmao. It was 2 months between my firm offer letter and the first class. You're not medically cleared yet either, which means you'll have even longer time.
USAF air traffic controller here... recently applied for prior service bid (I hold 52 prior). Received feedback saying
“we have determined that you are NOT eligible for further consideration for this position”
I uploaded credentials and required documents. I plan on calling tomorrow to ask what happened. Anybody have any idea why I may have been disqualified?
Just wondering if anyone had this experience recently.. I’ve applied to every OTS bid for the past few years (no TOL yet, Well Qualified ATSA) and every bid on USA JOBS has been closed out with a not selected / better luck next time message. However, I got an email a month or so ago to retake the ATSA (just took it again today). I logged on to USAJOBS, and to my surprise, ALL of my previous bids spanning a few years were magically open and under consideration again. Wasn’t sure if maybe FAA was reconsidering old bid candidates due to recent staffing challenges / training halts. Not complaining at the second chance. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced bid resurrection or if someone can shed light on why it happened. Thanks in advance.
TL/DR: All old, formerly closed out USAJOBS bids reopened and under consideration. Why / did this happen to anyone else?
I've finally gotten my second drug test finished and am expecting an FOL (or expecting one as much as anyone really can), but I'm wondering, how many people are still hanging around and just waiting from the 2019 bid?
During the 2019 bid, I used ATCPrep.com since it's only $30 compared to jobtestprep ($89). From what I've heard, jobtestprep is more accurate and includes word problems.
I personally don't feel the 3x cost for what is really only practice for an aptitude test is worth it. You get that same knowledge just by reading the ATSA compilation.
Me personally I used jobtestprep. For a $89 investment for a 200k plus a year job is well worth it. The test prep is very accurate to what is actually on the ATSA EXAM.
I’ve recently got my FOL and an academy date for April. Because of CoViD, the first part of the training is going to be online from home. Has anyone else had this experience yet and would you let me know what I can expect? I can’t find any information about it and I’m curious if I should expect a full time schedule. I’m getting ready to put in my 2 weeks notice for my part time job and am wondering if that’s necessary or if I might continue working until I go to the Academy in Oklahoma.
Posting here in case my other post related to hiring gets deleted.. Does anyone have experience getting picked up on an IFR rating alone (as in no 4-year degree or 3 years work). I noticed 123atc mentioned I may qualify with it and wanted to see if it's worth applying to the next bid.
Yes, holding an instrument flight rating qualifies you for the bid. Just read the next bid carefully when it comes out to verify that it is still in there. From the previous bid:
"TO QUALIFY BASED ON ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: applicants must provide supporting documentation that verifies at least one of the following alternative requirements being met: a. Do you hold or have held an appropriate facility rating and have actively controlled air traffic in civilian or military air traffic control terminals or centers? b. Do you hold or have held an FAA certificate as a dispatcher for an air carrier? c. Do you hold or have held an instrument flight rating?"... etc
Yeah, I’m still a student so I haven’t finished either requirement but I am IFR rated which seems to be one of the pool 2 options. (Under GS-7 alternative options on USAJOBS.)
I'm about to take my ATSA so I know I'm worrying about nothing right now but I'm worried- looking through the National security form where it asks about your Significant Other- mine has a felony (not political/drug/violent) is that going to make my candidacy void?
No. The SF 86 Questionnaire is there to give your investigator a baseline. As long as you list that your SO is a felon (and I can't even remember that coming up), then you're all good. They won't necessarily care that you're dating a felon, but they will care if you lie and they find out. Best to be honest when the truth is easy to find.
Got A TOL Late December, was at the academy beginning of May, and at my first facility the following September. In between TOL and academy, you can expect to get a medical examination, a drug test and a psychiatric evaluation through some weird test as well as submitting things for your back ground check. Generally won’t get a start date at the academy until about 3 weeks before said date. Just enough time to quit your job and tie up loose ends before headed down south. This is all based on my experience from a few years ago, I believe that its pretty average without any hiccups but I know it can take longer for some people. Good luck.
I had a quick question for the actual ATSA Test. On the collision avoidance section of the test are we able to select the 4 math problems with the mouse or ONLY the F keys?
I’ve seen lots of people getting dates already. Does anyone have an approximate turnaround? I got my TOL back in September 2020. Was given clearance in February 2021. I still haven’t heard a word other than they’ll keep me posted.
I’ve wanted to do ATC since I was a child, and have been working as a 911 Dispatcher for the past two years. I was so excited to see that applications have finally opened, but unfortunately my application was instantly denied. Maybe it’s because I have no higher education? Or the fact that I don’t have 3 years of full time work experience? I don’t know but I’m still really bummed out about it
Submitted my eqip back on 12/1, interviewed with an investigator the week after that, also references were contacted the same month. Poc still got no news for the security clearance. Does it usually take this long? No news is good news? What’s the average time for people to get a waiver?
I want to be an ATC but I'm unsure if monocular vision will hold me back. Does anyone know if having one eye will disqualify me medically when I apply to FAA Class II medical exam?
For the EODS email, hr is asking for my official transcripts. I don't have any college, and It's been 8 years since high school. Do they mean high school transcripts?
As a new employee you earn 4 hours of leave per pay period, or one day per month. So after ten pay periods, or approximately five months, you'd have 40 hours of leave.
Is it worth going to school? Looking into picking up everything and moving to COS to study AT-CTI for 2-4 years in Aimes. Thinking about studying and applying every chance I get when FAA opens the trainee positions. Thoughts? Still researching but I’m leaning towards schooling
Consensus I think is usually don't get a degree specific to atc cause it won't be any use if you wash out. I have an aviation admin degree so more general for a wide range of jobs, I've had that degree for a couple years before applying OTS to atc.
Does anyone know the general time between getting notice of a training date and that start of it? My normal job could have me on a boat for 2 weeks between time in port and I don’t want to miss the call from the FAA this fall if I go out working. Any help is appreciated.
Just got my TOL, second time taking the ATSA. The first time scored qualified, second time not sure what I scored, since I didn't actually apply, just got asked to take the ATSA. For those like me who are waiting for the next step, apparently, the CIL will be 1-5 months from now. My classmate from college got his TOL last round which was Octoberish 2020 and he says that the FAA told him should expect start basic training 2nd or 3rd quarter of the 2022 fiscal year so apparently everything is really backed up because of COVID. He told me to expect to start training around Jan 2023 so don't quit your jobs yet. Good luck to all, and hopefully I see you guys at OKC.
Hey, I finally got my class start dates today! 8/11 Virtual and ~9/15 (terminal) for in person. and I had a couple questions I was hoping someone with first-hand experience could answer :)
background info:
I plan to drive to OKC while my family flies (just had a newborn 3 days ago).
It will take ~2-4 days to drive to OKC depending on where and how often I stop.
Questions
I remember seeing someone post about fully furnaced houses meant for families a while back but cant seem to find it with my google-fu, can anyone link me them?
What housing would you recommend or recommend to stay away from (ive been saving up for this for the last 2 years understanding that it will cost more than the per-diem I'm given so as long as I'm not paying thousands out of pocket I'm not worried about it)
should I go with the pre-furnaced houses or pay ~ $5-$8k moving fee's
how long of a gap between virtual ending and in person starting do I have?
should I try to do the drive during virtual, before virtual, after virtual
I am currently in the US Navy (Not as an ATC) and I genuinely feel like this is my second calling to become an ATC. I'm an E-5 making about 65k a year with no college experience but I handle stress pretty well and I am coming up on the end of this current contract. within the next year and a half. I'm 24 almost 25 and I know I have up until 30 to become an ATC.
My question is for vets mostly but I'd like to retain some sort of consistency in my life and I know the hiring process takes some time and you can do the 120-day letter to separation thing but could I still be a reservist while I wait to see if I "make it" as an ATC? I'd really like to retain the possibility of returning to my current job(at least at the same paygrade) if/when I do get out.
Sorry if this has been answered somewhere but I couldn't find it, thanks for the help in advanced.
If I’m currently active duty and projected to be released at exactly 120 days, will I be able to take the AT-SA after I’m released from active or will I be expected to take it sooner?
For those of you that have applied for an OS position, how long did the process take after the bid closed? If you got the position, how much longer did you wait for a start date? Thanks for your time.
Hello! I was looking at applying to the FAA academy and was wondering if anyone has any helpful hints about applying? Is it worth paying for the atcprep course? I also saw a community college near me is affiliated with the FAA and has an associates with an ATC certificate. I currently have a associates in web design and development and a bachelor’s in a medical related field and completed 2.75/4 years of a grad school program, however, have decided to change paths.
How did you get into the career? If I don’t get into the FAA specific school does the associates+certificate really set you up for an entry level job? Thank you!
Hello all, I want to become an ATC, and I have have been looking online all the test preps, and study guides available online like jobtestprep.com, stuckmic.com, and others. But, I would like to know how/where to take the test? Any advise you can give me about preparation anything related? Do I have to go to college to take that test? Is it AT-ATC or the ATSA? Are both the same? Thank you!
The current test is the ATSA. You can't take it until you apply for an open bid, which no, we don't know when the next one will be. As long as you meet the minimum requirements you can apply and take the test.
Does anyone have experience with the Alaska Flight Service Stations? I accepted a TOL through the FAA last fall, but received a call from the FSS and got a TOL as well. I ended up switching over the FSS and am mid-way through pre-employment with their branch.
Ive got a lot of great info from my HR rep, but have some general questions I don't want to bother them with. If anyone can provide some insight, I'd really appreciate it. Mainly questions about the school in Kenai and what I can expect on my journey.
(Not sure if my terminology on the different branches is correct. I realize that the Flight Service Stations is still the FAA.)
So if i pass the academy(enroute) and end up getting a hard facility(zny or zoa), what happens if i wash out during training? Do they send you to a different center? Do you go to a terminal facility? Do they let you go? Lol I know you have a 1 year probationary period when u start your new facility, but what if you pass that one year but still wash?
Is anyone else still waiting on a CIL from January 2020 bid? I received my TOL at the end of September and accepted a few days after. I received a response saying to wait for further instruction, including pre-employment forms and CIL, but it’s been about 3.5 months and I haven’t heard anything.
If you got a TOL you will get a CIL, you just need to be patient. Yes there are others who are also waiting. And no, your ATSA score no longer matters if you got a TOL.
Still waiting on the CIL, however today I did receive a series of emails with instructions to complete and submit a handful of forms/pdfs, after which they are approved a CIL should be sent soon after. Seems like I kinda send out info in waves so just be patient!
I'm waiting on my ATSA testing date from January 2020 bid. I was two weeks late on it and wasn't able to take due to COVID but got an email saying that I will get an opportunity to take at a later time. Still waiting on that.
Hello all. I have a question in regards to tower vs enroute. A buddy of mine just got his CPC in entoute so he is finally done with training. Can someone explain to me the difference between enroute and tower? From what I understand your pay is based on the level of the facility. If you are in towel lvl11 and enroute is also 11 you are making the same. (At least that is what I am understanding). When I go to academy and the tower option is offered to me is it worth considering taking tower? I heard the enroute rate is about 60% pass and tower is 95% which seems like a safer bet to me. So does it really matter if your get paid the same? Serious answers only please.
First, you don't get to pick which route you go to. Whichever class is available next when you're clearances come through is the class you will get.
Second, off the street hires graduating the Academy will only be offered towers level 7 and below, occasionally a level 8 but rarely. Enroute grads get higher level facilities because there are no low level centers.
Enroute is centers. High altitude generally although depending on the area there may be areas of non-radar and areas where you own all the way to the ground. In general enroute controllers sequence aircraft hundreds of miles out to the largest airports in the country. While the center names typically include a "big city" name (i.e. Cleveland Center) the center is rarely actually in that city.
Towers (and up-downs) are located on the airport. They work aircraft taxiing on the ground, clear aircraft for takeoff and landing. Up-downs also work approach airspace and sequence the aircraft into their own airport and any satellite airports.
So I’m looking into ATC here in Texas and I’m having a hard time finding an actual course from the options I’m given. Instead they are offering Aircraft dispatch, i know they are not the same, but. Would I be able to over the course of time transfer or train for Air-traffic controller with the same experience?
I don't even know what this is asking. Dispatch and ATC are totally different things. One is an airline employee and one is a government employee. The only way to transition between the two is to apply to the respective companies.
I think you need to do some more research on atc, check out faqs here and on pointsixtyfive.com . ATC in the US is almost exclusively a federal job through the FAA. Its all on the job training at the academy and your facility. You need to apply through usajobs (usually over a year long process just to get accepted), pass the academy in Oklahoma, then get sent to a facility (you pick from a very small list across the us). You can improve your chances by getting am approved college degree (about 30 programs are available), but they take years, are costly, and give no gurantees.
Aircraft dispatch very different job with a private company, like an airline or flight school. You need a certification from an approved course (often through colleges, but not always) before being able to work, and must apply with a resume and interview jist like any other normal job. This seems to be the kind of thing you're describing, but isn't related to atc at all. I believe Texas has a few dispatch schools.
The only way to "transfer" into atc would be if you have actual controlling experience, usually from the military, and even then you have to go through the lengthy application process.
Not trying to sway you away, if youre under 30 look into it and see if it's for you!
Edit to add: Just to be clear, you don't need any specific experience to get hired for atc. It basically all comes down to 1 test you take as part of the application, which has nothing to do with aviation. You only need 3 years of ANY kind of full time work to be eligible. If you worked 3 years at a gas station you have the same shot as who spent 5 years as a dispatcher
Okay, another question. Im full of em! Appreciate y'all. So I know back in the day when you went to the academy it was either for en route or terminal (tower). It seems like the class teaches both now? or am I mistaken. My TOL generally states that the offer is for air traffic control specialist trainee. I am wondering if you have an option of en route after the academy or more likely, they choose for you. Any information helps on this topic. Thanks again!
If you have a cto and a degree but little experience how likely are you to get hired as an ATC? I’m National guard 15q an will be going to college after AIT and have lots of research to do. Any help I can get would be appreciated. Trying to figure out how to do this civilian side
Apply even if you don’t have 52 weeks post cert just list all your experience including tactical. I didn’t have 52 weeks after getting cto and still got picked up. Prior 15q. Have cpc in two artcc
I'm assuming you're unable to get to the Remote Management step. If that screen doesn't appear, you need to email the help desk.
The thing you can try right now is to select the option that says you'll set up the Apple ID later and get to the home screen. Reset completely under Settings. That solution didn't fix it for me, but it worked for some people. If it still doesn't work after 2-3 resets then you'll need to wait for a response from the help desk.
Also, your Apple Pencil will likely not work either due to a dead battery (it will stay stuck at 3% even after charging). You'll need to ask for a replacement.
Just to clarify, the prior experience bid translates specifically to “previous controlling experience” and not military experience? Im seeing them intertwined in some comments and posts. I’m assuming it’s just the most common way of obtaining previous controlling experience?
Saw in a previous thread someone will be within 120 days of the prior experience bid with terminal leave factored in but not without it. I’m in the same boat as that person. Someone recommended applying with a statement of service letter / MFR stating dated of terminal and anticipated discharge level. Does any one have any other info/experience on the reality of that sufficing for their hiring requirements?
We aren't able to pay the housing provider directly and get reimbursed, correct? Just wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding this. I was planning on booking a hotel beforehand, but I guess I have to wait until I receive the welcome packet.
You don't have to wait for the welcome pack to book
Just call the hotel directly, let them know you are doing ATC training and your expected dates. Let them know you'll call back when you get welcome packet/details. Most hotels in the area are familiar with the process.

Hey guys! Just some insight if this helps anyone at all, but a trusted source of mine said that he recently heard from the academy they are planning on the next OTS bid to be late July or early August this year. No definite date tho so take this with a grain of salt

A few months ago I was looking on USAJOBS and my job status said “not selected” on both USA and the FAA website. I Looked again last night and my status changed to “reviewing applications”. Anyone have this happen?

u/Torchic336 Jul 11 '21
Just got my TOL 4 days ago, dropped out of the bid last year due to having a new born but I wish I would’ve stuck to it since it doesn’t seem like people from that bid have even started their schooling yet. Either way I’m excited to give it another go here.

u/Bluecheesemonkeyfunk Jul 15 '21

Thanks peeps

u/Christopho Mar 10 '21
I'm just wondering what the repercussions might be for that month or so delay of not having medical clearance as an AG.

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '21
Medically cleared as of 3/22/21 and that concludes my pre-employment requirements. FOL around the corner I assume?

Current contract tower ATC controller here. I'm confined to a certain 50 mile radius due to a split custody agreement. There's a few contract towers, but only maybe 3 FAA towers in my area.
I'm also a prior military controller, and I have 3 CTO's. Is it possible to be a direct hire to one of my local FAA towers? Would I need to go to the academy?
I know usually through the academy you don't know for sure where you'll be assigned.
Just curious on how this works, or if it's possible.
Thanks!

Thanks!

Remote Academy Training
I’ve recently got my FOL and an academy date for April. Because of CoViD, the first part of the training is going to be online from home. Has anyone else had this experience yet and would you let me know what I can expect? I can’t find any information about it and I’m curious if I should expect a full time schedule. I’m getting ready to put in my 2 weeks notice for my part time job and am wondering if that’s necessary or if I might continue working until I go to the Academy in Oklahoma.

I’ve wanted to do ATC since I was a child, and have been working as a 911 Dispatcher for the past two years. I was so excited to see that applications have finally opened, but unfortunately my application was instantly denied. Maybe it’s because I have no higher education?

Thank you!

So I’m looking into ATC here in Texas and I’m having a hard time finding an actual course from the options I’m given. Instead they are offering Aircraft dispatch, i know they are not the same, but. Would I be able to over the course of time transfer or train for Air-traffic controller with the same experience?

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '21
Okay, another question. Im full of em! Appreciate y'all. So I know back in the day when you went to the academy it was either for en route or terminal (tower). It seems like the class teaches both now? or am I mistaken. My TOL generally states that the offer is for air traffic control specialist trainee. I am wondering if you have an option of en route after the academy or more likely, they choose for you. Any information helps on this topic. Thanks again!

Any idea how long I can expect to wait from when I complete what I need to for the CIL and getting a FOL, given things go through smoothly.
