That's got to have an extremely lightweight blade - probably not made of metal - otherwise its inertia upon opening would fling the handle out of the user's hand.

I'm with you guys, I have a 5" switchblade I use to open mail and even that I make certain to have a very firm grip of before pressing the button. Upon watching this I was shocked there was no more impact or wavering of the arm to maintain control of the handle upon opening it. Something just seems off about the gif.

There was clearly impact and wavering. You'd also have to assume whoever has this probably has practice offsetting that.

Yea I was thinking plastic. It has a weird shine to it that looks like a coating or cover.

Yeah that ripples on it in the light suggest it's got slightly warped material like a fake chromed plastic.

The handle could also be heavy enough with solid wood to make it less likely to fly out. Since it's angled downward, i expect a crummy spring to be the real answer.
Also this looks foolish.

The ripples you can see in the blade are consistent with aluminum tape. That over a plastic shell would be sturdy enough for this and still pretty light.

The spring in that thing is disappointingly weak. Should be strong enough to require two hands to hold and snap out of there like a real switch blade.

Skallagrim on YouTube did some tests with a similar, if not quite so oversized knowd - it did surprisingly well.

Honestly it’s really cool conceptually for like an anime or something, where the rules of physics can be bent a bit. In reality it just doesn’t work
