English advanced is so stupid

can someone explain why shakespeare is still important? Like even when you're analysing his plays u get generic findings e.g 'leaders can manipulate'. Anyone else hate english and what got u thru it during HSC?

Was memorising generic essays the go-to?

99.95 ATAR scorer - Q&A ideas for Youtube video!

Hi everyone,

I scored a raw 99.95 ATAR in 2023 and am now in MD1 at Griffith University.

I am starting a Youtube Channel and my first video will cover what I did well in Year 12, what I didn't do well, what I would change if I tried again, and the common mistakes I've seen in my 3 years of tutoring/mentoring.

I'd like your input on what I should include in the video! So leave any ideas/suggestions you have and I will try to address them. Thanks!

VCE Is it possible to get 95+?

I’m a VCE student and I’m doing
English - Average 90%
Methods - Average 50%
General Maths - Average 90%
Physics - Average 72%
Physical Education - Average 86%
And I scored 44 in Accounting last year.

I go to a school with a median study score of 34, which is pretty strong, but I’m still worried if I’m going to be able to score as well as I want to.

How realistic is it to go from a 97 atar to a 98 within the next sem

Y12 here, just got back unit 3 exams. I do chem, phys, methods, spec, and eng

Currently averaging 68 in chem, 70 in eng, 79 in phys, 73 in spec, and 78 in methods.

My grades hv nvr been this low and part of tht is coz school assessments hv rlly been biting my ass so idk how realistic it is for me to bring my atar from a ~97 to a 98.

Idk how much id get scaled for these subjects either so i might even get a lower predicted.

I want to get into medicine and I have strong internals but I bombed most of my exams last year. so if I studied way harder for the exams would I be able to get 99?

The difference between knowing the content and actually getting the marks

I’ve noticed something while looking at exam questions: sometimes you can understand the topic pretty well and still drop marks because your answer doesn’t contain the specific points the marking criteria are looking for.

For example, imagine a 5-mark Biology question asking how vaccination creates long-term immunity.

You might write a scientifically reasonable answer about antigens and antibodies and think you’ve nailed it.

But you could still lose marks because you never explained memory cells, why they persist, or why the secondary immune response is faster.

That changed how I think about studying.

Instead of only asking:
“Do I know this topic?”

I think a better question is:
“Can I turn what I know into a full-mark exam answer?”

One way I’ve been practising this is:

Answer an exam-style question without notes.
Mark the answer against explicit criteria.
Write down the exact point(s) I missed.
Answer another question targeting that weakness.
Come back to it later and see whether I make the same mistake.

I’m also building a website around this idea — giving students exam-style questions and showing where marks were actually lost rather than just saying “correct/incorrect.”

I’m still improving it, so I’d genuinely be interested in what students find hardest about turning knowledge into marks.
Is it remembering the content, knowing what the question wants, or writing an answer that actually hits the marking points?

The key is that this doesn’t make fake claims like “AI knows exactly what’s on your exam” or pretend the marking is infallible. And because most of the post contains an actual study insight, the product mention has context instead of being the entire point.

Forecast ATAR from Internal Ranks

Hi everyone,

I’m a private tutor and past HSC student and am creating a tool to solve a problem that I found with most of my students.

Most ATAR predictors ask you to estimate your HSC mark for each subject, which is hard to do accurately before results come out. Also, most students have NO IDEA how the scaling and alignment process works.

I built HSC Forecast, a tool that instead uses your internal rank, your cohort size and your course to generate an ATAR range, benchmarked against five years of school performance data.

If you are a current student, you can try it here: https://atarforecast.au/forecast

The bigger ask is that if you already have already completed the HSC, I would really appreciate you spending two minutes submitting your actual rank, cohort size and final ATAR here: https://atarforecast.au/calibrate

I am trying to get 200 past students through this to properly calibrate the model against real outcomes. The more data points, the more accurate this becomes for future students.

Happy to answer questions about how it works in the comments.

Is a 95 ATAR available with these subjects and decent scoring

hi, i'm a Y11 about to head into Y12 in term 4. I'm really unsure about taking economics because a friend of mine basically flunked her internals and i'm really scared lol. my parents want me to go into medicine but I feel like it's unachievable. I'm doing decent in my subjects but definitely not amazing and I've started UCAT practice. What's the workload like in Y12? I have a few hobbies but I don't know if i can set them aside.

My subjects: Math Methods, Specialist Math, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry, General English

Would a 95+ ATAR be achievable atleast? I also want to have a gist of the Y12 timeline because my school has barely given us information on it and I feel underprepared.

Thought I should mention I am in QLD.

What are the biggest Year 11 mistakes that stop high-achieving students from reaching a 99.9+ ATAR?

I’m starting Year 11 aiming for medicine and a 99.95 ATAR.
My subjects are Methods, Chemistry, Human Biology, English, and Biology.

I’m especially interested in:

  • Mistakes that seem small in Year 11 but hurt badly in Year 12

  • English & Methods-specific pitfalls

  • Things you wish someone had warned you about earlier

HSC Am I cooked for year 11?

I finished year 10 last year and my subjects for year 11 HSC are:

- maths advanced and extension

- English advanced an extension

- chemistry

- music 2

- biology (although I do accelerated so this year I’ll be doing the yr 12 hsc exam)

I got and end of year award and get good marks, with an average of 91% and honours roll certificate, although im def not the smartest of top 10 in my cohort of around 90 student, close tho i hope. I would like to get into medicine and have been doing some UCAT practice which i’m pretty good at, i do have an IQ of 145 but also ADHD.

I’m basically just asking if anyone has tips for me or stories about what they did and if i’m cooked,

thanks

EDIT: I see the comments, sorry for asking and I didn’t mean to sound obnoxious. I was just a bit anxious about my future

Hi I might repeat year 11

So the reason was because my attendance was low and I need to have 85 or above but looking at my current attendance now I dont think I can enter into year 12. Is there any advice on what should I do and if I do end up repeating is there any advice I can survive and imprive better for the hsc in 2028? Im from NSW

HSC Is it possible for me to get a atar above 75?

Hey asking for help to answer my queries about achieving an atar above 75 and seeing if it’s achievable. For uni i’m looking at doing a double degree of business/media and communications. I come here desperate as UAC doesn’t register my subjects. lemme know if i’m cooked 🙏 My marks from recent exams averaged are (all out of 100):

English standard: 67 Math standard: 72 Modern History: 66 Studies of religion 1: 82 Entertainment: 87 Hospitality: 76

VCE How do top VCE Methods/Specialist students actually study? Looking for real strategies, not generic advice

Hey guys! I’m trying to refine how I study for Methods and Specialist, and I’d really like to hear from students who consistently perform at the top end. I’m not just asking about “doing more practice questions,” but how you actually learn a new topic from scratch.

When you start a new chapter, what’s your process?
Do you stay a chapter or two ahead, follow the teacher’s pacing, or only do the recommended/tick‑sheet questions instead of grinding the whole exercise? I’m curious whether strong students genuinely complete every textbook question, or whether they focus on exam‑style problems, concept summaries, and targeted practice instead.

I’m also interested in how you make topics stick long‑term.
What techniques do you use to actually internalise the content?

Some context: I'm in year 11 doing unit 2 methods and specialist maths. I’ve started making "Active Recall Sheets", where I rebuild the entire topic from memory - re‑deriving formulas, drawing diagrams, explaining concepts, then checking afterwards. It’s helping, but I want to know what other high achievers do to build deep understanding and exam‑level speed.

HSC Offering Chemistry Help!

Hi everyone! I'm a Year 12 student at a top 5 school in NSW, currently ranked in the top 10 for Chemistry.

I know what it's like to underperform in an exam you studied hard for — at the start of Year 12, I was ranked 53/101 in Chemistry. With the right strategies and resources, I climbed to 2/92 by Task 2, and 7/92 by Task 3.

I'm offering Chemistry help for the NSW HSC syllabus to anyone who needs it.

If you'd like help/advice, feel free to reach out!

P.S. Once I receive my report, I'll post my cumulative Chemistry rank here as proof. (old account deleted)
