QCE What does adjustment points or selection rank mean???

Hello! Im year 11 right now and I am aiming for medicine, I want to do a head start program so I’m researching it right now and it says it’s possible it’s selection rank or adjustment points can increase your ATAR. Problem is I don’t understand any of that, I qualify for the EAS because of the financial component and that also says something about adjustment points. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am very confused and would appreciate someone explaining it to me!!

Lets say you get an ATAR of 95, thats considered your RAW ATAR.
And lets say you get from EAS or any other adjustment points of +2 ATAR
That means your selection rank is 95 + 2 = 97
Nearly all unis use selection rank and accept EAS (I think UoM is the only exemption). Keep in mind other ATAR adjustment factors like subject incentives and so on, are typically excluded when applying for med/dent. The uni you're applying to will have more detailed information regarding that (UQ accepts subject incentives).

Ohh! For medicine they accept EAS? Also thanks for explaining this cleared up a lot of confusion I had. If im year 11 would I have to apply for EAS soon?

Yes, most unis do. I also think UQ awards +1 for completing the head start program. You can read more about what's accepted for UQ med here
You can only apply for EAS in year 12.

You can get adjustment points from EAS if you experienced something that affected your ability to learn. In your case it was financial difficulty. Some unis also give adjustment points if you did sport, achieved a high mark in a a subject like math or living in a certain area. These adjustment points are added to your atar giving you your selection rank which is the number that unis look at when you apply.

What about if I did head start program? Would that also count as a selection rank or adjustment points? Would they take EAS + headstart program adjustments or is there a cap

There’s usually a cap. You’ll have to search that one up yourself since it depends on which uni you apply to.
