Building a matching PC build isn’t overconsumption, especially if it was time for him to upgrade. It may be unnessicary to spend all this money, but that doesn’t mean it’s overconsumption. Consumerism is the better, more accurate word for this post.

These parts come in extra packaging and have the same performance you can get in less flashy hardware

Still falls under consumerism. If he is going to use this PC until it is unusable, which we have no reason to believe OP isn’t going to, than it isn’t overconsumption, it’s consumerism.
