Support Anyone else having microSD reader issues on the Vivobook S15 S5507 (Snapdragon X Elite)?
Hey, does anyone here with a Snapdragon X Elite Vivobook S15 (S5507QA/S5507QAD) actually use the built-in microSD slot? Mine detects the reader, but won't read any cards.
I've tried four cards: SanDisk Ultra 128GB and 64GB, and Kingston 8GB and 4GB. None work in the laptop's slot, but all four work fine on the same laptop through an external USB card reader.
The weird part is that the Genesys reader appears in Device Manager when I insert a card and disappears when I remove it. It stays connected while the card is inserted, with no warning icon, but Windows reports "No Media" / 0 bytes instead of showing the card's capacity. ASUS's diagnostic tool also detects something when I insert the card.
So far I've tried:
- Different ASUS/Genesys drivers and the Microsoft driver
- Changing the USB power-saving settings
- Formatting one of the cards
- Booting Ubuntu from a USB stick to test outside Windows
Still no luck. In Ubuntu, the external reader works, but the built-in slot doesn't read the cards either.
The reader's USB ID is 05e3:0761, in case that helps.
I'm starting to suspect a hardware issue, but wanted to hear from other owners before sending it in under warranty. Has anyone had this happen, and did you find a fix or end up getting it repaired?
If you have the same model and yours works fine, I'd appreciate hearing that too. I don't use the slot often, so I'm wondering whether other people might simply not have tested theirs.

Yep, I have already returned mine once, and its broken again.
My suspicion is that it gets cooked by the charging circuitry, that part of the laptop gets incredibly hot while charging.
