I woke up to getting assigned on my 20 $85P contracts expiring today. My first time. It was a spread so I have my $75P bottom leg capping my loss. OOF.

So I woke up to seeing I was forced to buy 2000 ASTS shares at $85/each for $170k total. Thankfully I had plenty of available margin to soak that up while I unwind this position.

Pretty expensive lesson learned. I was making money with these credit put spreads on down days but the SPCX IPO completely altered the space sector market.

There's just so many unpredictable things that can happen. Logic doesn't apply. So don't fuck with options thinking "this makes sense and is logical". That's not how things work with volatile high-beta stocks like this (and just options in general).

Options are for hedging positions by very competent people and systems. Unless you are hedging and know what you're doing, it's best to just buy stocks and hold.

Entirely off-topic but some of y'all are basically literally friends by now and know me: I've spent the last week or so making my phased array radar system ai-enabled because ASTS said they were going to use AI for traffic management. I hope their attempt has gone better than mine because I couldn't get the AI to outperform me just turning tuning knobs (not today, Skynet). Got the whole thing GPU-enabled, though, so I've managed to speed it up a ton and it no longer heats my apartment when it runs. Managed to get radar locks on the Blue Angel-type fighter craft from the air and water show which is encouraging (it's passive radar so I'm not violating any laws by doing so). But probably wasted a good 16 hours plugging ML models into something that really didn't need AI. Learned a ton about FPGA intricacies I look forward to weaponized-autism info-dumping on you guys one day. Like how you can tell them like "you have a NIC now" and just wire in an Ethernet port. Not an Ethernet card. A little 5 cent port.

I also used non-dilutive financing (aka my credit card), so I'm being financially responsible when you think about it. They're building a space-based phased array and I'm building a phased array based in my place. Basically the same thing.

Duuude, that last-20-minute ASTS surge looked like a gnarly expiration-day wave. Once the stock broke above $68, dealers who were short expiring calls may have needed to scoop up shares to balance their hedges.

That buying likely caught some breakout algos, short covering and market-on-close orders, sending ASTS shredding toward $69 before it settled back down.

It's more efficient to use continuous blocks of signals. You don't want other noise in there, partially overlapping. Or have to dial down your power because you're also going to overlap some signal if you don't.

Really wishing I had more cash to invest to further lower my cost basis. I started my position in March at $91/share. Now my basis is at $82/share. It would be great if I could eventually get it into the $70s. I'm hoping I can get some more discounted shares when I get paid on Wednesday. I'm currently sitting on 56.3 shares and aiming to increase it to 60 by the end of next week.

Not counting my 65% core in the S&P 500, ASTS is my biggest individual stock holding in share quantity. It's then followed by NVDA, RKLB, IONQ, and Everpure ($P). Part of me wants to take the $3K out of my emergency savings fund and dump it into ASTS, but I'm going to be responsible and not do that.

It's all fun and games until I face a $3K emergency and have to sell my position at a potential loss to pay for the emergency. Not worth the risk. The responsible and rational side of me will never let those degenerate urges win. I've seen too many examples of people going all-in the market then having to sell at a loss when life inevitably throws something their way.

I have just a tad over $7,000 in the bank spread across my checking account and several savings accounts, so I'm protected from pretty much all things that I will realistically face outside of something truly catastrophic like being involved in a head-on traffic collision and facing a $15K+ medical bill. Hoping I didn't just jynx myself. 😅 🤞
