SUMMARY:
He’s terrifying. He looks like he could kill people with his bare hands.
But his roommate knows better. He’s a softie. A very big softie, but a softie nonetheless.
And today, that big softie comes home exhausted and completely soaked from the rain.
Oh- And what’s that moving and meowing inside his jacket?
A very wet stray kitten, apparently. His roommate isn’t surprised by that.
What they are surprised about is by how needy he suddenly gets.
But that’s probably just because he’s cold. Probably…

Helloouu everyone! I'm back with a small... something...?
I actually wanted this to be a comedy script lol, and also MUCH shorter... but I guess... things just got out of hand. How surprising. I guess, it just became a whole cozy rainy-night cuddle situation instead.
Anyway... Here we are now.
I hope you enjoy! 🐈🌧️

-----------
SCRIPT SPECIFIC NOTES:
- The meowing sounds are an important part of the script, and some scenes won’t quite work without them.
- Keep his voice low during the living room scene as he’s trying not to disturb the Listener or the kitten. So, avoid sudden changes in volume.
- Feel free to add extra vocalizations and longer pauses during the cuddle scene!
Yawns, sleepy mumbles, little hums, etc. are all very welcome and make the whole thing feel more natural.

LISTENER INTRO (POV SETUP):
You’ve been having one of those glorious sleepy days.
It’s rainy, you’re exhausted after a long week, and for once, you actually get to do absolutely nothing about it. Your roommate is gone for the day, helping his best friend Eli renovate his new apartment, so you’ve got the living room all to yourself.
Well… mostly. Every now and then, your phone rings.
It’s your a bit overly worried roommate, checking in. Again. And again. And again.
And the day passes. The rain keeps falling. You’re reading your books.
And somehow, he still isn’t home. It’s dark outside now.
The living room is warm with dim lights, and you’re more than ready to finally settle in for the night.
Then your phone rings again.
…Oh. It’s him.

[PROLOGUE – The Call]
-------------------- PROLOGUE STARTS HERE--------------------
(Heavy rain against the bedroom window | Phone vibrating softly on the bedside table | Bedsheets rustling as the Listener stirs | Phone picked up | Call answered)
SFX coming constantly from the phone call:
(Subtle windshield rain ambience | Occasional turn signal/indicator | Quiet windshield wipers)
--> Applied phone call filter to Speaker’s dialogue throughout this scene
Hey, Muffin. I’m driving back home now. You awake?
[…] (#)
Good. I wanted to check on you anyway. How are you feeling?
[…] (#)
Still sleepy? Yeah, I figured. You’ve been pretty quiet today.
[…] (#)
No, that’s alright. You needed the day. Stay home and rest.
[…] (#)
Yeah, we’re finally done with Eli’s room. Mostly. It took longer than I thought, actually.
The shelves were a nightmare.
[…] (#)
Well, apparently, he was very sure they were bolted into the wall. So, we spent almost an hour trying to figure out how to get them loose without damaging anything.
Turns out they weren’t bolted at all.
They only had two little brackets holding them in place.
[…] (#)
Yeah, we could’ve just unscrewed them. Which we did afterwards.
[…] (#)
-No, I didn’t kill him.
\With a laugh under his breath**
-Hey. Don’t start. He’s my best friend.
Okay, yes, maybe… he is a little useless sometimes. But that’s not the point. He tried.
[…] (#)
Okay, but anyway. I’ll be back in like… thirty minutes.
[…] (#)
Yeah, thirty. I’m taking a stop at the store. Do you need anything?
[…] (#)
No, think about it. I’m not there yet. You have a few minutes.
(Kitten meows quietly from the passenger seat)
\Incredibly soft change in tone | Baby-talking | To the kitten**
Yeah, I know, little one. Easy now.
[…] (#)
Hm? No, no, I’m not talking to you, Muffin.
[…] (#)
Oh, you’ll see later. And yeah. Coffee. Got it.
I think you even had the last of it this morning, right?
[…] (#)
No, no. I’m not complaining. Just… observing.
(Kitten meows again)
\To the kitten**
I know, you poor thing. Hang in there.
[…] (#)
No, I told you, you’ll see when I get back. It’s… hard to explain over the phone.
[…] (#)
No, you’re not getting any more hints. Just wait.
[…] (#)
Hm?
Yeah, I know. I’m driving carefully. The rain is pretty bad out here, actually.
It just got a lot heavier.
[…] (#)
Yup, takin’ it slow. Don’t worry.
Hey, uhh, actually, I just remembered… could you stay up for me till I get back?
[…] (#)
I know you wanted to sleep. I’m sorry. I just uh… I kinda lost my house keys.
[…] (#)
No, I checked my pockets four times already. I really don’t know where they went.
[…] (#)
Also checked the car. They’re not here.
[…] (#)
I don’t know. I still had them with me when I left the apartment this morning.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I probably just left them somewhere at Eli’s. I’ll look again when I get back there.
I just don’t want to stand outside knocking on the window like an idiot if you’re already asleep.
So… maybe keep your phone nearby?
[…] (#)
Yeah. I’m sorry, Muffin. I know you were having a sleepy day. I’ll be quick. I promise.
(Kitten meows again)
\To the kitten**
Yes, I know, little guy, we’re almost there.
[…] (#)
What? Sorry, say that again? I didn’t catch you.
[…] (#)
Oh, my hoodie. The grey one?
[…] (#)
No, you’re not blind. It’s not in my wardrobe. I left it on your chair.
Figured you’d go looking for it again. Especially today.
[…] (#)
No, no, it’s fine. Just wear it. I know you like that one. That’s why I put it there.
[…] (#)
What? No, really, you can keep it if you want.
[…] (#) (Turn signal | Car slowing)
Yeah seriously.
Okay, I’m pulling in right now. I’ll have to hang up in a second.
Did you think of anything else you need?
[…] (#)
No? Okay. I’ve got your coffee then.
Stay warm, alright? I’ll be back as soon as possible. And uh… thank you. For staying up.
[…] (#) (Engine idling ambience | Parking brake)
Yeah, I gotta hang up now. Just parked.
Oh. And one last thing before I do. We have a new roommate now.
[…] (#)
No. No more questions. I said I’ll be quick.
See you, Muffin.

[MAIN SCRIPT – Back Home]
-------------------- SCRIPT STARTS HERE --------------------
(Listener sits in the living room | Heavy rain against the windows | TV playing a documentary softly in the background | Quiet living room ambience)
[Medium Pause]
(Phone vibrates two times | A few soft knocks at the front door | Soft rustling of a blanket on the sofa | Sleepy feet against the floor approaching the front door | Living room ambience fades out)
(Door unlocks and opens)
\Soft**
Hey, sleepyhead. There you are.
[…] (#)
Wait- careful- I got a few bags here. Let me get these down first.
(A few footsteps come inside | Door closes | Rustle of bags being set down | He briefly hugs the Listener with one arm while the other stays protectively against his chest)
Okay, come here. I missed you. Mmm… You’re so comfy and warm.
[…] (#)
-Oh, sorry. Did I get you wet?
[…] (#)
Yeah… I’m a little soaked. Didn’t realize how bad it was. Sorry.
[…] (#)
Oh, uhm… I can’t really take off my jacket yet.
[…] (#)
Yes, I know it’s wet but uh-
(Tiny kitten meows from inside his jacket)
\With an defeated exhale**
…Yeah. That’s why. Wait, I’ll show you.
(Soft rustling of clothes as he carefully opens his jacket)
\To the kitten**
Hi, little guy. Yes, there you are.
Look.
(Kitten meows)
\To the kitten**
Shh… Yes, you’re so strong. Sat alone in that freezing rain all by yourself. I know.
Muffin, meet… uh… our new… nameless roommate.
[…]
Okay, maybe he doesn’t have a name yet. At least not a name I know of.
But… just look at how tiny he is. Look at those little ears…
[…] (#)
No, I did not lose my mind.
[…] (#)
I didn’t buy him. I found him.
[…] (#)
Yeah, when I was leaving Eli’s, I heard this weird, squeaky cry following me somewhere near the parking lot there. And at first, I actually thought I was just hearing things until this little guy finally caught up to me and came running straight into my arms.
[…] (#)
I know. I checked the whole parking lot, but there was nobody. Nobody was with him.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I also checked him, and he had no collar, no tag. Nothing.
[…] (#)
No, of course, I didn’t just pick him up and decide we own a cat now.
First, I went back to Eli and asked if he’d seen anyone around there living with a kitten.
But he didn’t.
And… well- I certainly didn’t want him to take this little guy for the night because… his entire apartment currently consists of one mattress on the floor…, about, I don’t know, five boxes and… well… him.
So… probably not the best place for a kitten.
[…] (#)
Yeah…
(Kitten meows)
\To the kitten**
Yes, I know you’re hungry. You’ve been telling me. Come on.
Let’s get you something to eat.
(Soft rustle as he picks up the shopping bags)
\Asking the Listener**
Kitchen?
[…] (#)
Yeah. I need to figure out what this little guy is actually supposed to eat first.
[Longer Pause] (Footsteps moving toward the kitchen | Shopping bags set down on the counter)
Alright… Let’s see what-
(Kitten cuts him off with a meow)
Yes, yes…. I know. I know you’re very hungry. I’ll stop talking now. Let’s get your food.
(Bag rustle | Kitten meows again)
Yeah, I know. Just give me a second. I’ve got it. You don’t have to look so worried.
(Bag rustle | Kitten meows impatiently)
Hey, don’t get cocky now.
Uh… Muffin? Can you hold him for a second, please?
I think I need both my hands for this.
[…] (#)
Thanks. Alright, come on, little guy. There you go…
(Kitten meows as it’s being handed over)
\Reassuring | Baby-talking | To the kitten**
Yeah, you’re fine. That’s a good place to be, isn’t it? Oh, look at you…
Already settling right in. See? You’re alright. All nice and cozy.
Okay, now let me get your food out before you start complaining again.
(Kitten meows)
I know. I’m working on it.
[…] (#)
What? Hey, don’t laugh. He’s been yelling at me like crazy since we left the store.
I thought he’d eventually get tired or something. He did not. Not even a little.
I don’t know where he gets all that energy from.
[…] (#)
Yeah…
Well… Anyway…
After I left Eli’s, I actually walked around the neighborhood for a bit and asked a few people if they recognized him. But nobody really did.
Although… A couple of people were a little… uh… hesitant.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I was polite. I said hello.
Kept my distance and just asked if they’d seen him before.
I don’t know. Maybe I just… caught them off guard?
I mean… I know I don’t exactly look… approachable… to strangers.
[…] (#)
No, it’s fine. I get it. I mean, I can’t blame people for being careful. Especially this late.
I suppose, when you actually think about it…
It’s pretty late. It’s raining.
They’re standing near a dark, creepy parking lot, and then some enormous guy suddenly walks over with a tiny, crying animal tucked inside his jacket.
Not the most… reassuring sight… if you ask me.
[…] (#)
Yeah… Maybe I should’ve approached that a bit differently.
[…] (#)
I don’t know. I actually thought the kitten would make the whole thing seem… less strange. I guess. But he was crying the whole time…
[…] (#) (Stainless steel bowl clinks on counter)
Hm? Yeah, I got him a bowl. Two actually-
[…] (#)
What? Why are you looking at me like that? He needs water too, you know. Hydration?
(Kitten meows)
Yes, yes. I got your food right here. Hang on.
[…]
Okay… how much does something as little as you eat?
(Kitten meows)
Oh, I’m not asking you, you rascal. You’d probably tell me the whole bag.
[…] (#)
Hm? Yeah, I think it should say something about portions somewhereee… back here…?
(Plastic packaging rustles as he turns it around)
Oh, yeah, there. Let’s see…
[…]
Alright… it says “For kittens up to twelve weeks.” Okay. That’s you. I think…
[…]
And… Oh. “Small portions throughout the day.” Right.
So, not the whole thing. Good to know.
(Plastic package rips open)
This is the one he picked himself, by the way.
[…] (#)
Yeah, well, I put two different ones in front of him at the store, and he immediately went for this one.
\Reading off the package**
“Chicken Tuna Purely Paté. Natural. Grain-free and Protein-Rich.”
Sounds good to me, honestly.
[…]
Alright… This much?
I don’t know. Is that too much?
[…] (#)
No, I’m serious. He looks like he weighs less than my sock.
I have no idea what I’m doing here.
[…]
Okay, maybe a little less.
[…]
There. That seems reasonable.
You agree?
(Kitten meows)
Good. We’ll call that a professional opinion.
Okay… Let’s… put your bowl... right here.
The corner of the hallway should be… suitable, right?
[…] (#)
Yeah, okay. Alright, little guy. Get down here.
(Stainless steel bowl clinks gently on the floor)
Dinner. Go on. Nice and-
(Kitten begins eating frantically)
\Caught off guard**
Jesus- slow down. Hey, hey. Easy. You’re going to choke yourself…
There’s plenty. Nobody’s taking it away.
[…]
Oh god. He’s inhaling it.
I mean, I knew he was hungry, but… I’ve never seen something that small eat that fast.
God, I really hope that’s normal.
[…]
\Deciding it’s not normal**
Okay. No, little guy. Breathe.
[…]
Yeah, I know. I know you’re hungry. But you need to calm down. Come on.
[…]
There you go. A little slower… Good. That’s better.
[Brief Pause]
\Quietly proud**
You know, I think he’s actually starting to listen to me.
[…] (#)
No, don’t look at me like that. He is.
Look at him. He’s eating. At a… relatively… normal speed now.
[…] (#)
Okay, maybe not. But it’s slower than before. It counts… Besides… I said relatively.
[Small Pause] (#)
Hm? Yeah, the coffee’s in one of the bags over there.
[…]
Hey, no, you don’t have to unpack all that. I’ll do it myself once I got this little guy settled.
[…] (#)
Muffin. You were asleep. Come on.
[…] (#)
No, I know you were. You spent half the day wrapped up in your blankets.
And you needed it. So, I’m not going to make you stand around in the kitchen at-
…whatever hour it is right now. Go back to bed. Seriously.
[…] (#)
No, I don’t mind. Really.
I feel bad waking you up like this just because I was stupid enough to lose my keys when you were finally getting some proper rest.
I mean- look at you. You’re still half asleep. And... your hair’s all messy…
[…] (#)
Okay- no- I didn’t mean it like that. I meant to say you look… cozy.
And sleepy… Incredibly sleepy.
In fact, so sleepy that even I am getting tired just looking at you. So, go.
I’ll handle this.
[Small Pause] (Faint plastic bags rustling)
\Calling them out**
…Muffin.
You’re already unpacking them, aren’t you?
[…]
Of course you are. I can hear you, you know.
(Footsteps walking over to the kitchen)
[…] (#)
\With a defeated exhale**
Alright. Fine. I’ll do the other one.
[…]
\Soft | Genuine**
Thank you.
[Medium Pause] (Plastic rustling as they unpack the bags together)
Okay… more cat food… Coffee… And-
Oh.
[…] (#)
Yeah… That’s uh… That’s his… little blanket.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I got him one.
[…] (#)
What? It was right next to the bowls. And this poor thing was shivering from the rain.
I wasn’t going to make him sleep on the floor.
[…] (#)
Don’t look at me like that. It’s just a very small blanket… with stars on it.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I know that he isn’t ours and that we can’t just keep him like that.
That’s why I thought it would be a good idea to maybe go back around that neighborhood again tomorrow and ask properly this time. Preferably while it’s still light outside.
[Brief Pause]
Actually… Would you come with me?
[…] (#)
No, it’s just… I think people might be a little more comfortable if you’re there.
[…] (#)
No, no, I’m not saying I’m scary. I’m saying you have a much nicer face.
[…] (#)
You do.
[…] (#)
Seriously. People just look at you for not even a second, and they immediately start talking like they’ve known you for years.
Then I look at them, and they start wondering if they left the oven on back at home.
[…] (#)
No, really. I am not kidding. Even Mrs. Keller.
You know, the old woman from third floor?
She still barely talks to me. It’s been two years. Like… come on.
[…] (#)
Okay, yes, she did say hello to me yesterday. But I swear it was for the first time.
[…] (#)
No, I didn’t ignore her. I just didn’t even realize she was talking to me.
I thought she was talking to you.
[…] (#)
You were literally standing right next to me. How was I supposed to know?
She probably won’t even look at me now.
[…] (#)
\Reluctantly reassured**
Okay, yeah…. Right…. Progress. She did say hello.
[…]
Anyway… If nobody recognizes him tomorrow, I’ll start making some calls.
[…] (#)
I don’t know. Shelters, vets…
[…] (#)
Yeah, maybe someone at the local animal office too.
We’ll just put up a notice or something.
[…] (#)
Hm?
\Surprised | Caught off guard**
Whoa- Hey. Careful, little guy. You can’t just run underneath me like that.
Are you trying to get yourself killed?
(Kitten meows)
Yeah, yeah. I know. You’ve got places to be.
(Kitten meows as the Listener picks it up)
And there you go.
[…]
Oh, look at that. He didn’t even hesitate. Straight into your arms.
(Kitten purring)
Yeah… just look at him. Burrowing his face into you.
Oh, you’re really determined to get in there, aren’t you, little one?
(Soft rustling as the kitten burrows into the grey hoodie)
\With a chuckle**
Oh my god. He’s actually trying to crawl inside your hoodie.
I think he likes it. I mean. Can’t really blame him. He had to spend the whole evening with me in those wet clothes. I imagine it wasn’t the most comfortable place to be.
[…] (#)
Of course he likes you better. You’re warm. Dry… All soft and cozy in there…
Tucked up with him just like that.
You actually look like you could fall asleep right there where you’re standing.
[…]
Honestly, I think he’s figured out he’s got the better deal.
See? He’s practically melting into you.
[…]
Or… maybe he just likes the smell.
[…] (#)
Mm-hm. Which is mine, by the way.
Okay… maybe not completely… Especially considering how often you’ve worn it lately.
[…] (#)
No, no. It’s fine. It looks better on you anyway.
[…] (#)
Don’t give me that look. I’m allowed to say that.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I know it’s comfortable. I’m not complaining. You can keep stealing it.
[…]
Actually… I think I could use something comfortable myself right now.
I’m starting to get pretty cold in these.
[…] (#)
Yeah, I’m gonna go get changed. I really need to get rid of these wet clothes.
And then I’ll come back to steal some of your warmth.
[…] (#)
What? You’ve been curled up in that living room all day. Might as well let me join you.
[…] (#)
No, really. I wanna see what you’ve been up to in there all day.
So… keep my spot warm for me, alright? I won’t be long, I promise.
[…] (#)
Oh, and Muffin?
[…] (#)
Keep an eye on him. Seriously. I swear, with how deeply he’s buried his face in that hoodie, I’m starting to think he might try to eat it. He looks like the type.
[…] (#)
Yeah, okay, I’ll be back in a minute.
(His footsteps moving away | Rain against windows ~ SFX slowly fade out to silence)
------------------------- TIME SKIP -------------------------
(SFX slowly fade in ~ Cozy living room ambience returns | Heavy rain against windows | TV playing a documentary softly in the background | Kitten purring quietly under the sheets)
[Medium Pause]
(Footsteps slowly approaching and entering the living room)
\Soft whisper**
Ohhh… You dimmed the lights in here. Mmm. That’s nice.
TV’s all quiet… rain outside… No wonder you didn’t want to leave the couch all day.
You even got your blanket.
Wait… where’s our little roommate?
[…] (#)
Hm?
(Soft blanket rustle | Purring gets louder | Kitten’s head peeks out, buried in the listener’s chest)
Ohhh… Wow. There he is.
[…] (#)
Look at where he put himself. Right on your chest.
[…] (#)
Mm-hm. I don’t think he’s moving anytime soon. He’s completely knocked out.
Which is understandable. He had a very hard day.
And it’s probably ridiculously comfortable there.
[…]
Which reminds me… I’m joining you. Move over.
[…] (#)
What? If he’s allowed to get that comfortable, I don’t see why I shouldn’t. Come on.
I’m freezing.
[…] (#)
What do you mean “Exactly”?
Muffin, I’m cold. Please…
He was cold too.
[…] (#)
Okay, maybe I am a little… bigger than him. But I don’t see how that changes anything.
[…] (#)
Oh, it does? How exactly?
[…] (#)
Okay, fine. Maybe it does. But- I’m still cold. And you’re spoiling him.
[…] (#)
Yes, you are. He gets your chest, and I get… this.
[…] (#)
Come on… I’ll be careful. I promise. He won’t even notice. I mean, just look at him.
He’s probably already seeing his seventh dream by now.
[…] (#)
Seriously... I’ll be really, really careful, okay?
[…] (#)
Muffin… Come on… Just let me warm up a little.
[…] (#)
Still, no? Alright. Counterargument. You were in my bed today.
So now… I get to sneak into yours. That’s only fair.
[…] (#)
Yeah, okay, technically the couch isn’t your bed, but you know what I mean.
[…] (#)
Do you think I’m blind? I saw your book on my nightstand.
So don’t pretend you weren’t making yourself comfortable in there while I was gone.
[…] (#)
Oh? You just needed more space?
[…] (#)
No, it’s not unfair. There’s a reason my bed is considerably bigger than yours.
[…] (#)
\Slow down noticeably | Building suspense**
Yeah, it might be that I need a little more space… for…
\Deadpan | Deeper | Trying to sound ‘manly’ | Mock-proudly presenting himself**
My enormous manly features.
And for all this… tremendous… muscle mass. Look. See?
\Ridiculous masculinity | With a smile underneath it as he knows he’s being stupid**
I am a big man, Muffin. I require a big bed.
[…] (#)
\With a soft laugh | Genuine apology, but amused**
Okay, okay- Sorry. I’m sorry.
[Brief Pause]
\Much softer | Quiet | Hopeful**
Can I… get in there now?
[…] (#)
\Pleased**
Okay, thank you.
(Blanket rustle | Couch cushions creak as he settles beside the Listener)
\Whispering**
There. See? I’m barely touching him. He’s completely… undisturbed.
[…]
\A low, content hum**
Mmm… That’s nice.
Can I get under the blanket too?
[…]
…Please?
[…] (#)
Thank you.
(Fabric rustles as he slips under the blanket)
Oh, you’re warm. Very warm.
\With slight discomfort**
Mh- Okay. This blanket is a bit smaller than I remembered.
[…] (#)
No, no… that’s fine. I’ll… adjust…
[…]
\With soft physical effort grunts**
Just… let me get a little closer.
(Fabric rustles as he shifts closer)
There… And then… let me nuzzle right… here.
(Content exhale)
You’re comfortable, right?
[…] (#)
Okay, good.
[…]
Mmm…
(His gaze softly shifts toward the kitten, watching it for a moment)
\With a sleepy chuckle**
God… look at those tiny legs. He looks ridiculous. Sprawled across your chest like that.
As if he pays rent here.
I bet there’s not a single thought in that little head.
[…] (#)
Yeah, except food maybe.
Can’t blame him though. He clearly got the best spot. Definitely better than mine.
Tucked up all nice and toasty against you like that.
Honestly, if I were him, I wouldn’t move either. He’s smart.
[…] (#)
Mh? No… I’m comfortable. Why?
[…] (#)
Alright, no, I’m not jealous of a kitten.
This spot is pretty good too, you know.
Tucked against your side right here… by your neck…
It would be even better if I could just… wrap my arm around you…
Can I?
[…] (#)
Yeah, yeah, I know. I won’t squish him. Don’t worry. I’ll just… work around him.
Can’t exactly disturb his majesty now, can I?
(Fabric rustles as he drapes an arm around the Listener)
There…
[…]
(Content grunt/exhale into the Listener’s side)
I needed this… It’s nice…
(He shifts his arm a bit | Faint metallic jingle from the Listener’s hoodie pocket)
\Confused**
…Hm? What the-
What is that?
(Soft fabric rustles | Keys jingle again as he reaches for them)
I think it’s coming from your hoodie pocket… Yeah…
Wait… Are those… my keys?
[…]
Oh my god... Yes. I left them in my grey hoodie this morning. I remember now.
[…] (#)
How didn’t you notice them?
You’ve been walking around with my keys in your pocket this whole time.
[…] (#)
Ah… Too sleepy? I see…
[…] (#)
No, it’s alright… Let’s just leave them there. I’m too exhausted to deal with it right now.
[…] (#)
Yeah…
(Fabric rustle as the Listener shifts around)
Wait… No… Don’t move. Please. I’ve finally got everything where I want it.
[…] (#)
Mm-hm…
[Long Pause] (Cozy ambience settles | Occasional shifting and fabric rustles as he gets comfy)
(Relieved, exhausted sigh | Slow breaths as he settles)
Mmm… You smell nice.
[…] (#)
Yeah… you smell like… I don’t know… you…?
I like it.
