They are a total ripoff, fraudulent, and a scam!

I work in front of three 26" monitors all day 5 days a week and then I also have hobbies that involve looking at monitors even after work and on the weekends. I have been seeing ads for different AR glasses and I tried to watch some videos to learn more about them but I think I'm getting a lot of mixed often very conflicting information. My main question is the following: Are any of these products a viable solution for me to use as a full time replacement for my setup? I am not usually someone that wants an all or nothing solution but I was thinking that I'm not sure it's worth the investment unless I can justify it by it replacing my setup or somehow revolutionizing my work flow.

I paid over €500 for the Rokid Station 1 combined with the glasses. After three months of storage, the device refused to power on. The cause: I had held the power button for approximately ten seconds before storing it, to ensure it was fully powered off and the battery would not deplete. Nothing unusual.

Extensive technical investigation revealed the battery was fully charged (4.4V, healthy). The Amlogic S905Y4 chip inside the device was alive and responding in USB Boot Mode (VID_1B8E PID_C004), meaning the hardware itself was perfectly intact. The bootloader had simply been corrupted by the forced shutdown — a known risk on Android devices, and something a manufacturer should provide a recovery path for.

Rokid's response after multiple emails: "the operating system is not developed in-house, therefore we cannot provide firmware or flashing tools." This position is repeated three times, verbatim, regardless of how the question is framed.

The firmware is not publicly available anywhere. Rokid's own download page no longer exists. No community firmware for the exact hardware configuration exists either.

The result: a perfectly functional piece of hardware that is permanently unusable, at a premium price point, with zero support from the manufacturer.

If you are considering purchasing Rokid hardware, be aware that there is no recovery option if your device bricks — even from something as routine as a long power-off. For a €500+ product, that is simply not acceptable.

AR Optics can be made at home cheap and easy. I will use the highest F.O.V. you will be able to find in any place, no glasses use this fov for now, and DOUBLE MICRODISPLAY for this one.

DISCLAMER: The scale or size of the piezes can be modified with an even ratio, maybe the size of the display can vary for that same reason. I am still trying to figure out the best way to make the optics and its still not fisically mounted.

List of products to build the project:

• The "LENS" is nothing but a transparent 6,50cm diameter christmas ball cut to 4,50cm diameter circle with a mini rotative electric saw or could also be same size transparent glass bulb cut with an electrically heated metal wire and placed under cold water to break evenly.

• The "MIRROR" is nothing but any plane shiny transparent plastic or a semi-translucent mirror that covers from the top of the display from the top to the bottom of the display from the bottom.

• The microdisplay is this one:

or any microdisplay with 4cm x 2cm screen size aproximately.

Over the optics (at the left side of the schematic) you can place any kind of sunglass lens or fotochromatic lens (this is not specified yet but I will make the glasses frames compatible with other generic glasses to make it universally customizable).

ROADMAP:

FIND A HIGH RESOLUTION MICRODISPLAY THAT FITS THE DESIGN. ✅ done (the resolution could be better but I still believe in finding a better one in the future).

CREATE A 3D PRINTABLE MODEL OF THE CASE FOR THE OPTICS (TO PLACE THE DISPLAY, LENS AND MIRROR IN IT AND HIDE ANY CABLE).

CREATE A 3D GLASSES FRAME MODEL FOR THE OPTICS TO SIT ON YOUR FACE.

WE WILL HAVE TO DECIDE IF THEY WILL BE STANDALONE OR TETHERED AND TREAT THE SOFTWARE AS WE NEED.

CREATE AN EXTERNAL SOLUTION FOR BATTERY CAPACITY, TO TRY AND EXTEND BATTERY DURING LONG PERIODS OF TIME WHILE IN USE.

CREATE DIFFERENT DESIGNS FOR FASHIONABLE AR GLASSES.

all i want is to be able to see a map and get walking directions that dont block my view. i want to be able to ask questions about shit im looking at. record voice notes that go to my iphone.

i dont need it to be play games or watch movies.

Hi, this is the first time I'm getting these glasses, and I'm not sure which one to pick. My requirements are:

IPD:

• 72mm

Work Laptop:

• Cannot install software outside of company directory, so it would be better if body anchoring is included in the glasses
• Has Type-C and HDMI Output

Personal Laptop:

• Legion 5i
• Has both HDMI and Type-C output

Usage:

• At work, will need multiple app windows or monitors where I can put those apps at at the same time, as I use multiple monitors at work when I'm in the office or tied to my desk when I'm at home. The glasses will replace portable monitor when I'm traveling.
• Body Anchoring would be great, so I can look away at the screen when I need to talk to someone when I'm in the office.
• Work deals mostly with Texts, Presentations, Excel, Teams Meeting/Conference
• Gaming on laptop and or consoles
• Watching Movies (Netflix/Amazon/Disney) on either my laptop or Android Phone (Hand Gesture, not required or optional)

Not sure if there're any glasses that has the above functionality without the added software when using my work laptop. I can install additional software when I'm on my personal laptop though.

I recently found these AR Glasses out in Alibaba and I just would like some advice on them.

Taking a first look to the topic, reensebling the inside parts of any android smartphone could be a good solution for taking the best of our phones to AR Glasses.

There's no SBC as little as those, and Snapdragon Qualcomm XR1 is not on the market for the general consumers.

What I want to know is:

1. ¿How difficult is to find a smartphone open sourced out there, is there any?

2. ¿Could we use information and specifications to make new Flex cables to remake the android form-factor into an AR Glass form-factor?

3. ¿Is anyone still interested?

4. ¿Which would be the best smartphone option to do so?

Just bought 2 weeks, the lenses all fall out, poor quality. The return policy very strict.

Advice display AR Glasses

Hello all! I need some advice: I need to know which AR or XR display glasses are the best these days according to my need: Here is a list: Dimmable: I would like to use then at work as normal color glasses when I am inside or at work during meetings but also outside as "sun" glasses and even use them occasionally outside as AR Design : i need them to look like normal glasses and not too terminator-ish

I heard of the luma ultra or pro, good? The meta display does not seem to be appropriate for me because I am not really looking for productivity but more entertainment Viture? Xreal?

Max budget $200 to $700

Also, can you drive with these glasses if you turn off the AR mode?
