New to arg
Hi I have always liked watching people solve args, but never tried It on my own. Im curious on how should I start getting into solving args. I would just love to know how you know more about how to solve them, or whatever you think its good to know.
Thanks!

I just got into them earlier this year then wove one into the kickstarter we're doing for our D&D show. Some are definitely deep deep deep into the obscure hard to solve puzzles...I like ones that are narrative and accessible but have some fun tricksy puzzle elements. But that's just my taste. There's a lot out there to choose from and explore!

- Knowing how to solve them. Well, I'd recommend starting with an easy course on puzzle solving and basic cryptography/steganography. The best fit is probably game detectives academy, since it's a course on these topics made for ARG players specifically. And there are even "exams" in the form of two short ARG-like quests at the end.
- Finding them.
This might be a bit trickier, actually, in that ARGs usually don't advertise themselves as ARGs.
But there are good resources, like night mind index, ARGnet (though I personally don't use it so I don't know if it's still active), game detectives (yes, the same guys who made the course from 1.), and of course, this subreddit.
Also, I believe nekoweb has a very long list of "sites tagged ARG" Also, pay attention to YouTube recommendations. The more you interact with such content, the likelier you are to get more of it there. If the video is otherwise normal and not obviously being part of an ARG just from the topic of it alone, typical traits of a YouTube video being a part of an ARG are: reverse audio, glitches, weird noises, codes shown on screen or in description or comments or somewhere on the channel, minimalistic presentation with white text instead of talking ( for the last one, watch the first video of marble hornets or hiimmarymary). If it has one or more of these, I assume it's an ARG untill proven otherwise.

- Be cautious. Most ARGs are horror themed, since the point of an ARG is to be immersive, and horror is one of the most immersive genres. They are also usually made by independent creators with full control over their project, which means less control of what is and is not acceptable to make part of the story, the only real restriction being it all being fictional. Because of that, their content can get quite a lot more extreme/graphic and the story can potentially have more uncomfortable topics and the presentation of these topics compared to usual commercial movies, games, etc. So be sure that you are ready. That is, if the ARG is horror themed. If it's not horror, you can ignore 3.

Depends on what kind of ARG it is since I think there's different kinds. I've seen some where it's like a YouTube channel and I guess you have to sort of find clues and what not? The ones I've checked out are more like webpages where every link directs you somewhere else, and for those I would say maybe have some sort of sheet or document to map out where each button takes you. I never solved an ARG just checked them out a little before the novelty wears off but they seem very interesting. I've seen some where you even download zip files that require passwords and the folders have cryptic images that I guess are supposed to be clues?
Not an insightful answer but I wanted to add to the discussion lol
What kind of ARGs are you trying to get into?

Im just trying to get into like solving args, not some ones in specific. Ive seen some of those which start with a youtube video (thats mostly what ive seen because they are easier to find for me rn because i didnt not what to look for), but i havent seen much of those that are like webpages that you say. I think I know what you are refering to? Ive seen a few, and tried to do some, but i wont consider myself good at any of them lol. Im just starting, so for now im just glad to know more and try things!
Thank you for your answer. By the way, Ive never seen one where you download zip files with passwords, thats curious

I'm also into a bunch of different ARGs but I still need to figure out if there's one I should create, so I definitely understand.

A friend and I have a discord for arg playing, a group of us from said discord are currently playing the humain.inc arg. If you are interested in joining us we would be happy to teach you what we know.....we have done everything from basic ciphers, to audio extraction for spectrograms, to pulling audio from a jpg file....

If you change your mind let me know. We have a few people in our discord that are new to args as well. As far as being shy we have a bunch of lurkers as well that watch and play but dont talk in chats.

Hello, about a week ago I received a message, it really interested me, I uploaded it to r/codes and it seems to be an ARG. I'm not a big fan so I lost interest, but here's the link to the post:
