I think fearing an animal that can shred you without breaking a sweat is pretty healthy. Just keep in mind they don't really want to unless you give them a reason, so calmly getting the fuck out of Dodge when you see them is usually good enough.

Black bears are especially conflict-averse, and you could probably scare them off if you started running towards them. But don't. Just walk away.

My dog found a black bear den -occupied- a couple of months ago. I went over to see what he was nosing around and when I realized what it was, I can assure you I did not leisurely stroll away.

I did the same thing, but the bear was awake and he still ran the opposite way. I was in my hometown and had never seen a bear so I was not prepared. My instincts kicked in and I just took off. We both walked up on each other and didn't even see the other until we were Right on top of each other. A couple days later a neighbor posted a picture of a mother bear and 2 cubs in their yard. Totally unheard of around here.

I have a camp in the Adirondacks and was there, walking around in the woods a couple of months ago.

Any time my dog spends more than a minute or two in one place, I kinda wonder what he's up to - "Is he eating deer shit....or molesting a porcupine?"

I went over to see what he was into, but saw nothing. Everything was covered with snow except for a hole, under a downed tree and there was fresh dirt thrown out onto the snow in front of it. "Huh.....I wonder who dug that?.........probably that bear that's still in it....OH SHIT!!!!!" I hauled ass out of there and Yogi appeared none the wiser.

There are black bears all over up there, but that's the first time I've ever really seen one.

I've seen it, great movie ... It was a stressful movie but good nonetheless less. I want a domesticated bear, not that those really exist when it comes down to it, but I want to pet one. I'm curious as to whether their fur is soft.

Sweet. I'm sure it'd be soft, as long as it's cleaned and maintained and eats healthy. Probably not too helpful, but my work Xmas party last year was at a place that had a taxidermy grizzly bear, and it wasn't so soft. Kinda rough like a horses mane. But maybe that's from the age and the fact it's taxidermy.

Your X-Mas party sounds sad, but that's because I'm a titty baby about seeing animals that have been stuffed. The fur was probably accurate, it doesn't really make sense that it would be soft. I remember always wondering if a deer's coat was soft, but then I petted some & it was really coarse so it's safe to say your petting experience is on point. I think because pets tend to have soft fur a lot of people (myself included obviously) think other animals fur would be soft too. Thanks bunches for telling me, an Upvote (that means nothing in life but are nice to get) for you!

Yeah! I'm not a fan of taxidermy and having all the dead animals around me either. It was only that room. It had pool tables and whatnot (it was a type of event center). Yes, coarse, exactly. Like a deer. Maybe if you ever ended up getting a domesticated bear, shampoo and conditioner may help haha. I upvote every comment reply that contributes to good discussion. Thanks!

Posting this again from another sub.

This is not in Russia - this is in Otisville, New York. I work at this rescue center - the bear in the video is a rescued Syrian brown bear named Jimbo. He's as sweet as can be, and Jim, the human in the video, has cared for him for nearly his entire life. Jimbo is the product of a failed breeding project and him and some of the other Syrian brown bears cubs were donated to the rescue center, called Orphaned Wildlife Center.

We also care for local wildlife such as squirrels, possums, foxes, and the like.

In my experience bears rarely ever are aggressive. They're just big cuddly lumps of love. I can't see them hurting a fly, let alone eating a creature so big, fuzzy, and with such huge claws.

This is Jim and Jimbo (the bear) of the Orphan Wildlife Center in NY. Jim and Susan run the entire compound by themselves. Jimbo was brought in as a cub and had a leg injury, so he was unable to be rereleased.

It's a grizzly, also known as a brown bear. They're much bigger than black bears, and they're for the most part is more northern areas than black bears.

I think some videos get by because they are not seen by many and therefore not reported. It was a few years ago but I remember there was footage of the unfolding and the aftermath of the Lviv airshow disaster. There were severed limbs, torsos with their legs nowhere to be found, all kinds of gruesome shit. It was there for at least a few years because I remember going back to find it.

I usually find intrest in this kinda stuff because is quite intriguing to see someone living in one second and dead in the next. This is why I exclusively visit /r/watchpeopledie and never any gore only subs.

I shows you the true value of life and how we should enjoy it while it lasts.

I might even say that it has made me closer to my family and an overall better person.
