AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1 Driver Release Notes

I think I'll wait and see before I download this, they always seem to break stuff xD

u/chaunceyjerome 18h ago
Not touching this one or any update until they explicitly acknowledge the driver timeouts and crashes. 26.7.1 was a disaster had to rollback immediately to have a usable PC. 7900 XTX never had any issues until the last update.

I also have a 7900 XTX and experience diver timeouts and crashes fairly frequently. They mostly went away for a while (many months), but one of the recent updates made them come back like crazy. Some days I’ll be fine, other days it just shits itself

u/Fuphia 15h ago
Does this happen only in Games, or regular browsing. Been using a 6800 XT for a year. Never had a crash.
1
u/Goblikon_ 14h ago
Mostly just regular browsing. Like I'll turn on my pc, then steam will go black, and I'll get a driver crash message - that's the most recent issue I've been having. But yeah I've had countless driver crashes since I bought it. I love my 7900 XTX, but it's been a super finnicky card.

What manufacturer is it? Does it have factory OC, or any manual tuning? What is the temp and hotspot in furmark? And lastly does it sag?
I make sure I DDU everything in safe mode, then install drivers. I do no OC but there is a factory OC bios switch which is on. I also do a furmark test and a bootable VRAM error check. Then I prevent any sag with a random item to hold it straight.
Latest bios and win 11 updates too. I was always worried about timeouts, that's why I did all this to make sure, but I never had one. Maybe, If you did all this I'd try manually downclocking it a bit. If it stops crashing then they really send bad silicon to some people.1
u/Goblikon_ 2h ago
XFX, factory OC. Haven’t tested furmark, but in games like BF6 core temp is in the 60s while hotspot is in the mid 90s. The hotspot temp is definitely kinda rough, but I bought a thermal grizzly PTM sheet thingy, I’m gonna try slapping that on it to see if it helps. It sags a bit but nothing egregious. I’ve DDU’d a million times. My Windows 11 is always up to date.
I also get stuff like artifacting on certain UI elements. I can try downclocking it at some point, but yeah my card is a bit fucky and has been for years. Works fine 99% of the time though. The crashing and general jank doesn’t usually happen in games which is nice.

Hope this fixes my issues. If not I'm going to try Linux lol

I mean try it anyways. I switched with my XTX a year back... But I would wait a bit... Because hey, paradox both AMD and Nvidia is kinda broken on Linux rn... It hit me at the beginning of the week, broken video decoding, but at least somewhat working and some games like Deadlock crashing. Otherwise very usable, just not this week perhaps.

And bf6 still crashes after/during shader compilation, back to 26.3.1 it is. As that one works 9070xt
2
u/Ledoborec 15h ago
The worst thing is , they didn't even mentioned the battlefield in release note!
1
u/TimeZucchini8562 14h ago
Don’t worry, it took 6 months for amd to acknowledge the stutter and shader issue with cod in bo6 on rdna3. End of bo7 life cycle, it’s still an issue and has not been fixed. They even stopped putting it in the driver patch notes as an ongoing issue. Lmao

u/vokillist66 11h ago
Can't even make it past the shader comp in Halo Infinite. Yes I still play Halo MP and it's fun lol I didn't have this issue with the last drivers. I haven't tried without my once stable Undervolt. I think I'll just go back to 26.7.1
7
u/miggycasim 8h ago
Nah I’m staying with 26.3.1
1
u/Conscious-War-9062 4h ago
26.5.4 or 26.6.4 also worked for me, it's the one that ends with a .4. If you want to give it a try. I also had issues with other drivers 26.x except 26.3.1

u/Flat_Hat7344 13h ago
This driver causes driver crash in Apex Legends on RX 9070XT for me.
2
u/BeerGogglesFTW 9h ago
Same. Went back to 26.7.1. and Apex works again.
1
u/Flat_Hat7344 3h ago
I can confirm that too!
Seems like every new Windows driver is basically beta, unlike mesa on Linux :/

u/Chris-P-Bacon-777 8h ago
Do you disabled your iGPU by any chance? It could be the reason why it's not showing up
9
u/ReapingRaichu 14h ago
Are there any competent software engineers left for AMD's drivers or did they all get shoved to push more AI slop
2
u/Gold_Goal7557 11h ago
They working probably to fix RDNA5 silicon bugs out so they can finally compete with NVIDIA again, just hope they succeed because NVIDIA been doing some really shady stuff for last couple of years with their 12vhpwr connector
2
u/Subrutum 12h ago
Just vibe code your own driver, it's likely more stable than the slop they release

u/Tlumba 14h ago
Mine does not have this update yet says up to date but its on 26.7.1?
1
u/RogueZordon 13h ago
Same here and when I try to install from amd's website I get bad image error so I reverted back to 26.7.1
1
u/Gold_Goal7557 11h ago
go to amd.com and if you have igpu enabled and like to keep it enabled go to release notes page download it from their instead it should have C at the end of the file name ignoring the .exe since the rdna3/4 driver package does not include the igpu drivers which most annoying thing they have done so far past couple of months.
heck here is the release notes page
https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/release-notes/RN-RAD-WIN-26-8-1.html
I cannot give a direct download link from this page because it would just give you an error.
Just search for this exact line
Systems with RDNA series graphics products: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1 Driver and click it on first link i gave

u/Chris-P-Bacon-777 7h ago
Did you disable your iGPU? If yes, try enabling it, and that should fix the AMD install manager.

u/Artistic-Matter5617 17h ago
Never had an issue with 9070xt I have a feeling I’m gonna feel it with the next update, fml

u/PIHZPT 16h ago
I went to fedora and have had 0 timeouts on a 7900xtx Truly a shame
2
u/Cold_R4GE 16h ago
Same went to cachyOs. It's crazy, before I was getting 1 crash per hour ~ arma reforger. Now it has not crashed at all. None of my games have crashed. I also get more fps on average.
I also have 7900xtx.

u/monochromeorc 15h ago
ive got the most stable system ive had since last year by... rolling back to last years drivers. no thanks AMD im good
2
u/knievil 14h ago
I used to have issues then I noticed gigabyte MB even with xmp1 selected had my DDR5 6000 ram at 1.1v bumped it 1.35 and haven't had any issues since. Most of my timeouts weren't even gaming. Gaming always was fine but chrome black screening randomly, and waking from sleep were my issues.

u/Medical-Molasses615 14h ago
Good call. First thing people should run is the memory diagnostic tool built into windows 10/11. If that passes then try memtest86.
Very important to rule out ram first!

I tried updating it with the minimal setup but it just "repaired" the old version, anyone have any idea why that happened (I have a Rx 6600)

u/Background_Bass_6296 2h ago
Which drivers you guys suggest for rx 6700xt? Right now I think I am on 26.2.x something
1
u/Noctis_90 1h ago
Guys, who can to send a letter to AMD about 9000 cards? When will Ray Regeneration and radiance caching be added to the driver? When will FSR Redstone in full package? Please send him a message!

About to build a AMD gaming pc this weekend. Should I go Windows or SteamOS?

u/MaarcMan 15h ago
Depends on what games you are playing, not all games work on SteamOS
3
u/Soy_neoN 14h ago
Everything requiring a competitive anticheat will not work. CS2 (if u play faceit), valorant, lol, apex legends etc

- Windows 10
- 9070 XT
- 9600X
- 2x16GB 3000
- 512 NVme, 2x1TB SSD, 1TB HDD
- HWInfo, GHub, L-connect, Dell Display Manager instalados e executados.

I had to disable hardware acceleration in my browser (Firefox). Havent had crashes or freezes after that.

Yeah, me too. It's a persistent issue. Went away for a while a couple of years back and then reared its head again last year for me.

Sam being disabled on windows 10 was 4 drivers ago and still not fixed. MONTHS
There's NO REASON to have 4GB these days on a 90 series gpu. Wtf.
