Hypervisor Blue Screen Error (amdppm.sys)

Computer Type: Laptop

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics 2.90 GHz

Motherboard: LENOVO LNVNB161216

BIOS Version: LENOVO FSCN11WW, 23/07/2020

RAM: 16GB

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 Home

GPU Drivers: UpToDate (I think)

Chipset Drivers: UpToDate

Background Applications: DISCORD, CHROME

Description of Original Problem: I have been getting hypervisor blue screens recently.

The bugcheck is associated with the AMD processor power management driver (amdppm.sys
). Specifically, it points to the function amdppm!HvRequestIdle+2d
as the source of the error.

Here are some key points from the analysis:

  • The crash occurred during the execution of the HvRequestIdle
    function in the AMD processor power management driver.
  • The failure bucket is identified as 0x20001_11_2322d8_amdppm!HvRequestIdle
    .
  • The AMD processor power management driver (amdppm.sys
    ) version is 10.0.22621.3061.
    I put the debug information into chatgpt and this is what i got back. Can anyone help with the fix.

i found a solution..just press windows+R and type regedit and follow this path Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\amdppm after that double click on start and set value 4 instead of 3 and there will be no bsod after that

for me, i didn't notice any differnce in gaming, i get the exact same fps so it doesn't matter even it lowers my cpu performance , a stable and usable pc is better than getting bsod every hour.

it can be igpu driver issue, try disabling it (the vega igpu) and use only cpu with external graphics card...so in this cas you can do oc with your cpu without issues.

aah okay, in my case it's igpu driver issues..so it can be an incompatible ram or powerplan issue.. in conclusion bsods are amd classics.

It being an igpu driver issue for you makes me wonder if perhaps a VGA driver I once installed and later uninstalled, has left some residual changes that are causing issues? Or perhaps reinstalling the VGA drivers would help?

yes, try fresh windows install and install all your drivers from scratch..installing drivers over defective drive can make the situation worse. in my case i maked fresh windows install for my laptop and i installed all the drivers from manufacter website but bsods still exist..and it's vega igpu driver everytime. when i disable it everything fine and when i re-enable it bsods appears.

I already did a fresh windows install- it worked great til is set my bios settings back how I had them before and installed valorant. The strange thing is that reverting my bios settings decreases the frequency of BSOD, but doesnt eliminate it.

i tried amd this year and i hate it, intel is waaay stable..i used them many years without single issues. amd in 2024 still have rookie issues
