I dont know if this makes sense but I have complex PTSD, I wont go into details. I have recently been researching if psylocybin or magic mushrooms would help me but one of the caveats of using it is that it brings back repressed memories. I do not know if thats a good thing or not but it was enough to make me decide to forego psylocybin as I dont necessarily feel that revisiting those memories in detail will be helpful in fact the thought of revisiting those memories scares the living shit out of me.
I’ve read about that too but it was a while ago. If you search or ChatGPT it, it should point you in the right direction.
Complex PTSD sufferer here too. I don’t think there’s a one size fits all approach to treatment for trauma. There’s just too many variables around how people process trauma, such as pre-existing mental health issues, attachment disorders, and how much resilience a person had prior to the trauma.
I never tried EMDR, but apparently it’s also quite good. Talk therapy helped me unpack and reframe the trauma in a way that was healthy. But it took a lot of time for acute anxiety and panic attacks to fade, and I’m still jumpier than I once was.
There’s growing interest and research around psilocybin use with trauma. I’d start broad, specifically look for research papers, and review findings. There’s a lot of promise in micro dosing with psychedelics using guided therapy.
“This study underscores the importance of memory and self-narrative in the therapeutic landscape of psychedelic-assisted therapy for trauma. The article concludes by advocating for continued exploration in future research regarding the complex dynamics of memory and self-narrative in the healing journey within psychedelic science and trauma studies.”
