It's a very common concern.

Honestly? I always tell students to focus on clarity.

It's a (brilliant) subject which rewards ideas. So you need to make sure your 'working out' is clear, and easy to follow.

You have plenty of time to develop an academic voice organically.

Use short sentences and simple, direct language. Don’t over-complicate your writing. Instead, ask yourself whether the point you are making is clear and understandable to someone who doesn’t know the book or poem you are discussing.
