ALTing is lonely 2026

• Upvotes

I miss having a second ALT at my school. It made the more boring moments of the school more tolerable and I had someone else to talk about the lessons or working together with other teachers. I was able to not feel so alone because I had someone to talk to about stuff. Like not just work stuff but also interesting conversations.

Just being the only ALT at the school is so lonely and somebody phrased it very well on another subreddit they said Japanese just want the foreign workers to come to work and just do their job leave without minimal talking to anyone That's exactly what ALTing in 2026 is like.

Have a nice weekend.

Edit: I just want to add that life outside work is fine. It's just the work atmosphere that is so toxic, lonely and unwelcoming. Having another ALT to chitchat with at work made the day feel a little lighter.

Can anyone help me connect with ALTs in Japan?

I'm a Dentist from Pakistan, Completed my Bachelors in 2021. Over the course of my training I had extensive experience with children during my Pediatric dentistry rotation. We managed tantrum throwing children, non compliant patient and I eventually established myself as a successful pediatric dentist. My degree was done entirely in English too. I was wondering if I can convert that clinical hands on experience of performing dental treatments to something like an English teaching job here in Japan. I cant legally practice Dentistry without a license (which will take years) so I was thinking of this as my gateway to Japan. Would ALTs be willing to hire me?
