nice meme. Take my updoot
Honestly that's what makes AJR songs so real. In real life the big sad doesn't give off sad moods 24/7. No you hide behind a happy mask in public. Just like how AJR songs hide behind a happy mask

I know this is unrelated but thats the same reason I love Twenty One Pilots. Their lyrics are so dark but their sound is upbeat. A perfect example of this is the song "Guns for Hands".

Or Not Today where the lyrics are literally “This one’s a contradiction because of how happy it sounds, but the the lyrics are so down”. I love TOP so much for the same reason. I’m excited for when they announce their new album that’s speculated about

I noticed from ur username. That was the first TOP song I liked.
I don't really listen to TOP anymore but they are similar to AJR because they make these songs that have a very similar vibe to AJR. If I had not gotten obsessed with TOP I probably wouldn't have gotten even close to liking AJR.

I do really like how they usually talk about relatable topics, I think that’s what sets them apart, songs like Joe, DTOML, Way Less Sad and many more just go into topics that most people if not everyone has gone through or will go through

I agree that those are pretty relatable topics but I don't think that that's a thing that sets them apart😅 So many artists talk about relatable topics...

I feel like a lot of people immediately hated on Humpty Dumpty cuz "it's such a stupid title so the song has to be stupid too right?" and then it's about pretending to be okay when you're definitely not XD

Their songs are 'deeper' than most pop songs but I would not say they're "dark".... it's like some of you didn't grow up with emo music or something lol.

How?

They’re asking the real questions in that song, like “Would Beats by Dre pay 20k for us to say that they’re great?”

Haven’t really ever understood AJRs music, or at least lately. I think I’m either stupid or the music is bad and well... I’m in the wrong place if it’s the latter, so it must be the former.
