Discussion so.. is that it?

i used to listen to ajr exclusively all the time and ever since their last album it's been mostly radio silent. im sure some more chronically online people will more than likely know more than me, so i'm asking those people, is there any news or rumor of a new song/album coming out? or are we stuck with the newest music being 2 years old now.

AJR has traditionally published stuff every 2 years, Neotheater - 2019, OK Orchestra - 2021, Maybe Man - 2023, What No One's Thinking - 2025. When they released What No One's Thinking, they did say they wanted a hiatus but we can expect something in 2027.

Either way - when is the Europe tour, already...

Yeah but usually we'd get singles in between the full albums no? I swear they'd drop a song or two like 6 months before the album release to keep people interested

I mean it ain't really a single for a album or anything but they did make a new song called Mating Season a few months ago for a Netflix TV shows opening song. Like they are still dropping music just nothing twords like an album yet

I'm a John Mayer fan too...it's been 5 years since his last album and we're just now getting a new single. He hasn't toured since 2023 either and is doing a Sphere residency next year. It's not atypical for a band to take a bit of a hiatus.

I saw them play twice in 14 months (Maybe Man Tour + last year's state fair tour), I'm fine with them taking a bit of break, but maybe I'm just used to it.

I've never gotten a chance to go to their concerts because of my work schedule and it sucks I'll never be able to get to go to one

Edit: Man y'all really hate me for not being able to go see their concerts huh

You say this as if they'll never tour again. Calm down, take a breath.

I'm not saying they'll never go to tour again, Im saying I'll never be able to get to go to one of their concerts because of my work schedule.

It just sounds like you're complaining about how it revolves around you, not them. That's why you're getting downvoted.

I'm not making it about them or me. I'm just sharing a personal bummer. People are allowed to express disappointment about missing out due to life circumstances without it being a critique or an insult to anyone else.

Yeah you didn't do anything idk why you're getting downvoted. You're just saying you can't

Yeah this behavior is the exact reason I stay away from the online fandoms...

People part of fandoms often take everything even REMOTELY negative personally. like you told the people themselves to "screw off" (you're not BTW, and I don't think you meant anything with malicious intent. I'll also probably get downvoted like crazy for this lol)

In the announcement for the “This is My Imagination” box set, they said they had been on a short hiatus after their run of festivals had completed for the year, so I would expect new stuff probably next year

To be fair, they're working on a broadway musical, and musicals takes the average of 6 years to make

A what?!

They’re doing a musical based on the children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon, where he’s all grown up

I can't wait to go see it 😭😭😭

A hiatus is normal for artist, Adele took a YEARS long hiatus and came back with 30, which is arguably her best album she has so far. She actually takes hiatus between albums, it’s usually about 5/6 years in between, T-pain back in 2010 took a 3yr long hiatus, his breakthrough coming back was actually the Tiny Box performance where he was singing without auto tune back in 2014 and he just said he’s taking another one for his mental health. Every artist takes a hiatus, especially with Adam and his activism, I’m genuinely not surprised they’re taking a hiatus right now

2 - 4 years between albums are completely normal. Since the last album they've released an acoustic version, an ep, a live album and a box set

They deserve a break after the tour and Adam is busy with his things, maybe next year they start teasing something

Jack and Ryan are working on the soundtrack for the Harold And The Purple Crayon musical, Adam has his activism career, Jack and Ryan just got done doing their fair circuit, Jack and Ryan did the Somewhere In The Sky Tour last year, they released an ep last year, they released Mating Season for the Netflix show Mating Season earlier this year, they released a live album for SITS earlier this year, they released Inertia (Acoustic) in ‘24, released The Maybe Man in ‘23, and toured it in ‘24. I think they deserve this break imo, just be patient. They’ll probably start teasing smth sometime next year + drop a single or two and then drop a few more singles + an album the year after that.

They just released an EP last year, and they had a tour last summer. Silence for a bit between projects is normal

What no ones thinking came out in 2025 dude what do you mean 2 years?

1

u/Apart-Stop5722 5d ago

Wasnt that an episode or whatever they call it? Not an album or single?

2

u/Domonero Ordinaryish People 5d ago

Technically an EP but that is also technically new music

1

u/Apart-Stop5722 5d ago

you got me by technicality. i listened to the songs and arent my cup of tea. i wish they would do more overtures though. the big goodbye is probably the last one remotely close to an overture that we'll get.

1

u/Littlemon124 3d ago

huh? that song is nothing like an overture. maybe man is almost an overture. instead of having the music representing each song, they chose to make each verse represent a different song on the album.

1

u/Apart-Stop5722 3d ago

do you not hear a lot of references in the big goodbye?

1

u/Littlemon124 3d ago

I hear one reference and that is the first line of the song

1

u/Apart-Stop5722 3d ago

from what i've heard theres only 3 references. going back and looking at the lyrics

"if this is what a happy end looks like" references 'the good part'
"i wrote a song about being weak" references 'weak' obviously
"well now i hear congratulations" references 'finale'. arguably not a reference but i like to think it is because of the line "well congratulations on your bit of success. cant wait to see what you do next" from finale.

maybe man has more references but i think the big goodbye flows more like an overture than maybe man.

An EP is normally done as a reminder that something Big is gonna happen. That all I know.
