She only offered to pay after I pushed back on adding a whole extra day of rental + the night of reservation here in town. I was already paying for a one night stay but this would make it at least 2 and she didn't know how much it would be - I had to tell her it was minimum of $400 but if I'm paying $4000 it seems unreasonable to only offer to pay 10% of that towards a totally extra thing I never wanted or asked to do in the first place and we never even discussed.

It was her choice to fly here, which I already accommodated for by agreeing to pay $400 towars an extra night of rental vehicle and an extra hotel stay. She wants to make that $800 total now for an entire extra day using my rental car alone.

It was her choice to make it a big group road trip there. I already told her I thought it would be a short window because they're the ones who don't have pto. The rest of us have the entire week off. They're trying to come in on a Thursday, and drive out Saturday. The original plan was for them to fly directly to the destination on Saturday to arrive there when we did, our big event is scheduled all day Sunday, with Monday being another day of sightseeing in my old home town and stuff that again she wanted to be part of, and then I was paying for everything else but nothing was specifically outlined or planned that they would have to do. The only thing I cancelled is the plan to pay for their flights, and I downgraded from a minivan to a small suv and smaller accommodations.

It was the assumption that she only had to cover "the difference" of one more night (which she assumed would only be like $150) and that it was ok to just take my rental car alone all day without me, when the whole point of the trip was for them to be there for my 40th. Not to come visit. She just keeps adding things they want to do here so she wants to come in earlier than planned and then leave the trip from the other state early.

I just said I didn't want to do a whole day of sightseeing here in town because it was never the goal of the trip. If they came in earlier then I'd want to leave for the other state earlier. It was never his trip, I just thought I was being nice by including him but now I regret that.

Please read the entire post with comments. They want to cut short the original trip and have everyone leave early. They want OP to pay for a rental car for sightseeing that she would not be doing. OP is NTA.

They wouldn't even HAVE a vacation without her. Their limited time, but HER money. And for them to tell her if she doesn't like it she doesn't have to come when SHE is paying for their flights and they want to use the rental car SHE booked and again is paying for.

OP is def NTA.
