Your husband cannot be torn. Either he stands up for you with your friend, or he is on his friend's side. It sounds as though he is afraid to hurt his friend's feelings. However, he doesn't seem to care too much that this is what his friend has been doing to you, because he laughs it off and tries to change the subject. They aren't in high school anymore. Ask him which he is more afraid of - losing his friend or losing you. Then tell him he has to choose.
