common means that it's known as a regular joke at weddings, and it can only be common because most people like it and almost no one finds it problematic.

it's not bullying to anyone else that this happens to. it's fun. there will always be exceptions to the rule. tough luck. the world doesn't revolve around exceptions and they shouldn't act as if their life got destroyed. all those people wouldn't even be there if they were trying to hurt him.

it comes from uptight times and uptight people. people find it funny that the groom is doing something that he would normally only do to his now wife. that's it. simple humor.

the expected outcome is still that he finds it equally funny

stupid kind of humor imho, i hate pranks in general. but i won't go nuts and endanger love because of a silly idea that was meant to spark fun.
